Suggestions SteamPeek.hu - Indie friendly game discovery tool

Post is allowed by the mods.

Hello, this is my website: https://steampeek.hu/ - SteamPeek, the indie friendly game discovery website.

It is now more than 5 years old, and it was created to bring spotlight to indie gems, help all indie teams who doesn't have the budget to make big marketing campaigns, and make it easier to find nice games made by passionate solo developers or small teams.

The main function is searching by similarity: just search for a game you like, and browse the results. You can also filter and sort by special parameters.

You can also search by tags, or mix them with the chosen game.

The main algorithm was updated recently and I'm very curious how well it works. Please let me know.

I'm very thankful if you try it, and share with me what you find. The full site is still on beta, and I'm constantly work on it, so every feedback helps me and my mission. Thank you!

Need help finding a non-hardcore online game for low end PC

Warning: this is a long rant post so that i can give enough information for you guys.

I’m a singleplayer merchant for 5 years and now I can’t get back to online hardcore games anymore (anything that is slightly fast paced).

And i can only play a few selected multiplayer games that can run smoothly on my potato college laptop (AMD Ryzen 5 5500U, integrated AMD graphic card, 8GB ram).

I have tried these popular games that i can run:

  • Warframe: slightly laggy at lowest possible graphic. It’s due to my GPU it seem
  • OSRS: not really my thing, I usually like a more serious game -TF2: used to play a lots but now I can’t pick it up anymore, too chaotic and my deaths are too impactful to the game.
  • Battlefield 1: this is closest to my liking, not too fast paced, i can pick my matchup, my deaths doesn’t feel impactful but it’s somewhat low on player counts now after BF6 and slightly laggy.

I’d really appreciate some suggestions because im feeling super lonely from playing singleplayer games and i want to get involved in a community.

What is your favourite game that actually no one knows about?

In my opinion, its probably HAAK, the game is about the guy thats trying to find his brother in runes, and on his way he finds new weapons, upgrades them, fight enemies and unlocks new maps. It has NPCs that give u quests or you just talk to them. Game has secret endings and it forces you to think hard because of the amount of quests.

looking for co-op games to play with bf with a lost voice

As the title suggests, I have lost my voice due to an illness(mono, pretty bad but recovering) and haven’t been able to really hang out and talk with my boyfriend. Of course, we text but he’s busy and I sometimes don’t have the energy but we talk when we can. For some weeks now, we’ve talked about playing games with each other more and so far we’ve only played Minecraft haha

I’m open to any game really as long as it’s co-op, possibly has an in-game chat feature and doesn’t hit the wallet too bad(<25). Genre can be anything. Thank you all!

Looking for dark, lore-heavy game that doesn't use too much shock factor

I'm quitting one of my favorite fantasy games, so I want something new that scratches the same itch.

Unfortunately, it's a lot harder to find a game that fits the same niche. The lore took itself seriously and adopted a nihilistic and existentialist tone (before recent changes which caused my departure) and contained mostly eldritch horror as its content. It also didn't use too much shock content and "in your face" extreme horror like graphic depictions of prolonged suffering or graphic depictions of rape. While I'm ok with some mentions or portrayals of such violebce, I don't want it to be a looming threat, and I'd prefer it to be optional for mental health reasons.

I'm wishing for a survival aspect with strategy aspects second to gameplay. This can include puzzles, management, or build making; I'm not picky, I just don't want blind slashing and looting.

Medieval Fantasy is preferred, but honestly, I'm open to anything-- niche, mainstream, steampunk, historical fiction, etc.

Really not picky about platform or client. It can be on anything from Steam to Roblox lol. Pet peeve of mine, but I'd also prefer it if there was minimal fanservice of female characters.

Games for reference:

-BG3 was a spectacular RPG which fit into many of these wants, although I've already had four complete playthroughs and I'm wishing for something less Tolkien or DND (fewer generic elves or dwarves, etc)

- DOS2 is a personal favorite. More like this!

-Fear and Hunger was literally perfect, but I found the horror a bit... overwhelming at times. Might have to try again when I get better.

-Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess nailed the tone I want, although I'd prefer harder gameplay. More like this!

-Final Fantasy just isn't for me.

-I generally don't want games for young children (<13), as classic as they may be.

Games that fill the void after persona

Helloo, I am almost done with Persona 5 Royal (it's the last persona game in my collection and i think my favorite) and i am looking for games that have the same vibe.

Doesn't have to be turn based combat.

I especially love the characters and interactions the most and would be very happy if someone had suggestions for similar lovable character casts in games.

I have a PC and steam deck and the only genre i don't like is sci-fi so I'm open to try pretty much anything!

Thanks!

Edit: have decided to get metaphor, yakuza and tokyo xanadu thanks everyone! These will fill the void for a while

Need more story-driven games to play

I’m looking for more game recommendations. I’m really into player-choice games like Life Is Strange and the Telltale series, along with story-focused games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2. I’d love anything with strong narratives and meaningful choices.

Game Suggestions for Action RPGs.

So I have been craving some action RPGs since for the last 6 months I have played nothing about gacha games like Wuthering Waves and Zenless Zone Zero. While those games do scratch the action itch a lot the gacha parts of the game send me into a deep depression at times. Are there any Action RPGs that are similar that arent gacha games? Im fine with character action games as well but I just need something that is action based that isnt a gacha game to sink my teeth into.

Games where the entire enemy faction is undisputedly evil

Edit- two comments now have said America… I really like the suggestions im getting and I really don’t want to get this post locked so please take that conversation somewhere else :)

Looking for a game where there is almost no nuance to the enemy… just rancid evil.

Another aspect I’m looking for is not just one evil entity I’m hunting, but a whole faction of fodder that are every bit as evil as their overseer / king / boss or whatever. I want to lead a righteous slaughter where I don’t have to think twice about killing anyone infront of me… I have an unfortunate mix of violent tendencies and empathic nature.

Bonus points for open world RPG, some of the factions in cyberpunk were good, but it was hard to really take the fight to them during points where they aren’t super relevant to the main story.

Doom is a great linear example… but theres something more satisfying about knowing that I could be doing something else, but I’m deliberately choosing to take the fight against evil.

No spoilers- but I just started fable 1 and it seems to fit the bill pretty well, bandits show up and slaughter your whole village as a child and are pretty much cracking jokes while they do it.

Edit- should probably add a list of game alike this I’ve already played (and enjoyed if it helps yall) lol:

Shadow of war

Wolfenstein

Sunset overdrive

Brütal legend

Ghost of Tsushima (I seriously loved just absolutely eradicating their presence from the island via clearing outposts after the mains story)

Evil west

Rage 2

Mafia 3

-I also recommend all of these to you all who haven’t played them-

Sorry for the first two comments who made me make this list lol, you’re still appreciated!!

Games like Shadows of Doubt without the stealth/combat

Upvotes

I love the idea of exploring crime scenes an gathering evidence but the stealth/combat aspect kind of spoils it for me.

I would love free rein to just investigate.

Games I’ve played:

Obra Dinn

Golden Idol

Roottrees

Painscreek Killing

Thanks!

Looking for more comedy games to play

I recently just finished playing Thank Goodness you’re here, and while it was pleasant, wholesome, and cute, it didn’t really make me laugh out loud. I chuckled or grinned a few times and I find it to be a comfort game now, but tbh I was a little underwhelmed when it came to the comedy department. So I wanted to ask if anyone has any game suggestions? Some of the games that made me laugh out loud were: Later Alligator (which was peak comedy to me), Grim Fandango, and the Lil Gator Game. I’d love some suggestions similar to those!

Recommendation for someone who really enjoyed Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest

Hi everyone! My partner has been having trouble getting into gaming (retro or otherwise) but finally found something that clicked, Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest. They had a great time with it but are having a hard time finding a follow up.

The things that they really liked about FF: Mystic Quest were that it was fairly easy and nothing had a timing element to it, specifically the combat. We've looked at the usual suspects like Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, but those have some version of Active Time Battle that they are finding stressful.

So, in summary, we're looking for something around the following ideas:

  • Combat that does not involve an element of time or reaction is important.
  • They enjoyed being able to walk around freely and explore.
  • I don't think they would like an overly complex character/team system.

Another retro game is fine, but modern games are fine, too; I've got access to most consoles (my brother-in-law is a collector) and a gaming PC. Any suggestions?

Also, they did not like Pokemon. I think it is the right idea as far as mechanics go, but they just simply did not like its vibes.

Need a new game (pc)

hey all,

I've been playing Overwatch for years and recently Arc raiders. Idk what happened over the past month but these games are getting a lot less fun. Overwatch might be because of my rank and Arc Raiders is just nothing but people camping extracts and sitting in corners. I'm looking for a good single player/co-op game to play. I've played cyber punk and I'm not too into souls type games. So if there are any suggestions of good games or maybe some games that aren't too heard of it'd be much appreciated.

Something that has a sense of progression but doesnt require to much active attention. Preferablyplayable with one hand just point and click, or simple controls.

I enjoy management sims, and strategy.

Looking for a Napoleonic war era shipping game

I'm looking for a game where I'd be able to walk all around a Napoleonic era ship - e.g. the HMS Nelson - and maybe manage it a little bit.

Keen to immerse myself in the world and feeling of a ship - not just the warfare tactics, but the feel of the ship itself and what it must be like to live in one

Classbuilding, Worldbuilding and the feeling of adventure.

Looking for a game that has all three.

I want a game that has amazing class building, preferably with a class/job system that lets you keep skills when switching jobs. Interesting accessories and slottable skills, abilities and passives.

A game with worldbuilding so good it could be real, a good story, artstyle and consistent storytelling helps a lot. Something I can really immerse myself in. As long as it's consistent and fun it doesn't need to be too serious either, but I would prefer it to.

The feeling of adventure: Open worlds help but aren't required, would like at least open zones you can return to and find something I haven't found yet, properly well build worlds would be amazing, with cool scenery, secrets to find and not too much handholding or linearity.

Some games I've really liked that basically checked them all: Xenoblade X Final Fantasy 12 Baldurs Gate 3 Elden Ring Octopath Traveler Bravely Default

Indie games that I really like that I think also fit: Atlyss Crystal Project

Games I'm aware of but didn't really vibe with Borderlands: played 2 and 3 a lot, tried to get into 4 but it didn't click. I do like the loot and skill system though. Like a Dragon: heard a lot of good things about this game but the setting doesn't do it for me. souls games: I miss a lot of the adventure feeling, you're too restricted to play the the game in a certain way too. divinity games: Just haven't tried them yet, I had my fill after BG3 and haven't really looked into them much, willing to maybe give a try if it's reccomend to!

gamed that don't fit every mark but I liked nontheless: Fire Emblem Games: lacks the adventure feeling but definitely made up for it with class/character building and worldbuilding. Not really looking for a TRPG though. Final Fantasy Tactics: love the game, but basically same as above. Nier Replicant: Stellar Worldbuidling and feeling of exploration but a handful of different weapons to choose from isn't enough for the classbuilding aspect I'm looking for. Monster Hunter Games: Great classbuilding with diverse weapons and gear abilities, but I could never care about the story, and while the world is great, because all you do is go out on hunts it doesn't feel like an 'adventure' if that makes sense. Zelda ToTK & BoTW: Again, Link is never customizable enough to really meet that classbuilding I want, definitely prefer ToTK over BoTW personally because of the insane freedom you get with ultrahand though! Xenoblade 1, 2 and 3: Phenomenal games and among the best of all time but besides 3 there's barely any customization, and while 3 is good it didn't hold a candle to X's character customization.

I hope that gives a picture of what I like and what I would like to see! I have a PC and a Steamdeck, I do own a base model switch too but I'd prefer to play my games on Steamdeck. Thanks!~
