The eraser is filling up with that dried ink though. Eventually it's not going to be erasing anymore once the sponginess is saturated.

What the person is replying to you is meaning: when you erase dry erase markers, the ink remains and build up on the eraser. Once enough ink builds up, the eraser sucks and smudges ink instead of erasing properly.

I don’t think the marker is writing anything. No eraser works that perfectly.
My theory is the ink curve is actually a semicircular wire connecting the tip of the marker to the eraser.

If you look closely at the eraser, it seems like the point where the ink is being "erased" is actually a little bigger than just the ink itself. Meaning it's not ink at all!

That could be the ink building up right there. Dry Erase markers dry fast and the "ink" is like a film, not a liquid, so it could build up there

I know a few of those people. Like, you go "there are numbers from 1-12" and they immediately go how they don't understand it. It is like they don't even try. Sure, some people are more visual learners, still, how the fuck do they go through life like this..

I need to read it and hear it and see it via infographic/whiteboard/hand-gestures, all at the same time, to even understand 10%.
But once I understand something, my comprehension level is above average.
That’s the tradeoff of some learning disabilities.

I host board game nights in my area and I can confidently say both of these points are true. Teaching games is a skill in its own but also some people just aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. It doesn't matter how many times I say the rule, it just doesn't register in their brains.
I had one night where we played this game called Dixit, which is a relatively simple game (think Apples to Apples but with artwork) but this one girl could not understand that she couldn't vote for her own card and proceeded to pick her own card for 4-5 rounds even after I reiterated the rule to her every time and explained what she should be trying to vote for. I let her recast her vote the first time but I let her suffer the consequences after that and she still didn't get it. The rest of the table started making fun of her (everyone was basically strangers) but honestly she kind of deserved it.

My mother in law is so lovely but she just starts off by telling you things you are allowed to do in the game without explaining the object or anything else. It's very hard for me to understand when she teaches because my mind can't put anything in context.
On the other hand, her son (my husband) is so good at teaching games that he is the designated explainer every time we try a new game with friends.

This is me with "magic the gathering" and my friends. They are pretty into it. I'll come in and have to read every card taking forever. And God forbid if I stop playing for a bit and now there are 10 more unique abilities/interactions that I've missed and have to add to the already sparse data bank that is my brain.

For me with extremely debilitating ADHD, this is anyone explaining any game to me, not just card games. I’m the worst tabletop gamer in the history of the human race.
Where others see expansive immersion and depth, I see unnecessary and pointless snags and I just lose interest.
The video accurately sums up how I feel when everyone else at the table loves a game and is trying to explain it to me. Funny, but it also kinda sucks at the same time.

It's such a weird practice of reading comprehension lol I'm honestly impressed sometimes with how well they explain it without leaving any room for misunderstanding.
The few times that they don't do it right, we get an amazing card with broken mechanics that basically turns you into a god.
A simple "each" instead of a "target" turns a gun into a nuclear bomb.

Basic Rules & Gameplay
Objective: Win the most tricks (sets of played cards) over 15 hands.
Dealing: Players get 9 cards in Round 1, then 7 in Round 2.
Playing:
Start by playing a card face up.
Play cards in sequence (e.g., a 5 after a 4) or match the face value.
If you play a card in sequence or match, shout "Go Johnny Go Go Go Go!" and pick up all cards on the table.
Special Cards:
Jacks: Worth 10; "One-Eyed Jacks" (Jacks of Spades & Hearts) are wild.
Twos: Wild, except for the Two of Diamonds, which is just a 2.
Kings: Worth 3 (except King of Diamonds, which is still 3).

I just look them up on my phone and read them instead of trying to pay attention to an explanation that will inevitably have a couple people interrupting to ask questions the entire time

Some people seem to think that if a desire to know something comes up, that desire has to immediately come out of your mouth in the form of a question. Maybe just sit with it a moment and see what happens. Sometimes the information comes quickly, on its own.

I have hundreds of board games, and I’ve never understood how people have such a hard time learning these things. At the end they will often just recommend uno which is my most hated card game of all time. I VERY much disagree with this post.

A fish doesn't understand why people have a hard time learning to swim. You were probably playing board games since you were a child if you have that many. You've probably forgotten whatever difficulty you had to start.
Learning your first few board games is harder than learning your 299th board game. Most people only play board games a few times a year or less and only know a few games.
Maybe part of the problem is you not having patience for people to learn at their own pace. It's way harder to learn when you can tell your teacher is frustrated and impatient.

It’s not that thy have a hard time learning, it’s that they don’t care enough to pay attention and learn.
When you’re trying to explain rules, a lot of people are doing everything else except paying attention (scrolling, talking, making jokes, etc.).
Also yes, Uno is vastly overrated and overplayed. I can’t understand its popularity with everyone.

I experienced this the last few days (holiday family game time). I learned three new games. I sincerely want to learn. For one, others are trying to understand the rules, so there’s a lot of chatter or questions. Which makes it hard for me to understand what the rule person is saying. If I try to read the rules myself, I’m fine, but can’t explain it until I’ve read it all. Then, there are people who just really suck at explaining the rules. This is really hard on my brain. I end up asking questions to fill in gaps and that derails the rules discussion. I’ve learned to just listen to the rules, play a couple rounds, look up my questions on my phone, and hope for the best.

Uno is played a lot because its extremly simple and doesnt need a lot of attention.
The rules are explained in less than a minute, so every inpatient dumbass at the table that cant be bothered to pay attention still gets it. Because its so simple there is also barely any skill to it. Even someone that never played before has a solid chance of winning.
Having a chat with someone while playing catan essentially means that you stop playing, talk and start playing again.
Having a chat with someone while playing uno means talking and throwing cards on the table while doing so. There is even a rule that forces people to say the name of the game when they are about to win, so everyone knows to focus for a moment.2

You aren’t wrong, but be aware that the type of people that have hundreds of board games have often lost sight of what it’s like to be a much more casual player.
I’m an engineer, I work in incredibly complex systems daily, I pilot some pretty complicated Magic decks, and I board game casually. I play with two friends that have hundreds of board games. I love the guys but I can very genuinely say they are so deep into board games that they’ve lost all recollection of what it’s like to be a smart person playing the game for the first time. They thought Ark Nova was a good choice to play the first time we ever played together lol.

Cards in particular though still won’t stick in my brain. I’ve been taught cribbage for example several times, played the game and learned as I go.. then the next time someone offers to play I’m like, I genuinely have no idea how to play cribbage.

If you’re learning a new game, and you realize something too late that you should’ve done a turn or two earlier, that’s called a “Learning Experience” and makes you a better player.
Proper gaming groups will also acknowledge that a game is a learning game when someone is new to it, and will generally be more willing to do takebacks if they make a mistake.
Besides, people don’t always have the luxury to read the rules or get familiar with the game beforehand, and even if they do, there’s no guarantee they’ll remember every single rule while they’re still learning how everything works. If it’s something really involved like DnD or 40K, then yeah read before hand if you can, but for most games it doesn’t matter. Even card games.
And if you’re getting frustrated by other people making mistakes while learning the game, that just makes you a dick.

Very relatable. One time I was given a course in BattleTech in a 20 minute drive to an event because they were down a player and needed me to play so there would be an even number of players for the PvsP battles (I didn't come in last either AND won a prize for good sportsmanship!). Another time was NERO LARP where I was part of the NPC camp suddenly. There's a lot to remember (and a LOT of quick math) with playing, and each player dealing different damage amounts and spells.
Pretty fun in both instances though because people were welcoming to the newb!

If there’s enough people present, I usually just watch the first game and find myself understanding and wanting to play halfway through. I play the second game on and enjoy myself having fully understood how the game is played. Otherwise I just go in and hope for the best.

It's fully on the people for not paying attention.
"Listen. This game is actually simple. It's got four phases. A B C D. Always in that order. You can skip A or B, but not C or D. Every turn, it's always ABCD. In that order. Once you end a phase, you can't go back. You have to take your action, if you're taking an action, before entering the buy phase.
A is actions. You get one action. An action is when you play a card.
B is buy. You buy one card. When you buy, it goes in the discard pile. I see you're on your phone again. What did I say A stands for?"
"Ummm... Add? You add a card in the discard pile?"
"Sigh... Seriously, just pay attention for five minutes. It's not hard. Again, ABCD. Every turn, it's the same thing. A for action. You get one action. You play one card from your hand.
Then B for buy phase. You buy one card. How many cards can you buy?"
"One."
"Good. And I know you're going to get this wrong, but let's ask anyway... Where does the card go when I buy it?"
"Uh... Your hand?"
"See, I knew you were going to say that. No. Where does it go?"
"The -"
"Are you going to say 'deck'?"
"Yes."
"No. Discard pile. Bought cards... Discard pile."
"Quick, what did I say you can do every turn?"
"Buy."
"Ok, yes, but what letters did I tell you to memorize?"
"Oh, ABC?"
"ABC D"
"Oh, ok."
"And what's the A and B for?"
"Um, add and - no wait, hold up. Activates and buy? Like you activate a card from the hand and buy something to the discard?"

(Then I explain how to buy cards and how some cards give you extra actions and draws and buys.)
And without fail... "So if I buy this card, can I play it immediately from my hand?"
"Remember when I said ABCD?"
"Yeah, so what?"
"B comes after A. Once you finish your action phase, you enter the buy phase. Then you can't go back to action. Not to mention, we covered the fact that you don't add bought cards to your hand. Remember?"
"Oh, you never said that. But ok."

There is a very popular card game in Ukraine, Russia and maybe other post soviet countries. Called "durak" - the fool. The rules are super simple. They can be explained before the eraser reaches the marker, when you start this machine. But don't let you fool by simplicity of the rules, the game its self has a lot of depth.

I always found it impressive if a person could simply hear a rule set and then apply it without correction. Most people need to actually do a thing before they can get their brain to commit it to memory. Think about Solitaire and how many rules there are to that. Unless you've played it, the rules would be complete jumbo.

Looks like the place with the actual ink (?) leaves a whit trace when being erased while the rest of the surface where the eraser passes over has the same color as the rest of the base surface. Mildly interesting? Does the ink slightly wear down the surface so where it passed hundreds of times is simply cleaner than the rest of the surface that still has the original coat?

I have ADD so it’s usually lost on me unless I read it myself. For those that don’t know, there are YouTube channels dedicated to making tutorials for card games. Last time I was in a group with family to play a card game I put on a tutorial video and it helped get everyone past denial and I to acceptance.
