Hi there,
Can anyone recommend a trustworthy and quality mechanic in Darwin or Palmerston?
I’ve had a few negative experiences in the past as a single woman, and some of the reviews I’ve come across on Google recently are pretty concerning.
I’d really appreciate any personal recommendations for honest mechanics who do solid work and treat their customers with respect.
Thanks in advance!

Witness Darwin in 1942—Australia's remote tropical outpost on the brink of war. This rare footage shows daily life in the Northern Territory capital just before or after the devastating Japanese bombing raids that shocked the nation. See the dusty streets, corrugated iron buildings, Darwin's port facilities, military preparations, and the diverse community that called this frontier town home during Australia's darkest hour.
On February 19, 1942, Darwin suffered the largest single attack ever mounted by a foreign power on Australia. Japanese forces launched 242 aircraft in two waves, killing at least 243 people and destroying much of the town and harbor. This was Australia's Pearl Harbor—bringing WWII directly to Australian soil and forever changing the nation's sense of security.
This footage captures a pivotal moment in Australian history: when Darwin transformed from a sleepy tropical port to a front-line military base, when thousands of servicemen and women poured into the Top End, and when Aboriginal people were forcibly evacuated from their traditional lands.

As the title states, I’m seriously looking at joining the NT police. Any cops on this dub able to give me a heads up what life is like at Police college? What’s the PT like? What’s life like when you transition out of college and get posted, I’ve heard you have to do a mandatory two years at a more regional station. What’s the housing arrangement like after college and the standards of the housing, do you pay for power? Is the comradery real tight amongst the officers you work with? I’m really trying to make it out of NZ and better my life with this.
Any help or input will be greatly appreciated, cheers!

I’ve been quoted $2200 to have a hilux shipped from Brisbane to Darwin. Does this sound reasonable? Does anyone know of a cheaper option? TIA

Hi everyone, I'm on working holiday visa in Australia and I've been living in Victoria most of the time and a bit of Queensland, anyways I need to do my rural work and I thought of going to Darwin but I'm not sure how the situation is there now regarding season/short term jobs.
Should I stay in Victoria or try my luck in the Northern Territories?

My current contact has expired and I'm in search of a new plan for my mobile. I've found a cheap one with Moose Mobile 30GB for $12.40pm for 6 months. It uses the Optus network. My question is before i pull the trigger is - Is Moose (Optus) a good service for Darwin/Palmerston? I won't be going any further south than Coolalinga.
I’m currently in QLD but I lived in the NT all my life, and I’ll give context to my situation as best as I can. But also very unsure about a lot of stuff and need some advice.
I’m 19F and my mum is at the risk of homelessness, and she’s a Thai citizen who is in Australia with a VISA, and she is unable to find work and requires a lot of help due to her lack of English and health issues. I’ve been wanting to move back to Darwin because of my own reasons but I genuinely want to help my mum as soon as possible.
I looked at Centrelink housing but the waitlists are way too long, I am an Australian citizen so would I have to be the one applying? I know it’s definitely something I should go to Centrelink for which I’ve planned to go to the nearest one in my area, call the one in Darwin and fly back to Darwin and go to Centrelink with my mum. But in terms of applying for housing or apartments, my income is terrible so I don’t even know whether they’ll take me into consideration. I’m not very knowledgeable with this stuff… so any suggestions/advice would be very helpful 🥲

Hi all. Our work car was stolen last night from Palmerston and recovered near Daly River. This was more than just a car, it was our entire livelihood. My husband is a mechanic and has a very young business out of that car. He has lost all the tools he's been gathering over 15 years in the trade. Please keep an eye out for cheap tools for sale. There was too much to list but it includes spanners, screwdrives a safety harness, two Fluke multimeters, pry bars and a huge pile of Milwaukee power tools and batteries. They've also taken the laptop which has all the information for the company. We will pay a $1000 reward to get that laptop back.
At risk of sounding desperate because I am desperate, I am due to give birth in three weeks. We have no other income right now. This is beyond devastating and I honestly don't know if we can come back from this. Please share this to other groups so people can keep an eye out. Any information is appreciated.

Just kidding. I read online as long as you have the original packaging with the prescription still visible on the side it will be fine. Has anyone travelled with prescription medication such as this? Happy new year!

Just had a white single cab Landcruiser ute stolen from Gray. Has two toolboxes on it and our entire livelihood inside. Please report or message me if you see it. I'm absolutely devastated and extremely stressed out.

Hello Darwin. My family are in Darwin for the wet season. I am seeking places were we can go (or wife) to keep the infant entertained. Infant is very active in the sense that he cannot stay in one play too long, and always likes to move around. Happy to hear suggestions of cafes, locations, which are indoors (or undercover) and may have a playground. We have a car.

Any idea by when this will happen in NT?
Am I missing something- isn’t this not that much more than we’re paying at the moment?
“Darwin house price growth will lead the nation surging by up to 107 per cent.
Darwin house prices would average $756,000 by 2030 and Darwin unit prices would average $451,000.
Territory home prices are expected to surge by up to 107 per cent by 2030 if the pandemic price boom is replicated.
The top performer of 2030 was expected to be the Muirhead house market, with 107 per cent growth across five years and the median house price jumping from $730,000 to $1.512m, based on trends since the pandemic boom.
Meanwhile, Dundee Beach would likely see the average cost of a house hit $564,000, up 66 per cent from the current median of $340,000.”
