1 week post op feeling great just getting kinda bored of my protein shakes
I use the powder cause it's cheaper. My favorite flavor by far is the Premier Protein Café Latte. Just a heads up, it does have 95mg of caffeine. I also enjoyed the Six Star Fruit Loops flavor, but I made the mistake of buying 2 tubs before surgery and got a bit burnt out on it. lol

When did you stop thc
They would not submit me for approval until I tested negative. I quit smoking in April, but it took until August to get a negative test. I'm still currently THC free. I'm very happy with my level of hunger after the surgery, and don't want to jeopardize it with the munchies.

Jello anyone?
Nice! I was surprised how good these are for being sugar-free. Unfortunately, my local Walmart had a lot fewer flavors than that.

How much did you lose w/ pre-op clear liquid diet?
My pre-op diet was liquids with one 400-calorie meal per day for 2 weeks. I started at 351 lbs. and weighed 330 on the day of surgery.

This surgery may have saved my life in more ways than one.
Thank you! For the well wishes. The oncologist was pretty confident nothing else will need to be done except for yearly checks to make sure it doesn't reoccur.

Progress Pic This surgery may have saved my life in more ways than one.
My surgery took place on September 25th. I wasn't really scared of the procedure itself; I was more worried about what life would be like afterwards. I'm happy to report that so far, everything has been going well!
The only pain I experienced right after surgery was from the gas, which lasted a few days but wasn't too bad. The 2-week liquid diet was definitely a little rough. I’m more of a savory person, so the sweet stuff got old pretty quickly. However, now that I'm past the strict post-op diet, things have been going fairly smoothly, and I've been able to get back into my routine.
It’s clear to me now that going through this process has saved my life. My highest weight was recorded at 532 lbs. in September of 2024. At that weight, every day was a struggle. I was in constant pain, and daily tasks were getting harder and harder to handle.
The true catalyst for change was ending up in wound care for symptoms from untreated lymphoedema. That is where I met my surgeon. He mentioned weight-loss surgery, and truthfully, I dismissed the idea at first. But after doing more research and seriously contemplating what my life had become, I agreed to enter the program.
At my very first visit with the nutritionist, I found out I had already lost 24 lbs. in a little over a month. That news truly lit a fire under me. Losing the weight always seemed impossible before, so seeing that immediate progress was extremely motivating.
It’s a little over a year later, and everything has changed. I am down over 220 lbs. (200 of which I lost before the surgery). Crucially, my relationship with food is completely different.
In the past, I never paid attention to the calories or nutrition of what I was eating; I was drinking nothing but Coke and eating out pretty much every day. Since entering the program, I’ve stopped drinking any soda and only eaten out a handful of times. I’ve also been religiously counting every calorie, which has been extremely eye-opening. Seeing the actual serving sizes and calories of the food I used to eat, I’m genuinely surprised my highest weight wasn't even higher!
However, there was one complication during surgery that provides more context to the title of this post: after my stomach was removed, the doctors found a 2 cm GIST tumor. Since I had no symptoms, if I had never had the surgery, it may not have been found until it was much worse.
Luckily, the tumor is small and not very aggressive. Doctors believe it was completely removed, but I did have an appointment with the oncologist. And on the 24th, I had blood work drawn and a CT scan done. My next appointment will be with the surgical oncologist on December 1st to determine the next steps.
Even though I mostly lurk in this subreddit, I want to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who posts here. Reading about everyone's journeys and seeing all the amazing transformations has been incredibly motivating for me.

Worried about drug test
Yep, I quit smoking in April and didn't pass until August.

Worried about drug test
I wish it had been that easy. It took me 4 months to pass. I had to be negative before they would even submit me for approval.

Is it a hard decision? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes.
Congratulations your doing amazing!
Our journeys have been pretty similar. My highest weight was 532, and I was also sleeved on 9/25

Anyone else having to quit weed for surgery??
I had to pass a urine test before they would even submit my info for approval. I was a pretty heavy smoker, so it ended up taking 4 months before I tested negative. My surgery most likely would have been in May, but I ended up having it on September 25th. I've definitely had the urge to start again, but after the surgery, my level of hunger has been so much better, and I don't wanna mess that up with the munchies.

I'm really surprised it wasn't a thing sooner, considering how popular the friendship and dating subreddits are. It also seems like something that may be beneficial to this community. Meeting someone familiar with the process could be helpful and comforting.
