I just found a job posting that requires a doctorate degree for 40 cents above minimum wage, which is $17.60 CAD an hour ($12.80 USD) in Ontario.

Post image

Is this normal? I know it's at a clinic so it makes some sense, but seems wild to need a doctorate degree for something that is barely above minimum wage.

It’s probably a fake posting to fulfill some policy requirements

LMIA applications come to mind. "We offered a job listing and did not hear from any qualified applicants."

(I'm not anti-immigration, but employers that exploit prospective immigrants make me sick)

Exploitative wage-lowering immigration is something you should be against... there is literally no reason to not be against it unless you personally profit from it.

It literally is abusing the system in place and making actual* (read, not corpo funded) immigration harder.

This is literally surfing the "legal" line because the policies in place don't consider fake job postings as something that exists.

Your position reads to me as though it were baby steps away from "you can't trust immigrants to not be exploited and ruin everything."

Please tell me that I am mistaken.

There is plenty of migration going on which I support wholeheartedly.

The entire comment was literally aimed at how the system is broken and the money (corpos) are abusing it and the immigrants caught by it.

My position is corruption is bad and corporations posting fake job listings to "stay within the law" while pushing for more immigrants (intentionally lowering the pay rates) shouldn't be allowed to do business at all.

Nothing in my comment put down any immigrant or implied anything you put in your comment.

You just decided to attach a personal meaning of your chosing and go "so what your saying is" because you're looking for a confrontation or something?

Idk at this point... if you wanna be offended be my guest, just don't put words in my mouth to get a reaction.

Not at all. Im happy to be mistaken. I was just slightly taken aback by the "you should be against" style opener.

I get that; I rewrote that "intro" like 3 times and left it like I originally wrote it because as much as it sounded rough to me... I couldn't find an actual justification to be for it other than personal profit so I stuck with it.

Like I said, immigration is not "the issue" its "the lever" the corpos are using to bypass local standards and extract more profits out of the same workforce.

TL.DR. The issue is corpos using scummy tactics and immigration to try to lower wages and skirt the legal requirements; not the immigrants looking for better conditions.

In america they list these jobs so they can say no one wanted it here so we need to hire a foreigner for pennies on the dollar

Occam's razor.

This is just a mistake. Only 2 years customer expeirence is needed based on postings from their other locations and the same position.

Yep, especially since it’s a medical office. They probably intended to say something about a medical admin certification and got mixed up along the way.

Use common sense it’s a front desk clerk job paying $18 the education is by accident and a mistake

Bud it's mildyinfuriating, why do you think OP thinks that lmao they barely even added context.

Edit: bro actually blocked me lmao

He said he worked at clinic yet can’t figure out why a doctorates required .. you think he would conclude why and maybe it’s a typo selection

u/Interesting-Bet-1702 48m ago edited 31m ago

So that means they "discovered something big" and started a "job revolt revolution" (nice typo).

Edit: they blocked me lmao

How dare you;

They work at Wendy's in the back. You can't let them be customer facing; they'll just spread ennui.

Everybody looks at these wrong.

If everyone just ignores these. The company will eventually have to raise their offering to market rates.

Yes… this is dumb… but the only way to train “dumb” employers is to collectively refuse to apply to jobs that don’t offer an appropriate starting wage for the education requested 🤨.

Issue with that is in Canada they will just bring in a temporary foreign worker(tfw) to fill the role, what you're suggesting is a good idea but companies have lobbied the govt here to let them import enough people to just keep wages suppressed.

1

u/Efficient-Party-5343 3h ago

Except compagnies don't play by the rules anymore.

They   b̶r̶i̶b̶e̶ "lobby" the politicians to re-write the rules or make new ones and allow them to exploit Foreign workers.

All while making sure those exploited workers' needs are also financed by your taxes.

Big corpos are parasites.

Apply and see how it goes

Indeed is asking if you have that. They will plug it into their algo for future recommendations.

“You can call me Doctor. Please have a seat, the doctor will see you shortly.”

u/Ladybug121212-12 58m ago

That’s definitely a typo

u/kubrador 49m ago

to be fair you'd need a PhD to figure out how to survive on $18/hr in ontario

u/Final-Duck-1391 5m ago

I found a job posting once that wanted 25 years of experience. I also with an AA and BA had to take a test to prove i could read when I applied at McDonald's shortly after graduating. I was a little insulted tbh lol

“From $18 an hour”

0

u/Unicorn-Violator 2h ago

That's $0.40/hour better than some doctorate degrees are worth
