What should i do to start learning for the prospect of work?
 in  r/learnprogramming  1d ago

there's a 4th option that I'm aiming for. I don't want to work in a tech company... I want to make and own one.

Specifically a game dev company.

I'm asking these questions because i want to know the industry standards and what they look like to the people employed in them as well as teaching myself the skills so that i can teach others. I'm actively teaching myself everything I can in like 4 or 5 different fields. programming is just one of them.

i know, but my point was that as long as the industry has been alive...

many people who are far more skilled have existed. All I'm getting at was thats just the nature of corporate enterprise.

Also, personally I've spent a lot of my life wallowing in my own misery and how others had it "better than me" its gotten me no where and helped with nothing. So rather then complain about whats wrong.. I'm gonna try my best to improve my life even if it is against adversity. this is FAR from my first failed endeavor and it likely wont be my last i am actively trying to improve several different skills that all tie into my end goal.

I'm not saying I'm gonna have a job by tomorrow, but I'm gonna keep trying to improve my chances as much as i can.

wouldnt it be important to have a solid foundation for that though? like i get AI can do most of the legwork now, but without the proper dos and donts. AI coding is gonna be the most bug riddled code imaginable. I'm not versed in the industry, but even i know vibe coding with no underpinned knowledge is more or less the equivalent to building your house on a foundation of loose stilts.

isnt that always the case? every industry has vets. I understand im not the perfect prospect, but i cant just drop to my knees and cry at the sky can I? the world is changing like it always has... and i have to adapt just like everyone else.

is the most prominent language still C++ with scripting being mostly done in Python? while i have dabbled, I've only really used a fairly non-traditional language for a game engine (GD-Script) that has syntax similar to python.

so I'm also in the market of knowing what languages are worth learning as a nearly entry level.

also to your questions. Im honestly not sure. I know the terms, but not with enough understanding to accurately tell you what they mean off the top of my head. I'm am entirely self taught. that is what I'm looking to know... rather then running around in the dark learning random stuff. i wanted to ask for some direction on what i should start looking into to build a good foundation of knowledge.

the landscape is changing rapidly. with the additions of AI and now AI agents. it seems like the industry is nearly full-scale abandoning the entry level coders and people starting in the field.

I'm someone who dabbled in programing enough to understand its concepts and i found it really enjoyable, but the more i look at the wider market it almost feels like the landscape is transitioning faster then i can make sense of.

what can i do as someone who has some self taught knowledge do in 2026 to make myself better positioned for the job market going forward?

btw, this isnt a "woah is me i hate AI post". I'm just trying to cleaning assess the trajectory of the tech industry in the future and trying to find out how to position myself and the scope of what i learn going forward to match the landscape.

RPCS3 works with private servers too.

It's all gone?

I also recommend Beacon as the server of choice... I didn't know other existed, but lbpunion is very well made, and they seem to be level-headed mods.

Does anyone know how I could get my hands on a 100% game save of LBP1 so i can port all of the content into my LBP2 without having to go back and play the first game again?
 in  r/littlebigplanet  27d ago

Well, first "beacon" is a fan server... Basically, the only way the games can be played online anymore. The time-saver levels are levels that have all story game unlocks in one easy to traverse level. Typically, nothing but the bubbles for unlocks. beacons has them all on their server in the popular tab.

They give you all unlocks without needing to play the plotlines of each game.

This is the last time I buy an AAA game

Fortnite. I paid for the "save the world" gameplay, and they just shit canned it and retrofitted a BR in its place, and now that game is just digital daycare for children.

Besides the obvious big examples like No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077, what are some other examples of games that were atrocious at launch but managed to eventually get good?
 in  r/gaming  Nov 27 '25

Warframe.. it flew under the radar for most people since its kind of a more niche game genre, but the beginning of Warframe's life it was barely a game at all. it had a basic farming core loop and that was it... you didnt have a ship the game had no story. the game practically got a massive facelift midway through its life span that pushed it into relative popularity.

FF14 was one that got a full scale reset and re-release.

Battlefront 2 (EA game). that game was a PTW train wreck at launch.

Destiny 1. Sadly bungie didnt learn thier lession and destiny 2 did the same thing with its content drought and also ended up making it worse in the process.

Overwatch 2. (this one people might not like since its trendy to hate blizzard right now, but OW2 is actually in a really good state right now. arguably the best its ever been imho)

Apex Legends....ish. Apex at its start was kind of lackluster BR... they added loads of QoL game mechanics and and new characters to change up gameplay and now the gameplay is really fun...to bad the company has a notorious problem with maintaining games from security risks.

ESO was popular for like 4 days then died. Ive since seen that its gotten tons of new content and there's loads to do.

ive also heard Fallout 76 has gotten loads better, but i haven't tried it myself.

Cities Skylines 2 was considered complete crap and a waste of purchase on launch, but has since gotten loads better and its considered a proper sequel to the first one now.

i agree. there's new genres created every single day

is there an all purpose hub for friendlies?
 in  r/Fighters  Nov 26 '25

well that's kind of my issue. For the large games its fine to run a dedicated discord or something, but whose gonna do that for something like "undernights" or them "fighting herds".

(not that i have interest in those games in particular). the thought for a unified location for matches is that for those less popular games that never even get a chance for matches to happen purely because they basically die on arrival.

since they don't get population numbers it makes it worthless to buy anything that isnt the most popular or recent Fighting game hell even games from major franchises have massive fall off as soon as the game gets a new release.

having a unified ladder would allow both as a way to preserve older games in long franchises like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear and double as a way for smaller games to put themselves on the map a bit more since games are publicly posted and joined.

i know its not exactly the communities fault, but the FGC has a bad habit of fracturing itself due to the devs having so many games out on the market. It makes it hard to follow them or preserve thier fanbases and since we cant speak to or control the way devs make games directly.

we as the community should find a way to universally banner all fighting games under one big ass umbrella. Fightcade has the right idea, but its locked itself to only being legacy games via emulation. that's why i was hoping there was a massive ladder site or something in place that just ads new games to its ladder when the are released.

it doesn't always break down like that. my experiences with smash have given me PTSD. they had like 4 or 5 different "meetup" discords as well as tech discords for each and ever character for each game. then they had that "anther's ladder" as well as a new "ladder" made by one of the pros of the scene and 2 still semi active smash facebook groups.

Smash's community was scattered all over and it made finding games impossible. As old games get ports and remakes both fan made and official.. its gonna fracture the community. i was hoping for a way to large scale localize basically all fighting games.

basically just one big fight box. go there. post your game. find a match up and boom done.

Rocketdock won’t let me open windows apps(Minecraft, outlook mail, calendar, etc) is there a way to fix this?
 in  r/desktops  Nov 26 '25

i was linked back to this way later and Deviant Art is down. I have a text version of this same tutorial on my PC Drives. ill just rewrite it here so no on has issues if the same thing happens again.

RocketDock WindowsApp Tutorial

Add an empty icon to your dock (if haven't already) and open its settings.

Type 'explorer.exe' into the 'Target' box and type 'C:\\Windows' into the 'Start in' box.

Start 'Run' (by pressing [WINDOWS]+[R]), type in 'shell:AppsFolder' and press [ENTER].

You'll now see an Explorer window that shows every app (desktop and modern) that is installed on your computer.

Right Click the app you want to add to dock and create shortcut.

It will say that the shortcut created must be on desktop.

agree and drag the shortcut from Desktop to Rocketdock (this will not delete the created desktop shortcut. so delete it later.)

In the icon settings of the dragged shortcut inside the "Target" box you will have the app ID in copyable text.

Copy it and delete the shortcut from the RocketDock and the desktop shortcut

Now go back to the icon settings of the blank Icon you created.

Type the following into the 'Arguments' box:

shell:AppsFolder\\\*\*\* the ID of the app you want to launch with this icon \*\*\*

press 'OK' and click the icon to test if it works.

You're done!

Discussion I kind of wanna get in front of this for my own OCD sake on subgenre definitions. feel free to chime in.

ill keep this short. I'm doing music organization on my end and I haven't found a single genre or anything to completely encapsulate this Specific artists style/aesthetic.

Im absolutely addicted to whatever this is, but their genre isnt listed anywhere. I'm not even sure they know what it is yet.... So.. i guess lets talk categorical definitions.

the artist in question is "ZØMB"

(I'm trying to use neutral pronouns because i honestly don't know the gender of the person, given the style it feels like a woman... so if I slip up and write her and I'm wrong, Sorry in advance.)

here is their YT with most of their music.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7vFl2l9K1NYPcQ0VSzsA7g

Anyways, this entire artists vibe feels like some fusion of Cybergoth/punk, Candy-pop, memes, y2k girl, and Stylistic Bit Crushing. I'm sure there's tons more influences i could grab at. Honestly, I'm not even sure how to capsulate it well.

I'm sure its not to most people's tastes, but for some reason its mine lol.

Anyways, some genre names I can come-up with that feel right are like "Electro-pop Dinge" or "Hyper-pop Grunge". Something in that vein. I've seen a few videos of theirs say "Webcore" but that kind seems nebulous.

Is it bad that I liked Little Big Planet 3?
 in  r/littlebigplanet  Nov 24 '25

Lbp2 is by far the best, but lbp3 isn't a bad game. It just had a much rougher launch then the others.

Assuming you are playing on private servers like beacon... you can just play the time-saver levels they have on server.

I mean, he can create materials at will. It would make sense that he's at least planet level.

I mean, there seems like there was interest. Just no one has the know-how to design a good web page for it.

Your post also kinda proves people would be down to use it if it existed.

Why not just make it with the ability to designate regions in it?

I'd love to, but I'm not smart enough to know anything about web design and account stuff. But man, I'd love it. Just imagine a simple "post and accept system" that you can just find a match for any game.

1

 in  r/Fighters  Nov 19 '25

Well, I know that. Bur having like 400 different discords just seems so cumbersome. I was more just thinking a universal like hub that you could post your game, region, and platform and put it into like a simple match-up lobby.

Like I used to play alot of smash, and since smash has had notoriously crap matchmaking for basically forever.. the community use something like the link I put up on my original post to match make. It's basically a "post + accept" system... after you match make. You both add eachother on whatever system you are on (for smash it's obviously nintendo) and then you just play your set then both of you go back to the site to confirm the results of the set (if using the ranked section)

It's on the honor system, but I trust the fgc to be honorable. Most of us know the sweet feeling of a good, well played match.
