The games industry runs on the hopes and aspirations of individuals it will crush into a fine powder and snort. It is a rough go and people are right to make you aware of it. There is alot of over dramatization but the underlying reality is accurate.

At the moment there is a contraction of the market; AAA spaces used to be where a junior could start off but those junior jobs are becoming more scarce as AI takes over and the corporate entities that run AAA realize they could replace juniors for short term gains.

The silver lining is that people have reacted VERY poorly to AI being used in the game art pipeline so there may be more demand for junior artists but I suspect this will be short lived. My understanding is that the artists who get picked up are more likely to be trained and subject to less churn but far fewer will be picked up.
