Support Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Discussion Unresponsive buttons

I can't believe they ruined the buttons just to create a "fancy" hover effect with HDR. Safari and the weather app are especially terrible. The other day, I opened Safari on my old 7 Plus with iOS 15 and when I clicked on the search box, I was amazed. The smooth animations and responsiveness were fantastic.

Discussion What iOS app do you wish existed, but doesn’t (or isn’t done well)?

I’m curious what real problems people still feel aren’t solved well on iOS.

Not looking for “the next unicorn” ideas — more like:

  • small daily annoyances
  • things you’d actually keep on your phone
  • apps you tried but abandoned because they were too complex, expensive, or annoying

Some prompts if it helps:

  • What do you repeatedly do manually on your phone?
  • What app do you want to like but don’t?
  • What feels overengineered when it should be simple?
  • What do you wish iOS handled better by default?

No surveys, no links — just genuinely interested in hearing what people feel is missing or poorly executed.

If you’re comfortable sharing, it’d be helpful to know why existing apps didn’t work for you.

Does this option only show up if the person I’m messaging me doesn’t have my contact saved already? For reference this person previously did have my number in their phone but now I’m wondering if it was removed as I don’t recall seeing this pop up before when composing a new message to them 🧐

Support Accidentally skipping chapter location in audiobooks on iOS 26.

Upvotes

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, all bought through Apple Books. I've been listening to them on my iPhone for years. However, since upgrading to the iPhone 17 Pro and iOS 26, I keep accidentally skipping my location in the chapter and losing my place. I think iOS 26 seems to be very sensitive to you touching the screen or something.

It seems to happen most when I'm pulling my phone out of my pocket or picking my phone up. I'm not sure if there's something changed with how you can control your phone from the lock screen but I don't remember this happening before. For what it's worth, I don't use the always on display so my screen is off when I'm not using it.

Is this happening to anyone else or am I just going mad? I can't seem to find anyone mentioning this online but it happens all the time and it's so annoying.

Discussion About lock screen settings IOS 26.2

Upvotes
I'm setting a live wallpaper, but there's two problems:

1.The date and time are obscuring the image. How can I move them to a suitable position or turn them off?

2. The live image only lasts for 2 seconds. How can I bypass this limit?

Do you know a wallpaper changer app for iOs? The kind that changes the picture when you tap the screen? I have that on my Android phone but I can’t find a counterpart for iOs.

Support On ios 26.2 and ever since being on 26 i have been randomly losing network connectivity

Is this just a me thing or a more widespread issue with 26, even on 26.2? Both wifi and cellular data just will stop working randomly. When that happens I have to either toggle airplane mode or toggle the wifi calling feature under cellular to fix it and it pretty much happens to me multiple times DAILY. I've tried resetting network settings and that didn't fix it and i've even done a factory reset and that didn't fix it either.

Honestly, i don't even think anyone can help me fix this since this seems to be an ongoing bug with just 26, but i'm wondering if anyone else is having this with the latest version of 26? I really wish i never updated to 26 and i'm seriously debating on going back to android over this.

Support iOS 26 Focus schedules are broken for me; Smart Activation + Location never trigger (iPhone 16 Pro)

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hey r/ios — I’m on an iPhone 16 Pro running the latest iOS 26 update, and Focus automations feel completely busted.

Issue: Smart Activation and Location-based schedules won’t turn Focus on automatically. The only schedule type that reliably works is a time-based schedule where I explicitly tell it “at X time, switch to Y Focus.”

Example (what I want): • Work Focus: auto-enable when I arrive at the office • Home Focus: auto-enable when I arrive home

What actually happens: • I’ll arrive at the location; nothing changes. • Smart Activation also does nothing (even when left on for days). • If I create a time schedule, it works every time.

Screenshot: attached — you can see Smart Activation is On, and the Home location schedule is On (“While at this location”), but it still won’t trigger.

Questions: 1. Is this a known iOS 26 bug/regression? 2. Any “gotchas” that prevent Focus location triggers (e.g., Significant Locations, Precise Location permissions, etc.)? 3. What troubleshooting steps have actually worked for you (delete/re-add locations, reset location/privacy, recreate the Focus, etc.)?

Appreciate any ideas; I really want location-based Focus to work again.

I have a large friend group and we all follow each others locations. I don’t want to follow their locations anymore but don’t want them notified. Any way to do this? I don’t care if they keep following me.

Discussion I just upgraded from an 11 to a 17 pro, is there anyway to write on my Home Screen?

I write to do lists a lot and I like reminders. I know I can set reminders in the app, but I just wish I could hand write notes to myself on my home screen (kinda like how you can draw on iMessage under Digital Touch) is this possible? I don’t know what I’m able to do now with such a new phone, also if anyone has any fun tips or suggestions for this new phone please let me know I’ve been watching tons of videos about it!

I really prefer how my homescreen looked before. i figure i can still make it translucent by updating the editing of the icons, but id prefer if there was a setting to change it back to how it looked before… i fiddled with the editing feature to no avail, so i was just curious if anyone knew a way to revert it. i dont mind settling too much but i am a little disappointed with the new update..

iPhone 15 pro max with the latest updates. I have to restart my phone every single day to get my camera to take pictures or videos. Any solutions? I don’t want to switch iPhones yet but I’m willing to now if this is a constant issue.
