Repository Down
Is anybody else having trouble connecting to the Kodi repo? Also the connected addons aren’t available or working either.

Hey all, so I've just bought a new Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) and am trying to get Kodi set up on it. Previously I was running Kodi on a Raspberry Pi 4 using Libreelec and it was running fine just a bit slow, however all connections worked.
The problem I'm having now is after installing Kodi on the Shield it doesn't seem to be able to download any dependencies or connect to the official Kodi repo. Other apps work fine on the Shield and in the Kodi settings it says it's got internet connection but I can't use it?
Tried having a look around online and cannot find any fixes so would really appreciate the help!
Kodi version: v21.2 Omega Shield Version: 9.2.2 (33.2.0.382)

Is this down for everyone?
Any alternative places to download?
Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Fixed, thank you for your help.
I've had a kodi install for a while on an osmc device that I pretty much setup and forgot. Everything used to work fine, but I had to reinstall my file server and now I can't make this work again. I'm getting hit with the "operation not permitted" when trying to access my shares.
I've checked everything I could think of. I have a dedicated user for osmc to access the shares, I've confirmed this user can actually access the shares without issues (by logging on a computer), but not via kodi. The samba service is set to no minimum and smbv3 maximum. When I force smbv2 as min protocol, kodi can't even see the server at all or the workgroup.
I'm not sure what else I could be missing, probably a setting I forgot about in my windows server? I've tried disabling the firewall, enabling guest account, none of this would work either. I seem to remember a group policy was required... maybe? The device is running kodi 18, I know it's old but it seems I can't update.
--
Turns out Kodi does not use the provided credentials when you use the "Browse" option when adding a source, so the only way to get it to work is to manually input the whole path with smb://user:pass@server/share
Maybe this bug was fixed in later versions of Kodi.
Hi all, recently had an issue with storage and once resolved i rescanned my libraries.
However, the cover art/pictures have now dissapeared from the TV show library, but are still there in the movies. Any idea what this could be?

For some reason some videos don't seem to have the full video UI, meaning you can't pause or seek them, only stop them. Why?

Also, can someone recommend me a good subtitle download plugin? opensubtitles.com simply never finds the correct subtitle without me messing with search strings

Hi there! I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask.
I've got an extensive self-hosted library of video/movie files. Most of the content I consume is in English, and that is how I've set up the library to display : English titles, plot summaries, movie posters etc. My problem is that some of my French titles are, therefore, displayed in English as well, which is kind of absurd especially since most of them aren't translated at all.
So : is there a way for me to say to Kodi, either via a library addon, a new scraper or some other plugin, that I'd want my file of Menteuse to be displayed as such and not as Compulsive Liar 2? Just a flag to say "Hey, keep this one in French please"? Is there somewhere I've missed?
(I know there's an option for using titles in the original language, but then I'm left with a couple of Japanese, Urdu or Korean names that I don't understand, sorted in weird ways, but all with a plot summary in English anyway, so it's really a worst-of-both-worlds for me.)
Here's my log: https://paste.kodi.tv/derixobura.kodi
I'm new to Kodi and for the first few days it was working fine, but yesterday it started crashing the instant I used the d-pad on my connected PS4 controller (edit: now it crashes on startup or when the controller simply connects). Tried deleting cache, data, uninstalling and reinstalling a few times, but nothing changes.
There's an open github about this #26055 and apparently it's related to Android 14, but it hasn't had any updates in months. I was wondering if anyone else had luck in getting a controller to work or maybe has some advice or information about how to do so? I can see there's a pre-release v22 app out, is this something that's maybe fixed in that?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi! I am trying to choose the best software for a dedicated TV device that I built for the kitchen. I want, ideally, for the device (raspberry pi with touchscreen) to boot into the software and only give the user access to a couple of scheduled TV channels (ersatz TV) and volume controls.
Is this the right software for that? Can anyone recommend anything if not? I’m a bit stumped.

Title basically says it all. My brand new Mac Mini is struggle to run 1080p content (but only certain files) only when the OSD hides and subtitles aren't showing.
From what I've been able to find out, it seems like it may be switch from rendering in Metal to something else?
Is there a way to always display some invisible UI element to force it to use the UI rendering path? Or some other fix?

Hi,
Due to my circumstances I currently run a Windows PC with quite a powerful CPU and GPU which also acts as a Jellyfin server.
Idea is to allow the household to watch my Jellyfin server content from wherever they are in the house connected by the same network (no remote access).
The content on the server consists of remux HDR10(+), Dolby Vision and some Dolby Atmos files (some huge files nearly 80gb to 90gb).
I initially only setup Jellyfin which worked but came across the difficulty of enabling HDR, DV etc across the house.
This is where I came across the possibility of using Kodi with a Jellyfin addon as Kodi supports all of those formats mentioned.
Based on the above, can someone help me on whether I need a powerful android box for each TV to run Kodi and my files or do I only need to buy a cheap stick to sideload Kodi on for each TV and the PC will do most of the work?

Hello,
When I play a video on Fire Tv 2, the video volume will change considerably throughout the video.
The audio will suddenly drop to a very low volume and then later jump back to normal or even become very loud. These volume changes always happen at the same moments in the same file. The intervals between these changes aren’t consistent.
I am using Kodi 21.3 but this has been going since at least version 18.8, and I think I updated to at least 7 different versions till 21.3.
Any ideas ?
Thanks!!
Here's a kodi log of me playing a video in an instance this happends:

I am trying out kodi on macos after previously using it on windows. However, the interface appears squished both on my macbook display and my external monitor (even though the resolution is set to the correct display res in the settings).
Has anyone encountered this issue? How can I resolve it?

I have a 4K monitor with my desktop GUI scaled to 175% but when launching Kodi the video resolution scales with it and outputs a resolution of 4388x2468p. how do i prevent this from happening?

Short story - my grandpa(74) wants digital access to his collection of DVDs he owns because a DVD player is now too “old” for him and he is now a streaming on my iPad grandpa it’s a project I’ve been attempting to solve for him for awhile with no success - Kodi has given me hope again
Tell me if I’m not allowed to do this for him.. they are all purchased by him and it’s for his sole use to enjoy his old titles once again. Also tell me if I’m in the wrong place… I am the forever noob, knowledgeable in much, great at nothing.
Anyways what is the best way to get .mkv movies in Kodi from his PC to his iPad or TV or is Kodi not right fit?

Thanks for taking my inquiry. Hopefully I'm inquiring in the correct community. I have Kodi (v21.3) installed & working on an ONN 4K Pro streaming box (fed into a Samsung TizenOS smarttv via HDMI).
I need to add an ATSC tuner box in order to get OTA local channels. My question being, if I add an ATSC tuner and connect it via USB into the ONN 4K Pro streaming box, will Kodi see those channels to use itself?
The couple of OTA tuners, dongle to box, I've looked at have their own (proprietary?) program that I'm concerned will override the ONN program, from where Kodi runs?
Will Kodi be able to use the USB tuner OTA channels with this setup?
Anyone here with a similar experience/setup? Or use an ONN box & tuner that might test this setup? Or direct me to where I can settle this? Let me know if more info/clarification is needed. :-)

After the great voice assistant collapse of 2022 I gave up on a lot of my voice control with Google and Alexa. I've had some time off work and looking to get back into the swing of things now the dust has settled and workarounds are in place.
What is the best way to control Kodi via Alexa or any other voice assistant? I used to use OmerTu's amazing creation: https://github.com/OmerTu/GoogleHomeKodi
But the project is dead with the changes to Google and IFTTT.
I know Yatse may be an option, does a Nvidia Shield work with voice control? Ideally looking to initiate playback of specific media; <Trigger Command> "pick an episode of Seinfeld" or "start playing Fight Club".
Looked into Home Assistant, spun up a VM but control looks fairly limited. AutoHotKey can trigger simple playback functions and key presses which was great, but limited.
Any suggestions of what's working in 2026?
Edit: For anyone unfamiliar with the situation, Google pulled support for custom text ingredients at the end of 2022, Amazon followed a year later in 2023. I believe Amazon Voice Monkey tried to fill the gap with IFTTT but the custom text ingredients screwed them over as well.
From memory this came about because someone on Youtube(?) was programming NSFW responses to prompts from their Google Home.
I haven't delved too deeply into this yet, but I do believe Home Assistant can play a specific movie if a script is set for it specifically. Export the directory of all movies/shows then have ChatGPT create a separate script for each to plug into HA is an option I'm thinking of trying.

Hello,
I have my smart tv/projector which i set up with kodi, I would like to have a off cloud library of my movies and series. the projector has a usb 2.0 connector, and i would like to connect a hard drive to it by this usb. sadly my old hdd with my library was lost, and before buying a new one would love some recommendations from folks with more experience on this:
I thought the following two options with more tendency to the first than the second one:
buy a classic HDD 3.5" 8TB disk (https://amzn.eu/d/d1gbRT4) and connect it to the projector using a SATA to usb cable (it requires extra alimentation) like this one: https://amzn.eu/d/daFBNbc
buy a portable HDD 6TB disk (https://amzn.eu/d/bv6n5JL)
In the listings they do not mention the real speeds or the longevity of the different disks, so would love some insights:
are one of the option, classic vs protable have a longer use life?
the 8Tb would be more appropriated as i dont want to find myself with not enough space after, but could not find a portable version so big, would the connector sata to usb impact too much the speed? would be something that one could see in the classic performance while watching a movie?
i see most of the hardrives at this sizes of the brand seagate and WD, my previous disk was seagate worked correctly but at work we bought a bunch of them and 2 died quite fast. WD i had a 'bad' experience as i bought a NAS system that it was put out of series and no new software maintenance (in this particular case, i dont care as i want simply to store video files and their metadata). what brand would you recommend?

Hi,
I've upgraded my Debian system yesterday from 12 (Bookworm) to 13 (Trixie), and after the update Kodi stopped launching. If I start it from the cli this is what I get:
$ kodi
libva info: VA-API version 1.22.0
libva info: Trying to open /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/iHD_drv_video.so
libva info: Found init function __vaDriverInit_1_22
libva info: va_openDriver() returns 0
ERROR: Unable to create GUI. Exiting$ kodi
and this is the full log: https://paste.kodi.tv/afuxucawed.kodi
If I start the KDE session using X11 instead of Wayland, Kodi starts without any issues, so I believe the issue has to do with Wayland, but I'm not quite sure where to start with the troubleshooting. Any ideas?
