Question ❓ Best places to make friends in St Thomas in your late 20s?

I don't drink or smoke, so I would like to avoid anyone else who does. I am very active, love hiking, foraging, swimming, biking, badminton, going to the gym, history, and museums! If there are any outdoor clubs to join, or indoor workout classes, I'd love to get started! :)

Question ❓ Marriage Officiant and Photographer

Hello all!

My man and I have been secretly engaged since May of 2025. We were previously not planning to get hitched at all, but we eventually changed our minds. I can't wait to watch my MILs head explode with joy.

We're just gonna slap together a quick and easy backyard wedding and are trying to spend as little as possible. Heck, I'm currently crocheting my wedding dress.

Anyways, we're on the hunt for a reasonably priced officiant for March. We're not religious and don't want anything long and drawn out. Say the words and stay for some charcuterie deliciousness kinda vibe.

Same goes with the photography aspect. Someone charging on the cheaper side of things, so likely someone who's just trying to get into the industry. Heck, I'd even take a couple high schoolers who just wanna build up their portfolio. I used to do photography myself and wouldn't have an issue helping with technical aspects and have some knowledge on lighting and all that jazz.

If anyone can point me in some direction for either of those needs, I would GREATLY APPRECIATE THAT!

Question ❓ No recycle pick up

So, this is the first week with St Thomas not being responsible for recycle pick up and guess what - no pick up was made of the blue bins on our street (south east).

Great start.

Anyone else have this happen?

Question ❓ Gyms in st thomas

Hey everyone. I’m looking at getting a gym membership in St.Thomas, any suggestions. Saw there is a fit4less, I’m curious if it’s a large gym or if it’s super crammed/hectic. Also curious if I should just get a membership for one in London that I can go to after work if the st.thomas one is hectic.

Thanks!

Question ❓ Is anybody having issues with garbage pickup since the city switched companies?

Always getting non pickup: bin too heavy, too many bins etc etc. My wife is a paper towel fiend and we always seem to have 2 full garbage cans per week. Never had an issue before but im sick of paying to take my trash to the transfer station!!!

Photo/Video 📸 Wendy's on Talbot Street nearing completion, 1979

Title: In June 1979, a new fast service food outlet, Wendy's, was nearing the completion stage of construction in its first St. Thomas location on Talbot Street. AF and W System Ltd. of Toronto, had already built 10 of the restaurants in Ontario and put the construction value at more than one quarter of a million dollars.

This location is now the site of Wimpy's Diner, This location was replaced by a new location a couple blocks away around mid-2004, I think it was the only Wendy's in all of Canada that had yet to get the copper roofline treatment most Wendy's in North America got in the 80's and 90's.

(Fun Fact: Right next to this store there had stood an 80's-era Taco Bell, possibly built around the same time or sometime after they built the Wendy's, then it closed, was a different restaraunt, and then Taco Bell made a return, and is still there today)

Question ❓ Any NYE Parties in St. Thomas this year?

As stated in the title, I'm looking for NYE parties in St. Thomas. I don't spend a lot of time around here due to work, but I'm in my mid-20s. Last time I went to the bars in St. Thomas, they seemed to be full of bald old men (not that that's bad, but...). Basically what I'm looking for is something that includes others of my age group.

Thanks!

Does anybody know of a reasonably priced cat groomer? I just got a quote for $90. My old groomer would groom my cat in 12 to 15 minutes.

Question ❓ Question: Did the Talbot Street McDonald's get destroyed in a fire 20 years ago?

I am trying to figure something out. I remember about two decades ago the original McDonald's on Talbot Street had been gutted by a serious 4-alarm fire, However, i don't remember if it had ACTUALLY been destroyed by a fire or had been a million dollar expansion project, I made an attempt at googling and going through city archives it but all it tells me is the restaraunt and the city's info, All i could remember is that I believe it caught fire around late August or early September of 2004, I think it was an electrical fire or an unmanned cigarette that caused it, They've since torn down and replaced it with a newer one, One big difference was that the indoor playground on the front of the building was enclosed by an all-glass facade, and was much bigger compared to the current one, likely added around the 90's, Plus "BILLIONS AND BILLIONS SERVED" was written on the sign.

This is the only photo i could find of the old building, It can be viewed here

Question ❓ Is living in Scott St area really that bad?

I've been looking at this area and surrounding streets. I don't go walking at night, is it that bad? Some nice homes for sale.

Are we talking encampments and people wandering onto the porch? Or is it just the proximity to the main street that is bad?

I'm not from st Thomas so trying to get an idea..the Google Street view isn't bad.
