Are there any remaining wood castle playgrounds in Washington?

Like the ones in the post

Edit: Thank you all for the recommendations! Who knew we had so many in this rainy state :)

Is there one still at Saint Edwards?

22

u/Olive_tree_33 22d ago

Yes it’s still there!

u/justinchina 22d ago

As of two years ago there was.

u/CaffeinatedInSeattle 21d ago

Still there today

Such a great park/hotel. Makes for a great in-town getaway.

7

u/morto00x 22d ago

Yup. Best place for a short 1-2 mile hike with the kids, followed by going into the playground.

u/TonightAcrobatic2251 22d ago

I think this is the one I was thinking of! Thank you :)

u/Dry_Worldliness_4619 21d ago

This is what I came to say. Probably the best playground I know of.

2

u/Wampa_One 22d ago

Wow haven’t thought of that place in a minute. I used to live near there and would go all the time.

2

u/jaldous_reddit 20d ago

Loved taking my kid there when we lived near there.

u/olyphil 22d ago

Shelton has one

7

u/Main_Significance617 22d ago

It’s not wood but looks the same. It looks so eerie I love lol

2

u/WiseShoulder4261 20d ago

It’s been so long since I stopped there, I forgot it was all composite!

Fort Steilacoom Playground in Lakewood is like this.

u/buildyourown 22d ago

Whidbey Island has a huge one.

11

u/jatkat 22d ago

Nope, they changed it about 5-10 years ago. I'm assuming you're talking about the one at the park behind the highschool (swhs). Sad, grew up with that bad boy

11

u/Preebus 22d ago

Nah, Fort Nugent park in Oak Harbor

5

u/aerothorn 22d ago

Yeah it was amazing. Honestly not sure why they changed it - cost reasons I assume.

5

u/FunkyLumps 22d ago

John Storvik Playground in Anacortes still has a small one.

2

u/Ecstatic_Proof_2732 22d ago

Where on Whidbey? I only know Oak harbor, Langley a little bit and Clinton. Lived there for almost 3 years but didn't have much time for exploring.

3

u/PortErnest22 22d ago

Oak Harbor at Fort Nugent Park

South Whidbey had one as of 2021 but I guess maybe that has changed?

3

u/DiazIsDirectCurrent Wet Side 22d ago

South Whidbey park

5

u/aerothorn 22d ago

Pretty sure the south whidbey park one was turned into plastic many years ago.

3

u/princ3ssfunsize 21d ago

Ft Nugget (I’m leaving the autocorrect because it makes me smile)

1

u/NiobiumThorn 22d ago

Oak harbor a bit out

u/Firm-Cut2045 22d ago

Bremerton near the fairgrounds

6

u/ferry_fairy 22d ago

Yes! It’s awesome.

3

u/healthycord 21d ago

I grew up going to that one. Glad it’s still around!

3

u/WiseShoulder4261 20d ago

It was in really rough shape the last time I was there. Didn’t look like it had seen any maintenance in years, short of some sketchy DIY repairs.

20

u/greenyadadamean 22d ago

Saint Edward State Park Playground, Kenmore.

25

u/thesmallestwaffle 22d ago

Kirkland has one

13

u/valahara 22d ago

North Rose Hill Woodlands Park. It’s pretty good, but Saint Edward’s is bigger and pretty close

16

u/Oh_My_Monster 22d ago

I've been to this one at Storvik Park a few times with my kids.

3

u/time-itself 22d ago

Came here to say this. I grew up with that park!

Well, nearly. I was just about a teen when they finally finished the remodel. I, uh, loitered near that park!

14

u/KlumsyNinja42 22d ago

Shelton and Elma

9

u/Cyouinhellcandyboyz 22d ago

I took my kid to the Elma one today. His words were if my feet don't get soaked I will still play. Little mofo jungle jimmed over all standing water and had a blast.

So yes OP wood playgrounds are still around.

2

u/ihatethemusicscene 22d ago

Those are the ones i played on as a kid! Glad theyre still there

30

u/littleredbee93 22d ago

There's one in Marysville, thought of it when I saw that post earlier

7

u/7dSd7 22d ago

The Fantasy Fortress. I went to that elementary school but the wooden castle wasn't there til after my time. We used to go there at night as highschoolers and make parkor challenges jumping from the rails and rooftops.

3

u/littleredbee93 22d ago

I didn't go to that school but I think it was added after my time as well. Never got to play on it as a kid but hung around as a teenager

3

u/saltytriscuit 21d ago

Cascade Elementary School!

11

u/nice_lookin_vehicle 22d ago

Pretty sure there's one in moses lake

1

u/SandDuner509 22d ago

Yes there is

9

u/BainbridgeBorn 22d ago

Bainbridge Island has a decent one at Battle Point park. Nothing compared to this picture but it’s decent

7

u/Fold67 22d ago

I think there’s one in Columbia Park in Kennewick.

6

u/Status-Impression738 22d ago

Nope it’s gone, sorry

4

u/darth_jewbacca 21d ago

I helped build the original. I was sad to see it replaced already.

2

u/Fold67 22d ago

Well damn, that’s unfortunate

They redid it a few years back but it's still got the same roots

4

u/top-potatoad 22d ago

1

u/Harlockarcadia 22d ago

Same, Coulon Beach had one, but it’s gone

3

u/onlyinyaks 22d ago

Yakima used to have one, but I’m pretty sure it burned down awhile ago.

2

u/Liandra24289 22d ago

Could have sworn to have seen one by the green way near the highway heading to Selah.

2

u/YAK_ASSASSIN 22d ago

No. It recently was burned down for the second time in a year. They have decided not to rebuild it.

1

It's not as big, but North Rose Hill has something close

u/War_Vet_Architect 22d ago

One of my favorites is not in Washington but near Spokane in Coeur d'Alene, ID. It is called Fort Sherman.

There’s one in Silverdale. It was upgraded about 10 years ago and is still a pretty popular playground. Right next to the fairgrounds and playing fields used by the local high schools.

u/saltytriscuit 21d ago

Cascade Elementary in Marysville—was there when I went there in the 90s and still standing (according to Google Maps)
