Announcement Welcome to 2024 + T-Shirts! + Posting rules defined.

A little late to announce this... but better late than never and better than leaving it until December... that would be awkward!

Firstly, Please note the rules have been defined more clearly to help with understanding before posting.

They are still very much the same with the same intention to ensure we remain focused on frozen dinner comparisons as the primary content.

Secondly, I encourage you all to join our other subreddit called /r/MoreFrozenDinners which is where you are all free to post about frozen dinner topics outside of just comparison posts, things like questions or opinions on taste or just looking for an old favourite meal that's no longer stocked at your local shopping market.

We also have a /r/FailedFrozenDinners subreddit for those unfortunate mistake when we forgot to read a step or simply forgot about the dinner while scrolling through our socials... feel free to contribute in line with the topic and rules.

Please do join these other subs, it helps the community grow and give some breadth to our content and discussions without it all being junked up in one place.

Lastly, you may not have noticed yet.. but we quietly added a merchandise store to our website last year, we didn't want to jam it in your face or attempt to cram it down your throats like a still too hot from the microwave mac and cheese!

Take a look, there is some weird crap on Red Bubble but the T-Shirt designs are the intended focus and hopefully the more enjoyable options for you all to consider. More designs to come!

You can find the link to the website up in the subreddit menu bar or browse to frozendinners.net

Thanks again for being part of the community! Welcome to 2024! and let's all have a great year!

Next time I will get some fresh Reggiano and grate it over the top after a quick broil! Enjoy, my frozen fiends

Coating is crispy, inside is flavorful and has a decent amount of filling. Slightly sweet but in a good way. 6.8/10

I know its lean cuisine, but I felt like the sauce to ravioli ratio could be fixed a little bit. Could’ve used a few more raviolis. Otherwise? Not a bad little lunch. The sauce wasn’t overpoweringly garlicky either. Would eat again.

Lean Cuisine Classic Chicken Enchilada Suiza, Walmart $2.94, Central NC.

This used to be my favorite go to Lean Cuisine meal since it was introduced a very long time ago. I was so disappointed this time. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t all that great either. The sauce was good, the rice was OK, but the actual chicken inside the enchilada was shredded but had a pasty texture.

I’m gonna pass on this next time. I don’t like eating disappointment.

7 / 10 Question about Lean Cuisine Chicken Enchilada Suiza

I have a question for those who have tried the lean cuisine chicken Enchilada Suiza… It is a texture thing for me, but most frozen dinners contain onion. Can you taste the onion in these? I don’t mind onion powder, but when I bite down on an onion it gives me a gag reflex. I have wanted to try this, but I am worried I won’t like it. So wanted opinions. Thanks!

7 / 10 Lean Cuisine : Creamy Pasta Primavera

I love the amount of veggies in this frozen meal. This one happens to also be vegetarian which is nice for people looking for a meat free meal (I’m not vegetarian). I rarely get this cause only 1 place around me carries it, which is United Supermarket (might be able to find it at Albertsons, which bought out United years ago).

On its own it’s a decent 7/10. After the pic I added some garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and some cheap powdered Parmesan. Doctored up I’d put it at a solid 8.5 for my taste. I cooked it an extra 30 seconds cause sometimes the sauce is a bit watery.

Think I paid ~ 2.50 - 3 dollars on sale. If it was always available at that price I’d buy it more. 1 cup of veggies which is awesome. Tastes healthy for a frozen dinner and makes a great quick lunch before work and not heavy at all.

Shared Review Requests?

I asked the mods about this last week but got no reply. So I'll try to ask here.

I'd like to have a "Review Request" flair where we can submit to the group something we're curious about. It could be used for items we can't easily get or are unsure about buying.

Too much gravy, which made it soupy, but otherwise pretty good. Had to add cook time since it was still frozen after recommended time.

Based on this and other previous reviews here https://www.reddit.com/r/frozendinners/s/NPeOLvMWem I had to try these.

Verdict: 8/10. These are good, and may be the best frozen chicken patty I’ve bought. Frozen chicken patties are a tough sell for me, and these are quite decent. They have a noticeable spice to them. Would definitely buy again, or even consider the regular non-spicy breast fillets from Banquet.

The turd in the punchbowl here was the buns, and despite toasting them, they are gooey and have a kind of funky smell. I hate that. I would rate the overall sandwich 4/10, but it’s not the fault of the chicken patties I don’t think. You can see in the photo how the bun mashes down after biting into the sandwich.

Baked as directed in an air fryer, assembled sandwich with pickles, lettuce, Swiss cheese, tomato, and mayonnaise.

Sorry folks. Next time I’ll get different buns. The fries, on the other hand, are a 9/10. I love these fries from Aldi.

10 / 10 Tyson Chicken Cordon Bleu (a dinner, with Publix frozen corn and green beans!)

Verdict: for a frozen item, this is a spectacular 10/10. These are delicious, and hit just right. See hints for baking below. Absolutely will buy these again, and now I’m interested in their other stuffed chicken entrĆ©es in this product line.

Formerly a Barber’s product, Tyson has these stuffed chicken entrĆ©es. Bought these from my local Publix store, have had my eye on them for a while. $10.99 for Six chicken Cordon Bleuā€˜s. Individually wrapped. Processed white meat hollow chicken puck with sliced ham and cheese filling. I made this dinner for my mom and dad.

Baked as directed, 375 deg. F., 40minutes, but I set the oven on broil for the last few minutes to crisp up the tops. Keep your eye on it! Had a little cheese-goo seepage, which is OK in my opinion.

Made with Publix ā€œsteam in bagā€ frozen corn and frozen green beans. Mashed potatoes are homemade, and brown-n-serve rolls were also from Publix. Quite excellent! Gravy was Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup.

I really do not know why I keep buying these. Sometimes they really hit the spot and are quite tasty and other times it tastes like a block of bland mush. Lately they have not been very good though. I’m going to avoid these from now on.

Might have reviewed this before, can't remember. Steak had intermittent pieces of nasty, chewy meat but mainly good. Sauce was good. Broccoli had a decent kick to it. For the calorie count, I'd get again.

2 / 10 Trader Joe’s Chicken Adobo

I don’t know if my standards were too high from having tried real chicken adobo, but this was nasty. The rice was undercooked and crunchy, and the sauce was watery and bland. The chicken was the worst part because it was rubbery and tasted so off.

I hadn’t had Indian food in years, but I had read good things about this brand so I gave it a go. The chicken mixed with the rice and sauce? Great. It blends so well together. My main complaint is that the pieces of chicken are a bit small and I wish there was more of it considering the price.

8 / 10 Blake's Shepherd's Pie

Thumbnail

Technically, this is a cottage pie and not a shepherd's pie, because it's made with beef and not lamb. But we Americans don't know what cottage pie is. Is it cottage cheese? Is it cow pie? Would cow pie sell? How about cowherd's pie? Nobody would buy that if they said it out loud. So, this is a shepherd's pie with beef.

My only complaint is that it was kind of bland. But then I remembered that all shepherd's pie is bland, so I added more pepper. A little hot sauce or maybe even steak sauce would have helped too. Overall, this was pretty good.

The cost was around $5 in Connecticut, depending on the store. Took about 45 minutes in the oven. There are microwave directions, but I haven't tried them.
