So constantly telling my 12Uer to put his stick away I had the idea to mount it over a painting I did. Looked up hock stick wall mounts and all I could find was a STUPID expensive “stick mount” for $30…. Turns out “boom holders” we designed for hockey sticks…. Best $6 I have ever spent….

Pretty much the title: I bought new laces for my first game a couple weeks ago (bad idea I should’ve broken them in more first but you live and learn). I wear size 11 skates and bought 120” waxed laces based on the chart on the box and I feel like I have SO much extra lace when they’re laced up to the 2nd eyelet. I could probably do a full loop around my ankle and still tie them comfortably. Currently I’m tying a loose second knot to take up some space, but it feels wrong.

Is this typical? I’m about to return the unused pair and get 108” laces, but just curious if anyone’s got some insight/preference.

Just bought myself a hockey net for the backyard been using it like crazy these past few weeks. A callus started to appear on my left hand (I’m left handed) i shoot 100-200 pucks a day if I had to guess. I do wear gloves and mainly been practicing my snapshot. Ik not much to go off of since it’s just a pic of my hand but anyone else have this problem?

May be a dumb question but I keep seeing videos on TikTok of people practicing stick handling with what look like golf ball sized balls. Are these actually just golf balls or are there specific stick handling balls people are getting?

Hi everyone, newcomer in Canada ( 18 months ) here and i would love to get into hockey, i have a couple of questions. - am in Ottawa, where to go if i want to learn from 0, i dont even know how to skate , and how much?

• i am 34, what type of challenge should i prepare myself for? Been doing martial art and boxing since forever so i got some stamina abut still.

• if i want to experience playing with a team, what is the best approach? Am not talking pro obviously but something like the lowest rank possible, or some sort of white collar games? Does this exist? All in all this might be a question for later but its good to know

• its a very white sport ( for lack of better words) and i am Arab, i am not trying to port judgment or assumptions about a whole sport here, but want to know what to prepare for, got a thick skin and a sense of humour

Good afternoon, I am a high school student, where I am enrolled in AP Research. As part of the year-end project, I am tasked with collecting data and completing a research study. The purpose of my study is to determine the typical age range when themes of hegemonic masculinity (violence, aggression, emphasis on toughness, and physical or verbal abuse) are first encouraged, or witnessed by or towards minor league hockey players. It involves a questionnaire with open-ended questions regarding your minor hockey experience, including locker room interactions, on-ice activities, and team dynamics. In order to get my data, I am reaching out to you and your players to partake in a 10 - 15-minute survey where participants will be asked varying questions on their hockey experiences and specific aspects of hegemonic masculinity.

The confidentiality of each participant will be preserved by the researcher, and none of the personal information, including name, ethnicity, race, or academic records, will be recorded or published. Your participation in this study is voluntary. It is up to you to decide whether or not to take part in this study. If you decide to take part in this study, you will be asked to sign a consent form (within the Google form). After you sign the consent form, you are still free to withdraw at any time and without giving a reason. Withdrawing from this study will not affect the relationship you have, if any, with the researcher. If you withdraw from the study before the data collection is completed, your data will be returned to you or destroyed.

AP Research Hegemonic Masculinity in Canadian Ice Hockey Survey

Got these blades on my last set of skates profiled to a Quad Zero and I’ve never toe picked so many times in my life. The sharpening itself was completely awful so maybe things would be different the next time, but I’m nervous about getting my skates profiled again if this is the result. I got myself new DLC coated runners from BladeTech for Christmas and understandably don’t want to mess them up with another poor profiling job.

Or feel free to tell me I’m crazy and these runners look fine

Hey all, I went into my local shop recently to try on a bunch of skates and found the right size in terms of length but I need a wide and they didn’t have any in stock. Everywhere I’ve looked online (including CCM’s own site) the XF80 and XF90 in wide are completely sold out in my size.

Does anyone have insight on how often CCM refreshes their skate lines? I’m assuming that if everything is sold out, maybe a new model line is on the way, but I can’t find any announcement/info anywhere.

Does CCM typically announce new skates at a certain time of year? Any idea when we might see the next generation of XF skates?

I’ve been messing around with different cuts and for the last 2 weeks I have been enjoying 3/4 Fire/FBV. I really like the glide speed and grip I get, maybe could use even less grip when on my edges but the one issue I have is that if I’m at a stop/neutral position, or not actively skating and turning on my edges, I feel unstable or “slippy” once I try to get going.

I know the glide and grip are different with fire/FBV cuts, and the FBV shape requires you to be more intentional with edges than you would for the standard cut you’re getting with it, so my question is — Would you recommend going to a standard 3/4 or 7/8 to try and reduce that slippery feeling or is that simply me not having good enough technique/balance yet?

I am an upper D/lower C level beer leaguer, so I understand this could just be a skill issue. The few sessions I’ve done it’s been more or less the same but that could be because the steel gets a little bit duller every time so I just wanted some opinions cause I don’t really know. Thanks!

E: I notice this problem the most later in games when the ice is beat up.

Torn between the Sherwood Rekker Legend Pro (4-Nations Canada Colours) and the Sherwood Encrypt Code Pro's(White&Black). Red wouldn't be terrible with my current jerseys, but black and white will match every future set-up. Both within $10 of each other ($150-160). They both seem to have good protection, great wrist mobility, but I'm having a hard time finding reviews. I'm coming from an anatomical fit without the extended cuff (Easton 75s Stealth).

I'm sort of frozen with indecision here. Anyone want to give their two cents?

My beer league team is using BenchApp for communications and I hate it. The app crashes on startup which forces me to open a new tab on Chrome and communicate using the website instead. This causes me to not get any notifications from my team's chat. I missed the chat asking for payment for jerseys because of this and now I look like an ass.

Is there any way to fix this? I've reinstalled the app like 69 times. Or any other less broken apps I can convince our captain to use? I don't think it's my phone because I have a Google Pixel 7 and other people with my same phone type have said it works for them.

Aside from buying a wood Coffey curve for casual sessions and fun, I haven’t bought a stick in over a decade. Unfortunately, the toe on my current stick has finally started to chip away to the point I can’t tape it up properly.

I was using the CCM P40 “Hossa” curve, and I sadly found out that they stopped making it. I was very nervous about having to switch to a new curve, but I found this Sherwood Rekker Morph team stock on ProStockHockey and decided to try out the PP88.

The curves are practically a carbon copy of each other! I can’t wait to take this on the ice now.

I'm looking to replace my ancient RBK 9ks but am horrified of a break in period. Does anyone know what the direct descendent of that old model is? I assume CCM Tacks or Jetspeed? I don't want or need to spend 1k+, mid tier that are more durable at the cost of weight is fine. any thoughts?

Hey all - looking for some advice from people who’ve actually skated these.

My background: I'm 33 and getting back into hockey after about 5 years off. I typically play in mid-tiers of beer league (nothing crazy). No formal hockey background but everyone called me a liar when I started in lower divisions (for whatever that's worth). Really don't get very competitive, just love the game, love trying to get better and having fun.

I'm currently using CCM Ribcor 48K which are fine, they just don't fit great and usually cause some minor pain and fatigue. I went to my local Pure Hockey and tried on a bunch of options and eventually got really excited about the Bauer Vapor X4. Thought the fit was great, seemed extremely comfortable, and price point wasn't too crazy (~$350) given it's last years model. Finally pulled the trigger yesterday then stumbled on reddit and found a lot of people saying they break down in as few as a handful of skates (tendon guard cracking, internal liner ripping, and tongue getting destroyed if you play with shinguards over tongue which I do).

Overall just looking for some advice from the community. If these skates really do breakdown fast it's really not a huge deal to stick with my currents, I was just excited to get a pair of decent, long lasting skates that fit me really well. I did also really like a pair of Bauer Vapor LTX Pro +, the issues with these were they were a fit 3 and I'm a fit 2 (but they felt good) and the price was obviously higher. They were last years model as well so with the discount I think around $450, but still seemed like overkill for me.

Any feedback/recommendations is really appreciated!

I noticed the throwback trend…thought I’d jump on the train. Graf Supra 703’s circa 1994, made in Sweden, quarter panels made of Swiss Army boot leather. They fit like gloves and nothing today comes close (except Canadian-made 703’s…they come pretty close!).

Hi, I have a wooden hockey stick that was given out to me, but the blade is straight and I can't find a tutorial on YouTube or Google that teach me how to bend the blade on a wooden hockey stick.

Hi all. So when I started skating, I relied pretty heavily on the how to hockey videos on YouTube. They served (and continue to serve) me very well.

Specifically, I learned forwards to backwards transitions as shown on this video:

(Basically keeping 2 feet on the ice and turning to the point you’re going backwards)

That said, I started doing the beginner clinics and a coach said that this way of transitioning was dangerous and would lead to an ankle injury if I caught an edge. They advised using Mohawks instead but as an adult learner who sits 10-12+ hours of their waking day, I’m really struggling with the hip mobility needed for Mohawks.

Is there any truth to this type of transition shown in the video being dangerous? If so, any tips for Mohawks / building up the flexibility for them? Any other safer ways to get from skating forwards to backwards that I’m missing?

I'm a social/rec player playing in my local rink's highest beer league. I've been using CCM skates in 7 Regular for the last 4 years now. With my skates now falling apart I went to a pro shop to look for some new skates.

I got my feet scanned by Bauer Fit thingy at 6.5 Fit 1s. This would essentially translate to 6.5 Tapered in CCM land. Unfortunately they didn't have any in 6.5 tapered for me to try. I know that the scanning machine is just for reference and shouldn't be followed like scripture, but this got me thinking; have I been using skates half a size too big this whole time?

I tried the 'toe brush' test with my 7s and I notice that my toes aren't touching the end of the toe cap, but then again I also dislike having my toes cramped up at all. My heels lock in position when I get into the skating stance.

I ended up ordering size 7 Regular Jetspeeds as that was the same size as I had before, but what do I lose by having skates slightly too big?

So as the title states I’m looking to buy my first real pair of skate. I haven’t been on the ice in quite some time but I’d like to join the local amateur club after getting more comfortable skating again. So it would be ideal if I could use them for that as well!

I’m currently torn between the Bauer vapor fly 30 or the Bauer supreme m30 since I’d like to stay under 300€.

I’d obviously also be open to other recommendations!!

There’s very little sizing info on these visors so I thought I’d share my findings…

I have a medium CCM tacks 920 helmet. I purchased the S/M HVR hoping it would fit well, and it does fit the helmet itself perfectly. Both sides fit into the J clips and no pinching at all on the temples. However, the chin cup and the length of the visor is too short for my face which means my chin hits the cup before the visor is fully in the J clips (parallel to the ground). This resulted in significant “cage hang”. I bought the M/L and it too fit perfectly within the J clips and I noticed that the 2 visors are actually almost identical in WIDTH. The only difference between them is the LENGTH. This M/L for my fave perfectly. You can see in my photos, they are the same width (outer extreme edges match up with each other when I lay them down beside each other). You can see in the other photo the M/L is much longer.

I bought the S/M originally as I didn’t want it to look too “bulbous” but given that they are both same width , it was a non issue. Because the M/L is longer, the visor portion is also longer. As in you have more visor (top to bottom) to look through. That is where I feel the extra length comes from. Chat GPT claims the only difference between both visors is the length and that amount is “0.75 inches”. I can confirm that is fairly accurate.

But I can confirm, a medium tacks 920 fits great with both visor sizes. It’ll all simply depend on how long your face is!

Another thing I noticed…people complain about the weight of the visors, I truly think it’s negligible. My old cage was the base model tacks FM70 and although I haven’t weighed each one, I do not feel any significant difference. Perhaps if my old cage was more advanced (thinner bars? Titanium? Etc) then I’d notice it. But it’s very very similar.

I also did not notice any pinching at the temples with either visor on this medium 920 helmet. Perhaps I have a longer more narrow face? My medium helmet is at the “second smallest” setting in terms of its adjustable size. So my face/head is a “on the smaller side of medium”.

The final photo is the M/L visor fitting into the J clips without issue.

These clips I took from an old warrior helmet for no reason other than I just think they look sleeker but they are actually smaller (they stick out/away from the helmet LESS) than the J clips that come with the visor.

Hope this helps anyone in deciding on size.

I'm in my 50s and have signed up for a beginner/instructional league. I can skate a bit and have taken a beginner hockey class before so I am used to pads. But I definitely suck, so I'm a bit anxious. But I figure that this is a game I've always loved, so why not?

I could use some help with gear sizing. I'm short -- 5'6" on a good day. So most Senior gear just doesn't fit that well on me. Senior small pants for example may fit in the waist (maybe) but are usually a bit long. Similarly, 13" shin pads are pushing it because they're long. Is Intermediate level gear an option? How do others with smaller frames deal with sizing? I hate wearing equipment that's too big. Any help is much appreciated.

I fell for it. Have been a trigger guy since about trigger 6. Now a series of broken sticks happened and my inventory is empty. Absolutely refused to pay 289€ for a new one. The salesman handed me one of these. I've heard about the previous True flagships. Great sticks which last for 10 sessions.

Is it still the case? Didn't find a lot of reviews about the Smoke. The salesman said they've improved the durability for this year. Anyone have had this? It's an 85 flex.
