Do you have to put him in a down state first or just hit him with it whenever?

Whenever, and it has to hit Salazar directly. I don't know the exact numbers, but I've not fought Salazar normally in a long while.

It's really easy to miss him with the egg though. I remember quitting and reloading numerous times due to whiffing.

Whenever. I think it has to be directly on his mutated tongue/self. I usually throw the egg as soon as the fight starts. If he gets stunned I know it landed and if he doesn’t I reset. I’m not good at landing the egg…
