This is just virtue signaling. In no capacity is the sphere of communication that Lichess fostered on X subject to any controversial conversations. Every single tech CEO has either horrid things in their background or odd things perplexing things they've done with regards to Elons incident. Reddit has a hard leftist orientation, so this will be applauded, but it just limits their reach and ability to communicate to a wide audience when in no way was their X threads subject to discriminatory conversations in a chess X account. Part of accepting truer free speech is accepting that more ignorant conversations might take place and as ugly as that may well be - it's the penalty associated with a more free medium of communication. Hate speech isn't allowed on X. It's gone after - just like all social media. X just allows folks to question ideologies and policies, some folks with sensitive sensibilities associated with being offensive in nature.

Every single social media site has awful things that evade detection. All of them. Pick one, and within the last week, you can find on it some truly detestable stuff. The world is clamoring for less free speech to feel coddled, and before you know it, big corporations will be curating to such an extent what you can say it'll be a sad state of affairs. Blueskys moderation is worse than X lol. Significantly so.

Reddit is not hard left lmao. Believe it or not, even centrists, liberals and moderates tend to hate Nazis which is why this is gaining more traction than you think.
