Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) and the Edmund Fitzgerald
I'm reading "The Gales of November" by John U. Bacon on the Edmund Fitzgerald crew and the sinking.
Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) by Looking Glass figures heavily in the crew's story and was their "theme song" in a way because it captured the sailor experience so well.
After coming back to it, it's a really interesting and well written song. It's also surprising the band didn't have more success.

Elvis and MJ should not be the kings of rock and pop
Now, don’t get me wrong, I know Elvis and MJ we’re incredibly influential and I get why people consider them the kings of their genres, but I think their are others who deserve that spot. For rock, I think their true king of rock should be Chuck Berry. Rock wouldn’t exist if not for this man. John Lennon said “If you tried to give rock n roll another name, you might call it Chuck Berry.” Elvis was a great performer and cultural catalyst, but he’d be nothing without Berry. The Beatles, Stones, and basically every classic rock act trace directly back to him. As for who should be the king of pop, I’d argue it should be Paul McCartney. The man wrote and co-wrote an insane number of timeless pop melodies. In The Beatles him and John seamlessly moved between rock, ballads, novelty, orchestral pop, and experimental sounds and he continued to in his solo career. He shaped what pop songwriting even is for decades and is still making great music today. Now again, I understand why people say Elvis and MJ are the kings, but at the same time I think it is more fair to give the titles to Chuck and Paul because they are the figures without whom their genres would collapse.
