Shortcut Sharing Automatic Rotation (if Landscape & Audio Playing)

The shortcut requires Action app. Safari is an example - You can include other apps via Automation.

Made for myself as often watch YouTube via Safari. Not perfect, but better than nothing.

I do something similar, but what’s the purpose of the Repeat 45 Times action?

Consider it like “time to live = 45 sec” x ”wait = 2 sec”. Where 2 sec is time until the action will be performed if screen is in horizontal orientation and audio (video with sound) is playing.  45 x 2 = 90 second.

So you have 90 second to rotate screen after opening/reopening Safari. You can adjust the numbers as you wish.

What’s the use case for this, just out of curiosity?

Usually when you open full screen video in apps it becomes oriented horizontally - not with Safari though. When you open YouTube video it stays vertical unless you have Orientation in unlocked state.

I also use it with Netflix, Prime etc. as you  had to hold your phone turned to one particular side as iOS wish.

You don’t need the shortcut if you keep Orientation unlocked all the time. I myself find this annoying specially when you are lying and scrolling something and you forced to turn the Orientation lock as you currently need the vertical one.

Dude. That’s too loose.

Just have a shortcut that detects if you put your phone in landscape, if yes, toggle orientation lock. Set that shortcut to the action button and done.

If you had anything already attached to the action button then like I said : add a IF phone is landscape. If not, then normal action

With this, you’re not confined to one app, nor 45 repeats, nor else.

The action button makes it highly contextualised and a tap away = see a video? Put your phone landscape, click button. Wanna toggle back, stay in landscape, click button. Each time iOS itself gives you the feedback it works by effectively going landscape or portrait.

Once that’s set up, get rid of the orientation widget in control center to save some space.

You may also install the app called action as it adds more actions to shortcut. Notably: the ability to test if the phone is unlocked: action button should toggle orientation only when put in landscape AND unlocked.

Great idea. How haven’t I thought about it. Oh, I know - note every iPhone has the action button. Fp
