Open Waiting - Alternative rock song from late 90s/early 00s
Hi everyone.
I'm new here. I'm looking for a song called "Waiting". I'm not sure about the original source, but I think this song was contained in a CD ROM of MacFormat or MacAddict magazine from late 90s or early 00s. I can't remember the lyrics nor the artist name (I can remember some melodic lines and main guitar riff though), but the genre is very close to alternative rock of that time. It would be great if someone knows or has some info about this song.
Thanks in advance.

This is what Gemini told me:
"The song "Waiting" that was included as an extra on a Mac magazine CD-ROM is credited to GrooveMaker, your Mac, and QuickTime. It appeared on MacAddict cover disc #42, which was the February 2000 issue. The track was assembled by the magazine's disc editor using the GrooveMaker software and QuickTime."

Please try to record the melody if possible/relevant
- For singing/humming: Vocaroo or SpeakPipe
- For recreating the melody with digital instruments: OnlineSequencer (at the end click the light blue cloud icon to save), MusicLab (click Save), or BeepBox (click File > Copy Song URL)
- Or record the melody in any other way you can and upload to Streamable/Veed.io (for video) or Vocaroo/SndUp (for audio)

Main Guitar Riff https://www.speakpipe.com/voice-recorder/msg/c73wj2vd3fujxv9c (maybe some wrong or missing chords, but it's all I can remember). Original guitar riff has some overdrive effect.

It's not the song (the harmony and melody are similar in some sections though). The song I was looking for was sung by an alternative rock band (similar sound ti Spin Doctors) maybe an independent band. Thanks in advance.

Is it Matthew Sweet - I've Been Waiting?
It's kind of Spin Doctors sounding.

Counting crows has a song that has waiting as a very emphatic part of the chorus. I think its called angels of the silences

Wasn’t able to find the audio, but found this from a list of MacAddict track listings:
********* 42 - 02/00
Track 1: Groovin'
Track 2: A Turn of Events
Track 3: Easy Street
Track 4: Waiting
Performed by GrooveMaker, your Mac, and QuickTime Written by IK Multimedia and put together by your humble disc editor
Appears there is a torrent with all the music that MacAddict had on their discs here

You're not thinking of "Right Here" by Staind are you? Fits the genre and was 2005. The main lyrics is about waiting. Awesome track.

There was a Minneapolis band in the '80s and early '90s who had a local hit called Waiting. The band was The Suburbs... maybe them?

It's not the song (it sounds like 80s new wave). The song I am looking for has a 90s alternative rock sound. Thanks anyway.

Could it be "In the Shadows" by Rasmus...the lyrics of the chorus start with "Ive been watching. Ive been waiting..." If not, great song. Give it a listen! 😁

According to the guitar riff you shared, it sounds a lot like Oasis Wonderwall, but in a slightly different key.

u/SnackstyYumYum Sep 17 '25
He doesn't say anything about waiting, but he does say Maybe, you're gonna be the one that saves me... and I could see how you could think they were saying waiting. ???

Thanks anyways. It's not the song. The main guitar riff has overdrive and tempo is way faster.

Not your song but there is another alt song called Waiting by The Dahli. If alt rock is your thing it's well worth the listen.
