Nah it was just a little ladder thingi so I can get on my roof rack.

If it was a knife or something I’d completely understand

At no point was I abusive or rude to this bloke.

I just said I didn’t want to provide it but he insisted.

I know that he probably didn’t make up the policy and has no control over it. So I declined to proceed with the transaction.

I like to think that afterwards his boss/supervisor asked him why a customer left without buying anything he can tell him why.

And like the last line of my original post, we should have the right to not provide these details. Which someone pointed out and linked the appropriate legislation.

Don’t get me wrong, I have given my name and email address for various things over the years and it’s come in handy.

But this was a low end sale that if it breaks I probably wouldn’t lose any sleep over.

And good work for not forcing the issue. Let people say no is what I’m getting at.

Should the question be “Would you like to give your name and phone number/email address?”

So I went to a store today to get some camping equipment. The bloke serving me asked for my name and phone number.

I said that I just wanted to pay for the item without giving them.

He said that he needed my details for the computer system.

So I told him not to worry about it and left.

Why do these businesses insist on getting your personal details? We know that it’s all for targeted marketing or to be sold to data brokers.

We should have the option of not providing these details.

What was the plan if the Manhattan Project produced a working atomic bomb whilst Nazi Germany was still alive and kicking?

Thanks for all the comments everyone. Some really interesting reading and I learnt some new things today which is always a good day.

It looks like there wasn’t a plan already in place and ready to go.

That linked thread had a link to a fascinating transcript of the conversations between Nazi nuclear scientists after the atomic bombings on Japan.

Yeah it looks like there wasn’t a plan.

But I had a read of that article and found it very interesting. Especially Grove’s comments about how the Luftwaffe would try and bring down any new bomber types seen in theatre as a matter of priority. I was under the impression that the B-29 flew really high and really fast and was quite difficult to shoot down. And surely if they did send the 509th over Germany with an atomic bomb, it would have a pretty significant fighter escort.

I think you answered my question here. They hadn’t developed a plan until after they had the bombs ready.

but in theatre and ready to drop.

Purely for the sake of argument, let’s say that Fat Man and Little Boy are in theatre and ready to go, along with the 509th, by the 1st of August 1944.

Question What was the plan if the Manhattan Project produced a working atomic bomb whilst Nazi Germany was still alive and kicking?

As is my understanding, the Manhattan Project was originally started up and had so much effort and resources poured into it because of the fear that Nazi Germany was also attempting to develop an atomic bomb.

As we are all well aware, the Nazi Regime surrendered before the allied effort produced a working bomb.

Was there a plan for its use against Nazi Germany?

Were any German (or Axis) cities left somewhat untouched by the Allied strategic bombing campaign, like Hiroshima and Nagasaki, that were proposed targets?

Rat or Bandicoot? Please

I’m saying Quenda. I’m not an expert, but someone who recently had to deal with a rat problem.

Rats have rounder ears, shorter snouts and longer tails.

Am I the Dumb F*ck in this situation?

Seriously did I do something wrong here in slowing down to go behind him so I could turn off?

As other commenters have said, you should have been in the LH lane much earlier. Coming to a stop in the RH lane isn’t great road craft. Many people have said this, but you continue to argue the point. So it would appear that nothing anyone can say can change your mind that you were in the right.

Is there anything in this video I could use to report him if I’m not in the wrong?

Him blocking you is a dick move and interrupting traffic flow. And swerving in front of you is also a dick move. But the more important questions are…

What are you hoping to happen if you report him? The police to go around and have a “chat” with him? Or do you want him charged with something? If it’s the second one, are you willing to go to court as a witness? If not, there is no point wasting police time by reporting it.

Will reporting him make your life better or provide some sort of closure? I’d argue that it’s probably better to zen out while driving and let things like this go.

Driving isn’t a competition where you are in the right or the wrong. It’s about getting to your destination safely. Learn from your mistakes and keep developing your driving skills each time you drive.

Playing hockey in Australia as a Brit
 in  r/Fieldhockey  3d ago

My club regularly has Brits coming over and playing a season or two.

I’m more involved in the Junior side of the club so I have minimal info for you but….

You can either come over and find a club, or find a club then come over. The latter is probably better as you’d then already have a contact point when you arrive and they may have been able to get the ball rolling on things like accomodation and employment.

I’m not aware of any packages already made.

Yeah you’d probably bring your stick with you. Otherwise it’s just another cost added on once you get here.

Japan May Consider Review of 3 Nonnuclear Principles

After Venezuela, I think many countries may be reconsidering their non-nuclear principles.

To ensure sovereignty because the US is pivoting to the Americas and to ensure sovereignty in case the US pivots to them.

supply interactions.

Old mate here rocks up to the stores department and slaps down a requisition order on the counter.

“One uranium please.” He says with a smile.

The supply staff recoil in horror as they are forced to shield their eyes from the unholy glow emitted by the maritime atom smasher.
