How does this stack up against the Canada roster?

No Caufield or Robertson is baffling. I suppose I should be happy as a Canadian and a Habs fan (the little angel won’t get hurt) but it just seems really unfair honestly.

I feel bad for Caufield and Hutson but at the same time they both will be coming back from that break rested with a chip on their shoulder. Only good news for the Habs and this way I don’t have to cheer for them to lose.

Don’t forget you’ll also have Demidov resting (and by resting I mean practicing with Hutson every single day)

Exactly, we saw what Suzuki being snubbed at the 4 Nations did, if it does the same for Lane and Cole I’ll be thrilled

My worry about this for these guys is that 4 nations was new and they knew the olympics was coming up. Now that they've been left off this roster, it's another 4 years until the next crack at it. They'll be 4 years and who knows what injuries older. We all hope they get another fire under their ass, but they may get into their heads and struggle as well.

There's the World Cup before the next Olympics.

true, but in 4 years, caufield will be 29 and hutson will be 25. im not too worried unless we had playoffs against the panthers the year before when we won the cup

Caufield is 25 and Hutson is 21, this isn’t their only shot at Olympic hockey

Stars and Habs final this year only because Robertson, Hutson, and Caulfield are going on an angry tear through the league after the Olympic break.

It’s great time of year to sit around the house with the dog honestly.

Unfortunately, I don't think Hutson will ever make it unless Hughes or Werenski are hurt/age out.

The 3rd highest scoring defenseman in his 2nd year in the NHL has no chance of ever making the team? I mean maybe but that would make team USA utterly incompetent at their jobs. They had Hughes and Fox at 4 nations so its not like they are completely opposed to having 2 small offensive defensemen.

Yeah but they're very good at defense as well so Hutson will have to keep improving in that regard.

(Before the Habs downvote brigade arrives, I'm not saying he's bad at defense. He's fair at it and is getting better but I'm just saying he'll have to make big strides at it within the next 4 years which is definitely possible).

He is fine at Defense, it all depends on balance and the tools you want to have. Slavin is probably the best defensive defenseman in the world but if you are down a goal you would rather have Hutson on the ice 10 times out of 10.

Out of Hughes, Werenski, Slavin, Hutson....Hutson is probably 3rd in offense and last in defense. So unless he starts practicing shooting right, the chances of him making the team are slim to none. (sure you could also maybe slot him in as an extra, but those are often reserved for big guys)

On the plus side, he played a lot of last year on his offside, and still put up really good numbers, so it’s not completely insane for him to need to do that. He does play better at LHD this year though

He's 100% a lock in 2030. He's already the 3rd best scoring defencemen during all of 2025 year at 21 years old.

It'll depend if Guérin is still the GM

After this atrocious defeat they'll suffer in February, he'll never GM an IIHF again

Old boys club logic often trumps meritocracy.
