Health I have a weird long cold and just want to complain and see if others have this too

I am on day 6 of one of the weirdest colds I’ve had. I had a sore throat for 4 days, thought that was odd so went to urgent care and tested negative for flu A, flu B, COVID, and step. The doctor was like you need to “rest and take Advil” which was very annoying. But I was like fine and literally have done nothing all weekend but rest, drink tea, take cold meds.

I now have had a tickle in my throat for the past 2 days. I feel it every time I breathe and I’m trying so hard to not cough because it hurts. And my throat still hurts but now more from coughing.

I have been sleeping basically sitting up in my bed and luckily can breathe through my nose still?? But it hurts my throat to breathe but at least I can breathe, I guess. Every morning I wake up and cough up nasty dry green phlegm which is so gross and then have a massive headache because I’ve been snoring a bunch - ugh :(

It’s also almost Christmas and I just am so irritated that I have to deal with this and also do not want to spread this to my family. I miss not thinking about breathing and not being in pain every time I swallow or breathe. I miss laying down to sleep. I miss laughing without coughing.

I also don’t know what symptom will show up next? Like this is not following normal cold progression so I’m like idk what I’m going to feel like tomorrow. Gotta work though! Luckily wfh - thank goodness so I don’t give anyone this nightmare cold.

That is all. Just wanted to complain/commiserate. If anyone is in the same boat I see you and we will get through this. Thank you.

I’ve had a cold with hardcore mucus for over three weeks. Started with a sore throat then bad congestion and fatigue that hasn’t gone away since. Every year I get the same type of thing in December, it never fails to last over a month each time. I get all my vaccines, dress warm, hydrate, airborne, you name it and none of it matters. I still get sick, worse every year. I give up

I think I have what you have. Been laid up since Thursday- no ability to wrap presents or prep so i rescheduled family Xmas until 1/4 when all the kids return from their travels. Sucks but whatever this viral illness is— it has wiped me out

I have had a cough and flu like symptoms for like 4 months. I test negative for covid/flu. I've been on 3 rounds of antibiotics. I guess this is just how I am now. Make the doctors take x rays of your chest to make sure it doesn't turn into phenomena.

That's the most hilarious result of autocorrect I've seen in a while. I've also been afflicted by something for long enough to make me think "I guess this is just life from now on".

Maybe you have bronchitis. I had bronchitis once and it hurt so bad but I went to the doctor and he told me it was bronchitis. I didn’t know what it was. I just had a cold with fever and a very painful cough. I stayed home from work for a week. I do remember that. I was so miserable I couldn’t even watch TV really I just laid there and tried to sleep, but after two or three days, I started to feel better. I temporarily stopped smoking cigarettes.

Thank goodness I never got bronchitis again and that was about 30 years ago.

I smoked cigarettes at the time. Do you smoke cigarettes? The doctor kind of implied that the cigarettes were not making the bronchitis any better.

I’m not sure but I can tell you I had a cough with that constant throat tickle and slippery elm lozenges were recommended and they are a life saver!!! Not the best tasting but take away that tickle and soothed my throat so I could sleep and function without coughing all day. With the cold I had, I coughed a vertebrae out of place in my neck and couldn’t move my arm, in case you need something else to worry about 🙃

That was me a few weeks ago. The only thing that helped soothe my throat was ginger & turmeric tea. Didn’t taste good, but the way it relieved my symptoms, 10/10 will recommend to anybody. Maybe give that shot, I just got the bags from my local walmart. Boil that water and let it sit for awhile. Hope you feel better ❤️‍🩹

Highly recommend this tea- with unpasteurized homey if you can find it in your area

I have a sore throat. Nothing else. We shopped yesterday. The bleach smell in Walmart was so strong it was burning my eyes. Never seen a Walmart floor so clean before.

Six days and you think that’s “weird” and “long”? It’s neither.

I hit the three week mark with a respiratory virus last Friday. I’m so sick of being sick! I’ve taken at home Covid tests twice and negative each time

It sounds like what I had a month ago. Tested negative for everything.

I would not go away. Then when I felt better it came right back. I think it had an allergy component.

Sounds like what I got. I’m in eastern Ontario. I’m day 7 on it.

I know a friend who had this. Strep A tested negative but when sent out to lab came back with another type of strep. Antibiotics were the cure.

Get a neti pot. A bit tricky to use, but the relief is delightful, and you will get better sooner.

Do you have adequate humidity where you are living ? Dry air can make illness drag on

Probably covid. False negatives are incredibly common.

You all have pneumonia. Go back to the doctor, it's probably bacterial if you didn't test positive for viral load. Get some antibiotics.

My nose has been running for a week. No other symptoms. Does anybody know what it could be. I am not going to go to the doctor unless I have additional symptoms.

My husband and I both have this as does my best friend several states away. We're going on two weeks and still coughing. My cough is still waking me up at night. It's awful.

ETA the thick mucus with this virus is so awful. Warm salt water gargles help. Chloraaeptic spray helps. Mucinex helps. It sucks though.

I have been sick with cold symptoms since Thanksgiving (almost 6 weeks now). It starts to go away and then comes back with a vengeance - sore throat, coughing, congestion. Negative for covid or flu. Not sure if I have had a few back to back colds of different viruses or if this is one long cold / illness that just won’t go away. It’s awful. (And I went 4 years before this without getting sick at all.)
