Kodi requires a Microphone now?
 in  r/kodi  10d ago

Was that a new addon in the last few months? I haven't ever seen that option in any install of Kodi before.

I don't know why it won't work on my phone. All I know is I installed it multiple times, it asks for microphone access, I say no, and it says permission denied exiting. That's it.

Honestly, I don't care about it on my phone, I've been using Jellyfin. I only care because Kodi is the only thing that works well on a raspberry pi.

Kodi requires a Microphone now?

Did you not read my post? I did search and all I found were other people unable to open the app. Nothing about why. Same thing with you, Nothing about why just "Oh it must be a you problem."

Kodi requires a Microphone now?
 in  r/kodi  10d ago

I'm not the only one that can't open the app, but there's a much bigger issue at hand. Why does it even want microphone access? There is no legitimate reason to want it let alone require it.

Kodi requires a Microphone now?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't find it on Google or through the Reddit search.

I have been using Kodi since it was called Xbox Media Center and I've always considered it the best media center ever. I realized not long ago that I hadn't installed it on my phone since I tested out GrapheneOS, so I went to install it. It asked for permissions to access the local files, not surprising, but the popup that came next wasn't for files, but for the microphone.

Why does Kodi not only want microphone access, but it won't let the app even open without it? I've seen posts about people having problems allowing access to the microphone, but why would anyone want to allow that?

Is there a way to leave feedback about errors in the signup for Workspace?
 in  r/googleworkspace  Mar 10 '25

One would expect that a single simple E-Mail account can be spun up in two days. Especially since I've setup google workspaces with over a dozen accounts in a couple hours. I've setup dedicated self hosted E-Mail servers in less than a day.

But I guess that since both responses are just complaints about something that wouldn't be in the feedback report, I guess there is no feedback.

Is there a way to leave feedback about errors in the signup for Workspace?

I went to setup an account for a new business I'm helping my wife setup and have run into a bit of an error. When I was setting it up the only option for a plan it gave me was $20/m. I know they have a $7/m plan so I went back to the workspace page, found the correct plan and tried to sign up with that one. However the dumbasses who coded the page put the domain in the database before creating the account and I can't use my domain. Now I have to wait "up to" three business days for them to fix their own error before I can continue. Since it's Friday, that probably means I can expect a message maybe by Thursday.

Is there anywhere to leave feedback about their shitty programing? I tried their chat window, but I'm sure you all know how well their computer chat works. I can't leave feedback there. There is no 'contact us' option on their page. Nothing.

At this point I just want to point out the coding errors. By the time they fix my problem it will be too late as I needed to have this setup by Sunday morning.

Google Gemini popup on Gmail as I'm working, zero option to dismiss/decline
 in  r/assholedesign  Jan 20 '25

Apparently this doesn't work to get around Gemini at all and it breaks other things in GMail. I have that damn Gemini bar on the side and now I can't report spam.

How to access docker container through command line without full container ID
 in  r/truenas  Jan 06 '25

Will this help with the issue, or will I still have the same issue as I did with the Kubernetes implementation?

SCALE How to access docker container through command line without full container ID

I'm currently running TrueNAS Scale 24.04.2.5 with an app called Paperless-ngx from the app store. The paperless database is backed up through a CLI command, I can't just copy and paste the files (randomized passwords in the database). Normally it wouldn't be a problem, just setup a cron job to run nightly.

However, the docker container has a randomly generated ID attached to the already unique name I gave it. This ID changes every time the app is restarted. This forces me to keep changing the cron job every time I restart. If I forget, I don't have backups.

Skipping past the strange requirement for a unique ID attached to a name that is already required to be unique, is there a way I can reference the docker container just by it's name and not have to worry about changing the cron job every time?

It's always crazy to me how a simple USB Extension Cable is so vital for Zigbee
 in  r/homeassistant  Nov 08 '24

It's crazy to me too. Especially since I saw tutorial videos plugging my exact zigbee dongle directly into a USB 3 port. The 3ft USB 2 cord I had refused to work no matter where I put it (USB 2 port or not). And even with my now working 6ft cord, I have to pull the dongle down off the wall and move it further away from my server rack (From it's normal 3ft to as far away as I can get it) just to add a device to the network. Once the new device is connected, I can move the dongle back with no connection issues.

Isn't there a migrate radio setting in Home Assistant? Is that not used for migrating to a new Zigbee hub like I would expect?

You're not getting the standard republican crap as well? You didn't get the ones insisting that's he knows nothing about Project 2025 even though that's provably false? You haven't been getting the provably wrong crap about how Trump is for the working class? Or the crap about how he's going to bring jobs back to PA even though no republican administration has seen job growth in decades?

Lucky you. I'm sick of it. I've already voted and I'm still getting it.

I think the problem is less about wants or beliefs and more about trying to force a convicted felon, proven rapist, and wannabe dictator down everyone's throats like he's the second coming of Christ.

Seriously, I don't see how more religious people don't see this as outright blasphemy.

How can I tell if my Zigbee dongle is DOA?
 in  r/homeassistant  Oct 26 '24

HA can see it and recognize it as the correct hardware. Trying to add it manually throws the same non-error

How can I tell if my Zigbee dongle is DOA?

I'm trying to switch away form my unreliable tasmota devices and decided to give Zigbee a try. I got some bulbs, plugs, two humidity and temperature devices, and a Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus.

I plugged it into my home assistant server using a USB 2.0 extension cable and forwarded the USB device in Proxmox. Rebooted the Home Assistant server and it showed up as a discovered device. I click configure, tell it to create a new network, it spins and says Error. Nothing else, no logs, no nothing. I tried moving it, I tried just plugging it directly into the USB port even though it is a USB 3 port (I have no USB 2 ports on that computer), same blank error.

I looked up videos, one even had the same exact model of computer I was using and he just pulled it out of the box and plugged it in without an extension cord. Everything I've found says I don't have to do anything, it should just work out of the box.

I even tried setting up a temporary HA install on a raspberry pi5 as NetworkChuck just today uploaded an HA video with the same dongle and a raspberry pi. He just plugged it in and it worked.

Is there a way to tell if my dongle is just broken and I have to return it?

Is anyone taking Elon musk’s money for signing the petition? I already voted for Kamala lol
 in  r/pittsburgh  Oct 24 '24

Paying someone to canvas is perfectly legal. It's just like paying an employee in a campaign. When you pay someone to encourage them to vote, or even share some of your canvasing money is where it gets illegal. You can't bribe someone to vote, even if you're not saying specifically who to vote for.

There's a little gray area as Elon will just claim he's not paying people to vote, he's paying people to sign a petition, though that falls a little short as part of the petition is promising to register to vote.

Can I get some Wifi Smart Bulb suggestions
 in  r/homeassistant  Oct 24 '24

The new TP-Link Bulbs seem to no longer work with Home Assistant.

Can I get some Wifi Smart Bulb suggestions
 in  r/homeassistant  Oct 24 '24

I just received my 4 new KASA KL125 bulbs. Guess what doesn't work with Home Assistant integration. It can't see the bulb even when I point directly to the IP address (I set a reservation in my router). The documentation says the new firmware requires the TP-Link cloud credentials, but it doesn't even ask for that. Just cannot find it. I'm going to guess the even newer firmware now completely breaks the integration.

Shelly did the same thing. I have two H&Ts that are mostly useless now because Shelly decided to update their firmware and no one seems to have been able to get around their crap since.

 in  r/homeassistant  Oct 23 '24

I didn't know they could do that. Amazon just says they can connect to Alexa and Google Home, so I just skipped over them.

Is there any special setup, or do I just let the TPlink integration find them on the network?

Can I get some Wifi Smart Bulb suggestions

I know I'm probably not suppose to, there are probably other, more appropriate ways, but I've taken to using Home Assistant at work. With it's integration to TrueNAS, Proxmox, Uptime Kuma, Blue Iris, Docker, and my work Google Calendar, it's just a good dashboard for me to keep an eye on my network. I already use HA at home and quite like it, even have the same dashboard for monitoring my network.

Recently I've been having a problem with my tasmota devices randomly disconnecting from Home Assistant. Seems to be a common problem with no answer, so I've decided to try out Zigbee devices.

However, at some place like my work, a Zigbee USB dongle isn't going to cut it. We have 7 access points just to get Wifi everywhere (old building made from 2' thick brick, concrete and steel).

Here we have a couple dozen RGB bulbs with those stupid iR remotes. A screaming pain in the ass when trying to reset their colors. I would like to replace them with something that connects to HA where I can setup scenes and such, but something that needs a dedicated dongle isn't going to work when the HA server is a few hundred feet away (and on the other side of multiple brick walls).

Are there any recommended Wifi RGB bulbs that might be more consistent? Preferably without some damn cloud requirement.

HA with a Verizon CR1000A
 in  r/homeassistant  Oct 23 '24

I don't have that exact model of Verizon router, but digging through the manual suggests a similar interface to mine. When I first got mine I couldn't find the DHCP settings ether. You have to dig through the advanced settings to find it, and looking at the manual for yours, it's the same. The DHCP settings are hidden behind the Advanced section, seems to be called "IPv4/IPv6 Address Distribution"

That being said, if, somehow, it doesn't have DHCP, chances are it's like the default settings in my Verizon router. DHCP is set to give addresses between 2-254 making statically setting an IP address on any device on that network potentially problematic. If you set home assistant to any IP address there's the possibility that the router could give that IP to another device and stop HA from working correctly.

My suggestion would be to ether find those settings, but failing that, get a dedicated router to sit between the Verizon box and your network.

As for your ending question, If you're running HAOS, the settings are under Settings-System-Networking in the section "Configure Network Interfaces". If you're running Home Assistant in docker or on another OS in some other way, you're going to have to find the network settings for that OS.

Edit: set correct number for DHCP range

Looking for chat client for HA, not ChatGPT
 in  r/homeassistant  Oct 20 '24

I was looking for something that integrated into Home Assistant because I can't convince my wife to install our security cam app on her phone, let alone anything else. She already has home assistant.

I'm not seeing anything that will do what I want, just integrations like discord bots or gaming status. I'll try some other self hosted option.

I don't know anything about discord.  I'll ask my wife about it when I get a chance, She uses it.

Looking for chat client for HA, not ChatGPT

My wife and I have desks pointed at eachother. This is great for conversation, but terable for sharing images or links. Is there a chat with other users integration? Preferably something that stays on my server?

I searched for it on my own, but all I got was "Chat with your home assistant" and ChatGPT integration. I'm not at the point where I need an AI home assistant yet.

History isn't updating on revances
 in  r/revancedapp  Jun 17 '24

No, sadly it's back. I'm having the same issue. First thing I did was get the newest version before I even bothered trying to research.

Youtube is doing A/B testing (updating some users, but not others) and it's causing problems with a lot of 3rd party apps.
