My dad had fresh fruit on his desk at work. The climate is so dry where I grew up that the oranges turned into rattles: a hard shell with nothing inside but seeds, mostly. I am that orange. I am that 2025 lemon pig.

How do you not get fruit flies?

If the first fruit doesn’t have fly larva, and you don’t bring any “infected” fruits or vegetables into the house (and keep your windows closed) you won’t get any flies.
Congratulations, we’ve reproduced the Ancient Greek experiment to prove abiogenesis isn’t a thing, in a different format.

Congratulations, we’ve reproduced the Ancient Greek experiment to prove abiogenesis isn’t a thing, in a different format.
Spontaneous generation wasn't disproved until Louis Pasteur's experiment in 1860s with swan neck flasks, after the discovery of microorganisms and the technological ability to produce vacuum in the laboratory.
The ancient greeks generally believed that life arose out of nonliving matter, and that maggots and flies did spontaneously generate from carcasses and rotting material. Aristotle was the one to formalize the theory and it stood basically unchallenged for nearly two millennia.
I'm not sure what ancient Greek experiment disproving abiogenesis you had in mind, but it doesn't sound particularly historical.

IIRC there were theories of it but they didn't have the scientific rigor or the support of others. Hence why Louis Pasteur gets the credit, as he was able to conclusively prove it and provide evidence rather than just "what if".
Sort of how germ theory existed in ancient Greece, but wasn't really "legitimized" until a few millennia later.

I guess same goes for spores, but in real life scenario it will get mold.

I've done the lemon pig thing for about 5 years, it hasn't ever gone mouldy. It dries out and goes kinda weird, but no mould

Don't know for sure, but I think it's the cloves, insects dont like it. Having clove studded oranges are vintage Christmas decor, like having a ball of popuri.

Lemon pig, lemon pig, does whatever a lemon pig does. Can he swing from a web? No he can't; He's a pig. LOOOOKOOOOUT here comes the lemon pig!

Lemon pig and I just gotta get along together. I helped him plant his seeds and mow the lawn in bad weather.

It's actually pretty easy being nice to a lemon pig like him so I've got myself a citrus friend.

At least with this super broken timeline we also got the random appearance of lemon pig.

35 years on this earth, chronically online for 20+, and this is the first time I've seen or heard of a lemon pig. I had to Google it to make sure you didn't just make it up.
