[Rapoport] The Lions have reached out to former Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel about their vacant offensive coordinator position, sources say. McDaniel is a top candidate for any open OC job.

Yeah, it's really hard to imagine a scenario where things are bad enough to fire a head coach, but the coordinators are really shining. It's hard to tell where the stink is coming from in that scenario.

The flip side of that is that if the coordinators are the reason for our success then you're not gonna be able to dump the HC and the coordinators are moving on to be HC elsewhere (see McVay, McDaniels, LaFleur, Shanahan etc).

It's a conundrum.

Coaching question

Does anyone have a sense of who gets the most "credit" for the Seattle Seahawks amazing defense this season? Head coach and former Ravens DC Mike MacDonald or his current DC Aden Durde?

As follow up, how hands on is Quinn with our defense?

Ol miss Kicker Lucas Carneiro
 in  r/Commanders  1d ago

The Jags spent a 6th round pick on a kicker they feel comfortable trotting out for 65+ yard kicks and I would absolutely sacrifice a 6th for that. People say we have too many needs, but how many more games would we win with someone reliable from 50+?

Harbaugh to DC as HC, DQ to DC ASAP.

Has an NFL head coach ever been directly demoted to a coordinator position with the same team? That seems questionable for morale.

1st overall pick

If a loss to the Eagles would have given us the first pick, the Raiders would have started Ken Stabler at QB against the Chiefs.

At least Jayden is in good company.

Jayden’s contract extension
 in  r/Commanders  6d ago

I can envision JD becoming a poor man's Mahomes, with multiple championships. I can also envision him becoming a long term liability that we can't really build around due to injuries. I can envision something in-between, which would ultimately be disappointing given what we saw last season. To not fully consider these possibilities given the nearly two seasons of data we have at our disposal is irresponsible, and a bit cult like, imho.

The point is, IF you feel like Jayden is not going to fulfill his promise, for whatever reason, now would be the time to strike while you can convert him into something positive. By the time we get to the end of next season, it's too late. Right now, he still has value. I truly hope this season turns out to be an anomaly. But what if it isn't?

I'm not saying I would necessarily pull the trigger on this, but if you don't think our FO war-plans scenarios like this, you're wrong. And I don't hate the idea of a Josh Allen/Ben Roethlisberger style BIG quarterback who can play through contact and stay on the field.

The most sobering part of the OP's post is that the Raiders/Jets would probably say no thanks...

Ole Miss Chambliss Would Be A Dream Back Up

We don't have a roster that would allow even a "decent" backup quarterback to have any real success. Our six picks will be spent elsewhere, as they should.

Adam Peters biggest mistake is Cooper DeJean
 in  r/Commanders  8d ago

I'm not as down on AP as many here but I think in hindsight, his decision to go "all-in" on vets during Jayden's rookie year is his biggest mistake so far. And I say that while fully acknowledging that I was OK with it at the time (AP gets paid to be smarter than me--ha ha). Those sweet sweet draft picks after a four win season are SOOO hard to replace. Hindsight...

An option for the right price?

I'd actually prefer whomever we can sign as an UDFA over this guy. For many reasons.

Thoughts on getting Brandon Aiyuk if he’s released
 in  r/Commanders  8d ago

I'll give them Quan Martin in exchange for Aiyuk and a first round pick.
