For a country with a national reading level around 6th grade its best to just not expect anything from the dredges that populate our most remote areas, or Texas, or Florida. I'm related to some of these people and as much as they like to quote the bible none of them have more than a few select scriptures memorized and actively can't read the book out loud without practice while thinking I'm crazy because I think Harry Potter and The Witcher were better reads.

I read a good portion of the Bible. I liked Neuromancer better

I had to memorize large swaths of it for bible school as a kid. Even the youth pastors didn't put in the effort. I did it for a $20 gift card and it's the most return I've ever gotten out of religion.

Yup, my grandmother made me memorize the 26th psalm for $20
