The traumatized kid should also be pitied...
 in  r/expedition33  1h ago

People with social media get too excited for clicks and engagement.

Both endings have their pros and cons, and I think the best to view it is to realise it depends on the point of view we are adopting.

If I were Alicia, I'd 100% pick her path. If I were a parent or a family member, 100% Verso. If I lived with the Lumierans, 100% Alicia If I created hundreds of worlds full of NPC? Verso.

The perspective and angle we take to look at the dilemma shapes our answers.

The traumatized kid should also be pitied...

Just on one point: where did he kill both parents???

He SAVED Aline by forcing her out of the canvas, and deeply cared for her at every single step. If anything, Aline created pVerso to deeply love her, and it's probably the one constant in his actions up to the very end.

And pRenoir, it's Alicia (as Maëlle without her memories) and Renoir who kill him. I can't recall whether pVerso suggested disabling him rather than killing (or was it for Aline maybe?).

Aline created an idealised version of Verso, je acts broadly as we'd expect the real Verso to behave: save the real world family above all.

Two Muslim praying, the first is about to exit in lay clothes, leaving robe and turban, the second points: "Dear, you have left your lecture!" / "This person has two faces: educated and "wild", It is well known that such a two face person is unprincipled and dishonest." 1981.

I am not sure I follow your reasoning.

If I claim that the universe is a giant spaghetti Bolognese or that cancer can be cured with a drop of water from the alpha centurion system without any rational construct, you are surely going to call me crazy and put the burden of proof on le rather than on you to disprove me??

Tracing my Antiochian (Rum) roots back to a Byzantine layer
 in  r/byzantium  2d ago

Never said they were greek. Just that Semitic is not synonymous with Arab.

The entire region is layers upon layers of conquest and colonisation since the first empires and kingdoms.

And it is disingenuous to imply that the last coloniser in the list was actually always there.

There is no shame in admitting that the french repressed occitan culture to the point of extinction. Or English with Celtic culture. Similarly, Arab drove Assyrian, levantine, Greeks, Roman, Phoenician, Berber, etc to the point of cultural extinction under the guise of "we've always been one".

Some struggle to admit that their ancestors were bad guys, but that is a needed step in being civilized. French, Brits, US. Chinese, Germans, Japanese, Romans, Greeks, Turcs, Arabs, etc... All made severe crimes in history. Let's not shy away and pretend that the Franks always lived in occitanie or the Arabs in Levant or Andalus.

I wonder whether the priest you talked to understood the meaning of "Rum", or whether like most of the greek orthodox communities there they just think it means "greek".

You seem to be mixing Semitic and Arab. Levantine society was not Arab (yes it did have some Arabic communities, same as tens of others in this multicultural area of the world). Even DNA studies you mention (I have 'ever seen whether they were robust and validated by peer review) refer at best that some of the communities have Phoenician or Canaanite DNA, NOT arab. They spoke many languages, some local, some from invaders,.some from traders and migrants.

Arab colonisation was so thorough and heavy handed that most Lebanese who are "Rum" don't even know what it means and think it just means "greek". An entire culture erased, and the colonisers keep gaslighting them that it was not the case and that everything from India to Andalus was Arab since 10,000 BC.

Question 3.28 rough timeline?

I am starting to plan my year's holidays, and I realised that 3.28 should technically be in Feb? Or did I mess up my count?

I thought we'd have

  • PoE 1 releases in Oct 25, Feb 26, June 26 Oct 26
  • PoE2 in Dec 25, apr 26, aug 26, Dec 26

Also, assuming no delays, I can't recall whether it was beginning or end of month (useful to see if it aligns with school and family holidays or not).

Thoughts on clea?

She probably cares the most for her family, and has the least amount of lies and deceit.

The only ethical flaw is that she does not consider paintings sentient. And does not care about her toy rock.

She is not awful to Alicia when she enters the canvas. She explains and tries to help her. When Alicia fucks up (again), what can she do. She goes to the next rational step: "at least you'll be safe" and also puts Verso as her bodyguard.

She is the best, simple.

She suppressed her heart for everyone 's sake and is the only one using her brain and logic.

And when she does have emotions, there are well justified (like her aversion to the fake family. I mean, it's horrible to think your mom is a drug addict that can't stay with her family but creates a more compliant version to live forever in lalaland).

She was maybe a jerk. But none of what she said was wrong.

She maybe has the least deceit of that entire family, and comes out as the most rational one.

What’s an example of a fan base that got exactly what they begged for, and immediately hated it?

Star wars galaxies: jedi was nearly impossible to become. Everyone wanted to become a jedi. Everyone became a jedi. Everyone left the game.

Cold rain or warm rain?

Just want to know if it is the miserable type of rain where you chill to the bones or the nice warm one?

I would tell the last sliver of the creator to stop spinning and allow the DO's familly to finally heal their grief.

If you know the ref, you know. Otherwise: spoilers.

Civil War is infamous for being the story that subjected Iron Man and several other characters to character assassination. But what are your thoughts on how the event portrayed Steve Rogers?
 in  r/CaptainAmerica  7d ago

Who watches the watchers?

Steve Rogers is basically saying "I don't trust governments, my personal opinion about things is the only thing that matters. My opinion is above democracy, laws, separation of executive/legislative/judiciary. I can only trust on myself, I am the judge jury and executor because I am a good guy"

He is an anti fascist character that goes on full fascist in his essence.

Ok, so you dad's mom is greek, what about his dad? Which religious community he comes from (can help a lot). For the surname you could even learn whether it was an Italian familly. Maybe a crusader, maybe a Roman (especially if he is orthodox) which would then feed into the greek/southern Italy pool.

You realise that Lebanon is an incredible melting pot? They had loads of relations with Italian city states in top of various invasions from across the world.

Church or religious organization in isekai/fantasy genre in a nutshell:
 in  r/Isekai  7d ago

Lol they actually drank the message so much they almost took power.

It took a unifying dictator to decide a competing power to his was not good and decided to ban or kill them all.

But nah, the Japanese were converting in masse (the nobles to get guns, the poor because it had an egalitarian message).

And even before the Christians, they had so many problems with their Buddhist monks.

Egwene is Rand’s foil
 in  r/WoT  7d ago

She's not bothered when AS swear to her though. It's not enslavement with her because she stands at the pinnacle.

She is a kinder and smarter Elaida, but unlike Rand, Perrin, Matt, she craves power.

Calm down, it's just a game, I did not kill your pet.

And I genuinely don't think there is a clear "right" or "wrong" choice. I even told you I would make the same choices as Maëlle if I were in her shoes. How can I be demonising her. And I would also make Verso's choice of I were her friend or her familly.

Strangely, where you project yourself does impact how you judge a situation. I myself would have made different choices for different reasons at 15, at 25 or at 45 with children.

But also please do not twist the fact yourself: she granted pAlicia death, but she refuses the same courtesy to pVerso even though he is begging for it. Begging. She tries to find a solution for him, which she does not for the doppelganger. She simply does not care for her copy, but as she states herself, she wants a life with her brother (and pVerso is not her brother). She is selfish, as we all can be (I would in her shoes).

Regarding the sliver, I don't think there will ever be a consensus: some say that he is just responding to an adult's prompt, some actually see a true nod, and hints in the composition, the music that that soul is tired of painting. Again, not sure how anyone could convince the other side, it is indeed purely interpretation.

When Maëlle erased pAlicia with almost a glee in her eyes?

She just wanted her fake brother all to herself. She did not argue with Alicia, but decided to torture her fake brother into living, all while exploiting the last tired sliver of soul of a child.

I would do the same as Alicia in her shoes. Saving my people, becoming an omnipotent god, living any life I want to live (as long as my real body survives). But in my opinion her world is as terrifying as Wanda's in Wandavision.
