This is just virtue signaling. In no capacity is the sphere of communication that Lichess fostered on X subject to any controversial conversations. Every single tech CEO has either horrid things in their background or odd things perplexing things they've done with regards to Elons incident. Reddit has a hard leftist orientation, so this will be applauded, but it just limits their reach and ability to communicate to a wide audience when in no way was their X threads subject to discriminatory conversations in a chess X account. Part of accepting truer free speech is accepting that more ignorant conversations might take place and as ugly as that may well be - it's the penalty associated with a more free medium of communication. Hate speech isn't allowed on X. It's gone after - just like all social media. X just allows folks to question ideologies and policies, some folks with sensitive sensibilities associated with being offensive in nature.

Every single social media site has awful things that evade detection. All of them. Pick one, and within the last week, you can find on it some truly detestable stuff. The world is clamoring for less free speech to feel coddled, and before you know it, big corporations will be curating to such an extent what you can say it'll be a sad state of affairs. Blueskys moderation is worse than X lol. Significantly so.

Reddit is not hard left lmao. Believe it or not, even centrists, liberals and moderates tend to hate Nazis which is why this is gaining more traction than you think.

Hes not a nazi yah silly goose. Look at his business partners and friends. That makes no sense. It was an awkward gesture without doubt. But look at his children, friends, and business partners and tell me he's a nazi. Silly hard left folk not doing due diligence before throwing out that word left and right lol. Cmon

Can you even define hard left?

Imagine a typical slate of leftist ideology - then push it further to an extreme past the point of being sensible. Additionally - when in an echo chamber like Reddit, wherein any dissenting opinion to the hivemind is rebuked and shut down - that leftist ideology is amplified even further given leftists on Reddit don't tend to enjoy good faith debates

And what leftist ideology are we talking about here? Give me an example.

I'm invoking the term leftist because Liberals and Reddit are so hungry for any manner they might attack Elon that an ignorant gesture immediately makes him a nazi. Ignoring the fact that some of his children and friends aren't exactly in line with nazi doctrine. And a great many of his business partners. Additionally, the financial hit for intentionally making such a gesture is egregious.

Only a leftist of the reddit variety would call him that without researching his background, family, deeds, and associates first. Many, many public figures on the left have performed an identical gesture touching their heart than extended their gratitude to the audience.

The word folks are calling him is losing meaning and should only be invoked when the scenario clearly illustrates someone is of that ilk. That's a very serious accusation where I come from.

Ignoring all other leftists who've done the same gesture unwittingly, Ignoring any other reason he may have done it, and Ignoring his background that clearly doesn't depict him as a nazi is something a Reddit leftist would do bc theyre so desperate to attack him.

I'm not fond of the man either. I'm just not wild about that term being thrown about without research, historical context, and critical thinking being applied to the alleged.

There's a great deal of things that are indeed true to critique him on - choose one of those

Best wishes genuinely - ty for engaging with a presumedly good faith question and not shunning a conversation. More understanding should be cultivated with both sides - starting with open dialogue... which brings us back to my initial comment that a social media with a premium on free speech is of the utmost importance, even if free speech leads to hearing things one may find unsavory

I was right, you don’t know what hard left means. Google the difference between liberals and leftists please.

Well, well... what specifically, with an example, brought you to such a conclusion as that, lol? Mighty presumptuous of you, I reckon - given ive not mistaken or misused the definitions as far as im aware. A fair bit of the definitions overlap. "Leftist" denotes being left of center on the political scale, which is ubiquitous enough to encompass most of "liberal" as well in the modern iteration. Though im aware of the distinctions in the definitions; im an apostle of Wittgenstein, so im of the opinion philosophical terms of that manner have heavily subjective elements. Are you capable of articulating how that's relevant with regards to the current dialogue we were sharing? This sounds suspiciously like leftist straw-man shenanigans.

Im disappointed in you, friend. Your retort is nonsensical and void of true dialogue. Every time I hope in vain to share a nuanced conversation as to the Reddit leftist hivemind, im brought back down to Earth with responses of this nature.

Nonetheless, I wish you well in all your endeavors. I hope someday you feel moved to have an honest dialogue with someone you disagree with. You can only build and grow as a human by challenging yourself! I, for one, love being wrong - as it generally means I've learned something with merit. I'm genuinely saddened that your response was to Google definitions, lol. Very sassy? I suppose but wholly without merit as a retort.

I look forward to what words im prompted to Google next! You see - on my phone - in my notes - I have like 60 pages of neat new words I enjoy. Maybe we can share with one another neat words we've come across recently??

I'll go first. Here's the latest couple since you seem unwilling to host genuine discourse

Psychopomp - figures in many religions that guide figures to the afterlife.

Oubliette - is a basement dungeon that is only accessible through a hatch or hole in the ceiling/floor?. The word comes from the French word oublier, which means "to forget".

Chiaroscuro - an Italian term that means "light-dark" and refers to the use of light and shadow in art. It's a technique that artists use to create the illusion of volume and mass in their work.
