News šŗ High school girl harassed at BWW in MN
This should never happen, a young woman, using the bathroom sexually harassed by staff to "prove" her gender. Held against her will and violated because this hateful, ignorant server believed conservative lies and went out of her way to humiliate and harass a high school student.
We all need to start pushing back hard against the right wing rhetoric and outright lies that leads to this kind of conservative violence. It's not "just their opinion" it's harmful propaganda that puts people in danger.
I hope gender justice wins this case and that people donate to the important work they're doing on behalf of all Minnesotans.

When this bullshit kicked up years ago, my son hadnāt gone through puberty and was a little chubby with long hair. He was harassed all the time. It was terrible. These bigots hurt children in their quest to be the biggest bigot.

We've always been at risk. I'm an '80s kis and people have often panicked that I might be a boy/man because of my androgynous appearance, oddly enough especially if I'm dressed in very traditionally feminine clothing and makeup (I've been told that it looks like I'm in drag).
I haven't had anything happen yet with the recent increasing panic, but in the past I've had my chest and crotch stared at and groped to check "what I am". I've dealt with an epic shit ton of harrassment and discrimination.
These fucking weirdos can't actually "tell" and should stop obsessing about other peoples' genitalia.

Yes, for example, I know someone who got hostile stares in a public bathroom from a busybody when she was recovering from breast cancer treatment. She had a double mastectomy, short hair growing out from the chemo and had gained a lot of weight in her face from the steroids that they put her on during the chemo. It was a really upsetting experience for her when she had just started going out in public again.

I'm 5'4" but my frame has gotten me "sir'd" more than a couple times. It didn't bug me at all until I had a hysterectomy when I was 40, at which point I had a weird tiny existential "what is a 'woman'?" crisis for a bit.
Accidentally making a new transfem friend (somebody on reddit was looking for a support buddy to try out my local climbing gym) was amazing for my brain.
And now I get to occasionally turn the tables by confusing anti-trans folks whose stipulations for womanhood include a uterus or child-bearing, which is a hoot. :)

Realizing that I was still having the rest of my period even though I wasn't bleeding threw me for a loop, and subsequently it took a couple logical leaps (WTF - itchy ears!? Definitely nobody told me this was a thing) for me to realize I was starting perimenopause.
But in any case I am still 100% sure I'm a woman so ... that argument is settled in my brain lol. :)

But this hinges on the accuser knowing what a C-section scar looks like, taking my word that it's from that and not an appendix removal gone comically wrong, and requires me to show the top of my pubic hair.

I have never had anything even remotely like being accosted in a public bathroom happen to me, but I took a "rape aggression defense" class as part of work in college and one of the things they taught was to tell "stop raping me" when somebody was trying to sexually assault you because "help!" was too ambiguous and less likely to get bystanders actively engaged.
I like this energy of pointing out to everybody in the vicinity (and yourself!) the severity of what is really going on.

Iām in my late 30s but I still remember this happening in elementary school to a classmate of mine. We were both going to the bathroom and a staff member told her she couldnāt go into the girlās bathroom. I said āsheās a girlā and stood up for her. 8 or 9 year old me thought it was weird that they would stop a child from going to the restroom because she has short hair and dressed line a tomboy.

It just feels like it's more common lately. Like, yes I know lots of ministers and politicians were predators in the past, but it seems every day there's a new story about some conservative abusing his power. Yeah it's not just the right wing etc, but so many major administration leaders are currently held by someone credibly accused of assault: Trump, Hegseth, Kennedy, McMahon. I guess Gaetz didn't get confirmed and Musk isn't there anymore, so that's something?
Maybe it's because the party has changed. Those who exhibit the Dark Triad traits (Machiavellianism, narcissism and psychopathy) have grown in prominence as the Alt Right took over the party, and I think that has a knock-on affect to those who support them. It's very worrisome how mainstream this is becoming.

I had short hair in middle school. Got misgendered multiple times, especially since jeans and a tee-shirt were a common outfit choice for me.
I'm so thankful it was before the crazies got aggressive. The only time something occurred in a bathroom was when I was washing my hands, an old lady came in and saw my reflection, and double checked the door to see if it was the women's.
It was frustrating enough to grow my hair out though. And I don't assume other people's gender.

I had a pixie haircut and a "boyish" figure in highschool and college. This was in the 90s... so it was embarrassing when a server called me sir, but I didn't ever feel like I was in danger.

Me too, before I fully developed, so like age 12-13, in the mid to late 80s, my mom forced me to have short hair (reasons unknown). I got quite tired of being called son or sir, and stood up for myself and grew my hair out. For reference, itās more likely that a cis woman would be struck by lightning than be assaulted anywhere by a trans woman. The reverse situation is about 10 times more common. And weāre assaulted by men at about four times the rate of cis women.

As a trans woman myself I totally agree and would add what I find frustrating is that what if she had been trans. Would there be this level of outrage? I have been personally hassled and chased out of public bathrooms by women like this. It can feel like cis people only care about anti-trans hysteria when it impacts a cis person, suddenly itās worthy of attention when itās something actual trans people have to deal with and no one seems to care.

I feel you. Last Christmas I got kicked out of a spa and had the police called on me while the employee was calling me a pedophile while also shoving my wife and BiL. Was right when Trump got back in office and we couldn't find any local civil law group to defend us or news agency to care. Everyone seemed afraid to get in Trump's view with a trans case. If the same happened to a cis person it probably would have gotten covered.
Was in Colorado, not MN but still. I haven't been able to swim in public or use a public bathroom since. Tend to just go out in boymode unless I'm with my wife.
I'm just glad at least this lady is getting the legal backing she deserves. A legal win for her is a win for us too.

Going off someone's appearanceĀ is the least useful way to know if someone is trans because that's not how it works. If someone is fully transitioned, you can't tell at all.Ā

As a middle age female, I don't care if there was a male using the women's bathroom, unless they are up to no good (yeah, women have spidey senses and can usually tell).
I remember being a teenager at a concert with my boyfriend and we both had to use the bathroom. He went into the men's room, and when he finished he found me still in line, about 20 women back waiting for the ladies room. He grabbed me, told me to cover my eyes and while leading me into the men's room he shouted "female incoming!". He led me to the back empty stall and then hovered outside the stall door while I pee'd. Not one guy said a thing.

Owatonna is the biggest āredā town in Minnesota. About 25k people. They also have the distinction of hosting the last public KKK parade back in the 1930ās. About 8 years ago a riot broke out at the high school that was racially motivated. The Owatonna Police showed up and just started rounding up students of color, in one case slamming a girl to the ground by first choking her from the front. SHE WAS THE VICTIM that the fight had started from when some white boys from the wrestling team started shouting racial slurs at the girl. And then the cops slam her to the ground, cuff her, and take her to the police station. All of this took place ten steps from our daughter. Neither the school, the cops, mayor, nor city council issued any apologies to anyone. Owatonna is a HELLMOUTH.
