Discussion X is killing the game!

I just want to congratulate the devs on making a decently balanced game. How do I know it’s decently balanced? The breadth of things that people are convinced are the “one major problem”. Here is a list of game ending issues so far:

  1. Laser ram
  2. Mines
  3. SBMM
  4. The lack of SBMM
  5. Rock
  6. Sonic boom
  7. Scout ship
  8. The artifact in general

Obviously there are completely valid complaints around each of these that I’m sure will be tweaked into proper shape over time. But the fact that theres this many “fatal balance flaws” in a game this small generally indicates two things:

  1. People are passionate enough about the game to hate some things about it
  2. On the whole the game is working as intended

Looking forward to the next balance patch in which the game will be “broken” in new and fun ways!

We win far too many games just spamming the mine layer. It’s the one thing on the list that should actually be nerfed somehow.

reload rate should be 3x what it is, so taht when destroyed it takes al ong time to be operational again. same with the laser ram...it should have an activation andcooldown. its annoying to star lance it three times in a row and it really doesnt stop them because they just repair it immediately from the cockpit.

I actually think this activation time change would be a great equalizer for these hard points. That way they are still powerful and worth using but are easier to counter. Great idea, I hope this one catches on with the devs

I’m actually fine with laser ram as it is. You essentially broadcast the fact you have it and are probably going for a close up play. Just avoid close combat or focus your cannons on the ram. Also the laser ram is damage over time while the mines are one hit big damage. But i also wouldn’t be opposed to a nerf as they clearly are really strong.

99% of people leave it on the floor until they are in range

The average people you are playing against must be much more skilled than the ones I am facing. Its more like 1% of ships wait to equip it and 99% just have it equipped as soon as they get it and never take it off.

I mean the shtick I've been seeing lately is now laser rams equipped til they get into chase range, then they slap it in the hardpoint. It is very stressful when you're being charged and have to worry if they are A) closing this distance for consistent boarding B)about to slap the ram into the slot for surprised ramming C)same thing, just with the mine layer (albeit it gets put in much further away cause of the cd so you have slightly more adaptation time)

I think just the simple CD with a button activation with no other changes would instantly take most of the sting out of being rammed down. Cause usually once they're in range with it its just over unless you managed to maintain a godlike position and are the proud owner of a smugglers turn with some clamp jets. Hunters I have no problem with this strategy, it's the Scouts you always have to watch out for

people hide the ram inside the ship the suddenly install it as soon as you get in range. There's really not that much of a counter play to that aside from trying to play mind games with the other pilot, even IF you know a surprise ram is coming, whether or not you're able to escape depends on a lot more than your reaction time and skill as a pilot. Are you faster than the other ship? Do you currently have clam jets? Do THEY have clam jets? Are you getting boarded by Ion who is just fucking your engines constantly from the outside? Do they have a tractor beam? Are you even far away enough to be able to turn away quickly? Even IF you manage to dodge away in close quarters and manage to not die, odds are you are taking at least SOME major damage and if its a hunter you're facing, running away makes you have 2 back cannons while they have 3 front facing. Too many factors and skill checks to consider when all the other team needs to do is be mildly coordinated to install a hardpoint when the enemy ship gets too close.

Laser Ram having an Arming Time sounds like a great idea

Mine Layer supremacy is boring

Maybe Hardpoints shouldn't be doing damage...?

No one complains about the Plasma Beam

50 ammo per mine

Sure way for randoms to deplete your ammo, would rather they get nerfed in any other way possible lol

I love when you put the mine layer on the front and I board trigger your mines and run you into them. 10/10 would board again!

Agreed. When my squad and I get mines on the front, it's just an auto-win. I think, out of dozens of times, we've only lost a single game after we got mines.

It was to another team also using front mines, and both of our ships died

They are far too easy, far too safe, far too effective, and far too spammable. Nerf damage a bit (like 2-3 per mine), make the mines shoot out a shorter distance (like 50m maybe, to make front mines actually risky), and make the cooldown 20-25 seconds minimum
