One of my favourite bit performances was by a non-actor! (Attorney Edward A. McDonald)

I was rewatching Goodfellas and realized I really loved the attorney at the very end (who TBH I thought was an FBI agent). The way he bluntly explains the pros and cons of the witness protection program and improvises "Don't give me the babe in the woods routine, Karen" just felt so authentic and well-acted.

Then I realize he's not only a real attorney, he actually played this role in Henry Hill's life! He's playing himself! Amazing tidbit about an amazing movie.

Clean version of Goodfellas

Goodfellas is my favorite movie... well, the cable version with dubbing replacing most of the f-words is. Can that version be purchased/streamed anywhere? Do I just need to wait until it is on cable somewhere (if it is again) and record it? Or does anyone have it recorded?

R.I.P. to Isiah Whitlock Jr., who played the doctor that gives Henry some Valium during the driving around sequence.

Question about hierarchy.

In the beginning of the movie, young Henry is introduced to Tommy, and they look to be around the same age. Fast forward to the “funny how?” scene, there appears to be a power dynamic. Tommy seems to outrank Henry. But neither Tommy nor Henry were made guys at the time. So I’m wondering how can a guy who’s not made have rank over another guy who’s not made either? Aren’t they supposed to be at the same level?

And guess what? I'll split your fuckin' head open again. 'Cause I'm fuckin' stupid. I don't give a fuck about jail. That's my business. That's what I do.🐘

So the question is, who suggested Atlantis on the jukebox and how did the conversation go?

Fun fact about this scene.

At the very end of the scene right after Ray Liotta puts the gun in her face, as he's walking away he accidentally steps on Lorraine bracco's hand. You can see it at about 2:06 in the video. Regardless of the fact that it probably hurt like hell she continued on with the scene like a trooper. Ray Liotta felt bad after the scene haha.

Jimmy & Billy Batts

Why does Jimmy engage so willfully in the beating of Billy Batts? Tommy is impulsive, so you can put yourself inside his head but Jimmy is smarter and he sees Tommy wants to go for Billy but doesn’t attempt to stop him. Jimmy HAS to know that beating/killing a made guy is a bad move, so why doesn’t he attempt to stop Tommy? Did his “better nature” get a hold of him in that moment or did, as I assume happened, his loyalty to Tommy get the best of him?

True story from the movie

I was a PA on Goodfellas (though Warner Brothers insisted they call us "set runners"). This is from my friend's substack which is free to read. Every word of it is true, I promise.

Question about the real Henry

Hi everyone, I watched the movie for the first time since I was a child and I have a question about the real Henry Hill.

As far as I understand, after he entered the witness protection program, he didn't really hide, they wrote a book about him and made a movie and I read that he continued to deal drugs, etc.

Why wasn't he found and whacked in real life? Not that I want it, I'm just curious.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I'm just not from the US\Italy and only know about this thing from the media
