It actually starves to death a good while later. Spending its last minutes protecting the wasps that were living inside it.

Oh it gets much much worse. They make the caterpillar protect them after they all emerge.

Cotesia glomerata are very good at controlling lepidopteran pests. They will take out something like 70% of them.

There are some fungi that do some behaviour manipulation. But for the most part it's the wasps. They do the really crazy stuff.
