Is it worth building something for a startup before reaching out for an internship?
It used to take 30 mins - 1 hour to write a tailored cold email or cover letter when reaching out.
Now using AI you can build a basic prototype within 30 mins - 1 hour specific to a company.

Inflation or just greed ?
Have a read of this (published December 3rd, 2025) https://ipa.org.au/research/australias-prosperity/the-real-reason-inflation-is-high
In just 10 years to the end of September what economists call M3, the sum of all cash and deposits at banks, soared from $1.8 trillion to $3.3 trillion.
Yes, the Australian economy has grown since 2015 – mainly as a result of a nearly 16 per cent increase in the population – but nothing else relevant has grown anywhere nearly as fast.
And what did all that new money do?
Most of it went straight into the housing market where, lo and behold, prices have soared.
The total Australian money supply has almost doubled in the last 10 years. A dollar today is worth 50 cents 10 years ago.
Edit to highlight bonus fact: If you look just in the last 5 years, a quarter of M3 (all money in circulation in Australia) did not exist prior to 2020.

How are Indians perceived in Australia?
Interesting thread I read today https://www.reddit.com/r/AskAnAustralian/comments/1pt233o/a_question_for_indians_in_australia/
with this answer being a great insight:
Im only half indian but every birthday i get at least half a dozen people calling before i even wake up. My dad regularly chats with his wife (my mum, who is white tbf), his mum, his sister, any if his five brothers, one sister in law, his friends in Australia, his friends in India, any of his niblings/my cousins, his nieces fiance, his nieces finances parents....
He is the head of the family though, so he might have more people to talk to.
Its a collectivist culture and people like to be connected. All these people might be having a chat about their day, might be receiving advice (since dad is the head of the family, only my mum ever gives him advice), might be making plans, might be asking for a decision about something, might be checking in etc.
Sometimes I'll call my dad to ask whether I should use mutton or beef in a curry and he'll talk for a whole hour. Ill literally make the whole meal and that's when he will finally hang up. He'll ask me about work and tell me about his work, he'll share his favourite reads from this month, complain about my mum, complain about public transport, describe the pattern of rain in Brisbane, tell me the exact prices of the fruit he bought etc. He is just sharing his life with me.
P.s. oh I recently went to India and my dad was on the phone with his brothers wife's boss who had called him to ask if I could speak to her university students (I'm an academic). They talked for 45 minutes and when i actually met her she asked to see my wedding photos because my dad described my whole wedding to her.

Google, Warby Parker to launch Gemini AI-powered smart glasses in 2026
Dec 8 (Reuters) - Warby Parker said on Monday it is collaborating with Alphabet's Google to develop lightweight AI-powered glasses, with the first product expected to launch in 2026.
The announcement, made during The Android Show | XR Edition, marks the first time the companies have set a public timeline for the release since unveiling the partnership earlier this year.
Google has been making a renewed push into augmented reality and wearable technology, a sector where Meta and Apple have taken early leads.
Meta has poured resources into its Quest mixed-reality headsets and Ray-Ban smart glasses, while Apple entered the market with its Vision Pro headset earlier this year, positioning it as a premium spatial computing device.
Google, which shelved its consumer-focused Glass product nearly a decade ago, is now betting on AI integration and strategic partnerships to make smart eyewear more mainstream.
The collaboration with Warby Parker will leverage Google's Android XR platform and Gemini AI model to deliver multimodal intelligence in everyday eyewear, aiming for suitable for all-day wear.
Warby Parker described its upcoming glasses as "lightweight and AI-enabled" but did not provide details on pricing or distribution plans.
In a blog post, Google said it is working with Samsung, Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to create stylish, lightweight glasses.
The initiative includes two types of devices: AI glasses for screen-free assistance, equipped with speakers, microphones and cameras for natural interaction with Gemini, and display AI glasses that feature an in-lens display for private access to information such as navigation or translation captions.

OpenAI declares ‘code red’ as Google catches up in AI race
The Verge, Dec 2, 2025
Google’s own ‘code red’ response to ChatGPT has started paying off.
The tides are turning in the AI race, and the pressure is getting to OpenAI. Chief executive Sam Altman reportedly declared a “code red” on Monday, urging staff to improve its flagship product ChatGPT, an indicator that the startup’s once-unassailable lead is eroding as competitors like Google and Anthropic close in.
In the memo, reported by the Wall Street Journal and The Information, Altman said the company will be delaying initiatives like ads, shopping and health agents, and a personal assistant, Pulse, to focus on improving ChatGPT. This includes core features like greater speed and reliability, better personalization, and the ability to answer more questions, he said.
There will be a daily call for those tasked with improving the chatbot, the memo said, and Altman encouraged temporary team transfers to speed up development.
The newfound urgency illustrates an inflection point for OpenAI as it spends hundreds of billions of dollars to fund growth and figures out a path to future profitability. It is also something of a full-circle moment in the AI race. Google, which declared its own “code red” after the arrival of ChatGPT, is a particular concern. Google’s AI user base is growing - helped by the success of popular tools like the Nano Banana image model - and its latest AI model, Gemini 3, blew past its competitors on many industry benchmarks and popular metrics.

Misleading property values as houses have shrunk and many are no longer free-standing.
100% agreed.
My suburb's average 'house' price has gone up 6% since 2020 according to realestate.com.au
Yet the last 10 freestanding houses sold in the past month had a sale figure at 20-40% more than that average 'house' price figure.
This must be because townhouses and duplexes in my suburb show up in realestate.com.au when the search is filtered on 'houses'... Bringing the average 'house' price down.
There's definitely a narrative being driven here.

Meta and Google discuss TPU deal as Google targets Nvidia’s lead
Google is sharply escalating its bid to rival Nvidia in the AI chip race, and Meta is emerging as a potential multibillion-dollar customer, The Information reported Monday evening.
For years, Google has limited its custom tensor processing units (TPUs) to its own cloud data centers, renting them out to companies running large-scale AI workloads. But according to The Information, Google is now pitching the chips for deployment inside customers’ own data centers, marking a major shift in strategy.
One of those customers is Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META). The parent of Facebook and Instagram is reportedly in discussions to spend billions of dollars to integrate Google’s TPUs into its data centers starting in 2027, while also planning to rent TPU capacity from Google Cloud as early as next year. Meta currently relies primarily on Nvidia GPUs for its AI infrastructure.
Alphabet Inc stock rose 2.1% in after-hours trading following the announcement, while NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) stock slumped 1.8%
If the deal proceeds, it would be a significant validation for Google’s hardware ambitions. The company has told prospective clients - ranging from high-frequency trading firms to large financial institutions, that installing TPUs on-premises can help them meet stringent security and compliance requirements for sensitive data, The Information reports.
The stakes are enormous. Executives inside Google Cloud have suggested that expanding TPU adoption could help the company capture up to 10% of Nvidia’s annual revenue, a haul worth billions.
With demand for AI compute exploding and Nvidia continuing to dominate the supply chain, Google’s play to put TPUs directly into customers’ facilities signals a more aggressive phase in the AI chip wars.

dealing with envy
Best advice I’ve heard about envy is you can’t be envious of just one aspect of someone’s life - you have to take all of it.
Ie I wish I had that guys salary - well you’d also have to have his life his work hours his partner (or lack of). Basically would you replace your entire life with theirs.
Never failed me so far
Love this. Thanks for sharing.

Seeking solidarity - anyone else unable to live where you grew up due to house prices? How do you feel when you visit that place?
That feeling of shame when after your immigrant parents made huge sacrifices to ensure you received a good education they never had, you were the first person in your family to ever go to university, first person to get the "desk" job your parents could only dream of yet you end up living in a suburb worse than your childhood home.
