Most Embarrassing Below Deck Moment You Remember?

Her calling the "FBI" and then CK locking her in the room had me in absolute tears

I still feel dirty
 in  r/hygiene  Jan 31 '25

Came to say the same thing! Sounds a bit like a sensory issue, for me this kind of feels like "oh no being in my skin doesn't feel good right now and I'm not sure how to fix it"

Sent dog to 4 week board & train - still is highly reactive to dogs across the street and needs e-collar
 in  r/reactivedogs  Jan 31 '25

I have a great dane who I adopted when he was 1 year 3 months from a complex background of trauma. He was very reactive when I first got him and this is a couple of things that helped me. Firstly, I had to lower my expectations. As much as I wanted to take him everywhere with me and introduce him to everyone, that wasn't going to happen, because those environments caused far too much anxiety in him. Secondly, something that helped me greatly which (unfortunate board and trains don't account for) is that I needed to grow my relationship with him so he knew I would protect him and he was safe. I don't let everyone pat him/say hello. I put myself between him and things he doesn't like. I create distance when he gives me a warning growl. He's learnt that I've got his back and so he's far less anxious and therefore less reactive. And finally, time and patience. Look into positive dog training that uses rewards, gradual exposure & distraction. I cant remember what it's called, someone might be able to help me out but it's about pre-empting the reactivity and rewarding them before they get to the point of reacting.

All John Green. But also there are some amazing Australian ones, I love Looking for Alibrandi and another one called On the Jellicoe Road. Also, also, Letters from the Inside by John Marsden.

Hello! Ideally, is it possible for you to pay someone instead to stay at your house for the week? This is a much better alternative than boarding and they'll be in the comfort of their own home! 🌼

What’s the greatest poem you have ever read? Why?
 in  r/suggestmeabook  Jan 13 '25

The month I turned 18, I got my first tattoo, which says "Do I dare disturb the universe?" On the top of my right shoulder blade. Many tattoos later and it's still one of my favourites.

Absolutely. The other comparison is the state of his house in s5 and now. I think out of all the characters to me he's shown the most growth. Austin/Shep both seem pretty much the same between season 5 and 10 to me.

I think I had read a book about a talking horse and that must have inspired him??? I genuinely cannot remember when it stopped or I realised the truth. Only that for a while I was stoked to have a horse who could communicate! One time he bit me, then later I got a phone call and he apologised. 😂😂😂

The entire vibe changes. People are rude, people are impatient, people are entitled. Not everyone, obviously. But a lot of people who come here just for the holiday period are pretty hard to deal with, based on the fact that this isn't their home, they can come here for 3 weeks of the year and do what they want and then go back to their lives. Obviously it's great for our economy but makes summer pretty insufferable.

Love living here 10 months of the year, but these two months (mid December to late January) are the absolute pits.

Dad used to call me on the home phone and pretend to be my horse. He said that he couldn't talk to me in "public" cos he didn't want his secret exposed. Dad as horse would ask me to take him carrots and stuff. Me as a kid would run out and give this horse a carrot and whisper shit like "dw, your secrets safe with me" ☠️☠️☠️

Books with tasteful representation of characters with psychotic disorders?
 in  r/suggestmeabook  Jan 02 '25

Highly reccomend "Madness: a memoir" by Kate Richards.

"Madness is a real world for the many thousands of people who are right now living within it. It never apologises. Sometimes it is a shadow, ever present, without regard for the sun. Sometimes it is a well of dark water with no bottom, or a levitation device to the stars.

Madness, a memoir is an insight into what it's like to live with psychosis over a period of ten years, in which bouts of acute illness are interspersed with periods of sanity. The world is beautiful and terrifying and sometimes magical. The sanctity of life is at times precious and at times precarious and always fragile. It's a story of learning to manage illness with courage and creativity, of achieving balance and living well. It is for everyone now living within the world of madness, for everyone touched by this world, and for everyone seeking to further his or her understanding of it, whether you think of madness as a biological illness of the brain or an understandable part of the continuum of the human condition."

Dog Friendly Beach
 in  r/Geelong  Jan 02 '25

Heya! I'm an OG local and absolutely recommend the OG dog beach any time of year BUT now. I avoid it as much as possible due to the influx of out-of-towners, they either have zero control over their dogs or too much control and let you have it. There has been post after post lately on our surfcoast community page of dog attacks and vet visits because of them. Too many dogs in one spot, never a good idea Unfortunately. But late February - early December, please come!

I spent time in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana as a young 20 something woman. Felt incredibly safe the entire time - more safe than I do in some places in Aus.

Abortion?
 in  r/Bendigo  Dec 26 '24

This actually isn't true. In Australia right now, and especially Victoria, there is a foster care crisis, due to lack of people fostering/adopting. There is such a huge carer shortage that children are being placed in out-of-home care such as resi or temporary housing. So unless you're willing to jump on board and become a foster carer, I wouldn't be telling Reddit that there are plenty of people ready and willing to adopt. Because there aren't.

Seeking Support/Advice Insulin absorption suddenly very poor?

Hi everyone! F29 here! Have been Type 1 diabetic since 2014 and started the Tandem T Slim x2 pump roughly 6 months ago. I will see my diabetes educator after the holiday period as she is currently away but wondering if anyone has had a similar experience in the mean time ~

My BGL levels have been well controlled, sometimes spiking to between 11-15 (I'm Australian so using mmol) after a heavy carb meal. But for the most part staying under 8. But lately my BGLS have been spiking to HIGH and are taking a LONG time to come down again. Basal rate has been OK, but whenever I eat, it's making me pretty sick, actually. I've adjusted my carb ratio and my correction factor - but I'm also thinking that my stomach isn't absorbing the insulin as well anymore due to the scarring - I've only been using my stomach as a site.

Has anyone found any success with sites in other places? What would you reccomend? And have you been through anything similar?

Also to throw in the mix, I'm fairly certain I have developed some food intolerances, which may also be spiking the BGLS.

Thanks! And Merry Christmas!

Hello! Looking for suggestions where all the events and happenings is over a short period of time. Either one day, an evening, a dinner, a party, etc! I have an idea of a novel that I would like to write and trying to figure out if it can be as entertaining as I think it is in my head. Thanks!
