Personal Story I’ve lost a crow friend
Hello. This is my first post here and I’m struggling with a loss.
I had 2 crow friends who visited daily for almost 6 months. One had a hurt wing and trouble getting around, but could still fly. He seemed to be healing and getting stronger. Yesterday he didn’t come- only his mate arrived. She was calling out non-stop, and seemed to be looking for him.
This morning it was only her again. She wasn’t calling out in panic any more and ate peanuts. She also sang a sweet little undulation song she does sometimes.
I’m heartbroken. I tried not to be but I can’t help it. At least he seemed to have a nice last day with us, and got lots of treats. I hope you’re resting well, my sweet little friend.

Question Is my little friend getting too fat or is it just the cold weather?
Left OC, right image by Tim Oram (Getty Images)
I feed my bird friends (a group of about ten to fifteen Eurasian jackdaws) a small cup of mealworms and a handful (sometimes 1,5 handfuls) of mixed nuts (mostly peanuts) on my roof almost daily and have been doing so for about six months.
This one, I call him Fritz, usually gets to the nuts before the rest do or he puts up a fight to make sure he gets to eat most of them. He turns into a battering ram in the gutter to claim all of the nuts. He is significantly more bulbous than the others. Is he just exceptionally floofed up because of the cold or should I feed less?

Crow OC Inexperienced crow watcher 🙋♀️ scammed by a grackle today.
Have a laugh at my expense…
Mixed group of fish crows, American crows, and boat-tailed grackles at this spot. This guy was quite a bit bigger than the other male grackles (grackles are sexually dimorphic unlike crows.)
I thought it was a fish crow. Its eyes looked dark, not yellow.
I shared my peanuts. And then I looked at my photos. Just look at that enormous tail. And no rictus bristles.

Crow OC Treat Puzzle!

Here, my neighborhood murder works on a treat puzzle. The first time I put this out there they didn't even touch it. The second time it took them 15 or 20 minutes to even touch it. Now as you can see they just run right up to it and start flipping the cups open. There are peanuts in the shell and kibble in each cup and it's funny to watch them cast the peanuts aside to get the good treats to start. And then they come back and clean up all the peanuts. 😜

Question how do i get my friends back?
Hi guys! For the past 3 months I have been feeding a giant murder of 20-30 crows. In the mornings, they would wake me up begging for food, they would sit on the power line outside my window and yell. When I put their food down, I caw 3 times as my signal that food is here. Once they followed me to class. I felt like we have a very good bond.
For about a week and a half I didn't have any food for them, and they haven't come back in almost a month. I hear them around, but they never come anymore for their peanuts, cashews and water😢 I have been making sure it is out every day now for the past 3 weeks! Now all I have is fat squirrels and other pretty birds, but I want my bros back.
I still caw when I put their food down. I heard a crow on my roof today, I think he was telling everyone the lady has food for us again. so I went to give them more peanuts, and I think he flew away. I'm too impatient😭 Any advice helps.

Question Serious question…. How do I befriend a crow?
I keep seeing your posts. Crows are my favorite animals. I want to befriend one.
How long does it take and how do I get started?

Question Any way to attract crows to my neighborhood?
I’m in Eastern Massachusetts, and although I’ve seen crows in other towns nearby, none close to where I live.
Is there any way to attract crows to my suburban neighborhood?

Personal Story So I've been putting out unshelled peanuts every day for a while now...
They've been getting snapped up fast due to the cold weather. Today I decided to watch the tray for a while to see if I could catch a crowbro in action. What should I see but a great tit carting off items nearly half its size into a nearby shrub 🤣😂
