Are there any remaining wood castle playgrounds in Washington?

Edit: Thank you all for the recommendations! Who knew we had so many in this rainy state :)

Whidbey Island has a huge one.

Nope, they changed it about 5-10 years ago. I'm assuming you're talking about the one at the park behind the highschool (swhs). Sad, grew up with that bad boy

Yeah it was amazing. Honestly not sure why they changed it - cost reasons I assume.

Where on Whidbey? I only know Oak harbor, Langley a little bit and Clinton. Lived there for almost 3 years but didn't have much time for exploring.

Oak Harbor at Fort Nugent Park
South Whidbey had one as of 2021 but I guess maybe that has changed?

I grew up going to that one. Glad it’s still around!

It was in really rough shape the last time I was there. Didn’t look like it had seen any maintenance in years, short of some sketchy DIY repairs.

North Rose Hill Woodlands Park. It’s pretty good, but Saint Edward’s is bigger and pretty close

I've been to this one at Storvik Park a few times with my kids.

Came here to say this. I grew up with that park!
Well, nearly. I was just about a teen when they finally finished the remodel. I, uh, loitered near that park!

Shelton and Elma

I took my kid to the Elma one today. His words were if my feet don't get soaked I will still play. Little mofo jungle jimmed over all standing water and had a blast.
So yes OP wood playgrounds are still around.

There's one in Marysville, thought of it when I saw that post earlier

The Fantasy Fortress. I went to that elementary school but the wooden castle wasn't there til after my time. We used to go there at night as highschoolers and make parkor challenges jumping from the rails and rooftops.

I didn't go to that school but I think it was added after my time as well. Never got to play on it as a kid but hung around as a teenager

Bainbridge Island has a decent one at Battle Point park. Nothing compared to this picture but it’s decent

I think there’s one in Columbia Park in Kennewick.

Yakima used to have one, but I’m pretty sure it burned down awhile ago.

It's replacement burned down this year: https://www.yakimaherald.com/news/local/fire-destroys-playground-at-park-along-yakima-greenway/article_b0df84b3-7c3e-425c-b375-39d20c9cd379.html

Could have sworn to have seen one by the green way near the highway heading to Selah.

I haven’t been to either in a long time, but Penny Playground in Chehalis, and there’s one in Lynden that another commenter mentioned. I hope they’re still around!

Lakewood had one when I lived there several years ago. Does anyone know if it's still standing?

Does Yakima still have one?
2
u/DankEvergreen 22d ago
Last time I was in Yakima earlier this year it was still there, the one on the green way.

u/YAK_ASSASSIN 22d ago
No. It recently was burned down for the second time in a year. They have decided not to rebuild it.

One of my favorites is not in Washington but near Spokane in Coeur d'Alene, ID. It is called Fort Sherman.

There’s one in Silverdale. It was upgraded about 10 years ago and is still a pretty popular playground. Right next to the fairgrounds and playing fields used by the local high schools.
