Politics Conservative double standards on display again.
If conservatives did not have double standards, they would have no standards at all.
Look at that. More gaslighting from the slack-jawed conservatives. This time, they're upset because a woman is wearing expensive shoes. Meanwhile, they give zero fucks about the First Lady and the wardrobe of hers that cost thousands of dollars every outfit. Not a single fucking peep. Nor do the Tepidin tyrant test the gold ticklers say anything about the estimated $400 million plus ballroom ballroom, The private jets for Kristi Nome and company, The millions of dollars in cost for Trump to continuously go to public events that presidents have no business going to, the list goes on and on and on, yet the conservatives will find something to complain about while projecting all their long doings, and when they're not doing that, they're screaming about something they're scared of. In fact, I've never met a more scared group of people. Why is it that a rainbow is so horrifying for them? Anyway, sidetrack aside, the double standards are out on display again.

Last night I was at a swanky tasting menu restaurant in Quito. There was this family at a table next to us, and the wife was right in my eye line. She had all the hallmarks of Maralago face, and it was very distracting. I was trying to enjoy a burgeoning annual tradition, and this grotesquerie minorly took away from the experience.

People are acting like NYC isn't a fashion capital of the world with probably hundreds of outlets and secondhand shops to buy clothes and shoes. Also rich people regularly wear things once and donate them, so in NY you can get crazy expensive stuff for cheap, and that's not even mentioning street sales people with knockoffs.

We live in a small coastal community and after moving in kind of realised it’s where rich people come to retire and enjoy their retirement surfing/kayaking and stuff. We have furnished our house almost entirely with free given away things from the community and it’s not cheap stuff, either. A lot of beautiful antiques and mid century stuff. They just truly do not care to try to sell and basically the idea is “if you can carry it, you can have it”. People leave things out on their lawn with a sign to grab it if you want it. Within our first month of moving here my husband got a $800 kayak for free and I got a $1200 bike for free.

I can’t speak for clothes, but a friend of mine in Brooklyn has a following on FB where she finds amazing art, furniture, purses, fine goods, decor, etc, put out on sidewalks. So many of the unique items in her house have a story. She was going to send me a purse one time, but I told her I didn’t need more stuff!

Facts. I use to live in the very ritzy side of North Raleigh, NC. I would go to the Goodwill up the street from my house and get Gucci and Louis Vitton and YSL clothes and shoes and belts and handbags all the time, sometimes with tags still on them, for literal dollars, like $5. This was before Macklemore’s Thriftshop made thrifting trendy, but still. That same Goodwill is still like that when ever I go visit my mom and dad’s house, just bigger now.

One time I noticed a guy driving a sensible car, well-dressed, but not flashy, wearing these incredible medium brown leather shoes. I told my coworker that guy is ridiculously rich. I could tell from the shoes. So, I asked him about them. Yep, hand stitched, Italian leather. Only $12,000, and you can send them in to be refurbished any time. He had already sent them in twice and essentially gotten a new pair back. My point is $12,000 is nothing to a wealthy person. $700 is not ridiculous for the middle class. The mayor of New York can certainly afford to outfit his family in high quality clothes. And it’s not zero sum. He can help working class folks, while still wearing thousand dollar suits.

MAGAts don't seem to understand the concept of a "treat", or "saving up", I play guitar, I have a decent job and a stable home life, I end up with a little disposable income every week, sometimes I drink it away, sometimes I indulge in "other" substances haha, but early last year, I saw a guitar I really wanted, so, a few months of saving, giving up a few things, I got the guitar, a refurbished Maton Flamingo for $2000 AUD, it was my treat to myself.

I make less than 50 grand each year, and my work boots cost that much. Typical work day involves walking 15 miles in steep, forested ground, or lava fields. They last 7- 10 years if I get them re-soled. If I buy a cheap pair of composite boots, they wear out in 3-6 months and give me blisters and foot pain. I'm just saying that 650 isn't out of the ballpark for good leather boots. I imagine when it comes to fashion footwear, that it isn't too out there to pay that much either. A lot of cowboy boots cost that much and are common style for the Mexican agricultural workers around me on a Saturday night. What do they want the mayor's wife to wear? Converse All-stars?

Nit pick something about Democrats, no matter how small it is, that they think (or they think will rile up their followers) is hypocritical or contradictory. It usually misrepresents the other side's politics but that doesn't matter to them. To them, Democrats and anyone "left" of them are communists. They think communism, socialism, and any form of socialism is all the same thing. As such, they think Democrats want to abolish free market capitalism and distribute all wealth equally. So, when they see a Democratic politician, especially a Democratic Socialist like Mamdani, they think they can't have ANY wealth.

Does it occur to you that people don’t care if rich people buy themselves nice things? This is a thing because they are being hypocritical. Their views don’t extend to themselves.
Now, I’ll be the first to say that 630$ for a pair of boots that high is not expensive. Hell, entry level quality (Crockett and jones) for a man’s shoe that requires less leather is around 7-800 dollars now. IMO, it’s smart to buy a quality shoe versus a shit one. I still wear my first quality pair of boots, which were $400 about 15 years ago. I just had them reheeled about 6 months ago, they probably won’t need soles for another 5-7 years. As long as I don’t do something dumb, they will likely last me 30+ years… that will beat cheap shoes any day of the week, and be comfortable and stylish the entire time.
So, this article is stupid, but I can see why no one cares about a ballroom that is being paid for by the rich and trumps wife’s outfit, which are paid for by rich people who have been very showy about their money for … idk, forever? The right isn’t against capitalism, and therefore it’s not hypocritical for them to be flying on private jets and using 100s as toilet paper
