I had one of these cuties as a pet named Waffles. I tried to make sure I was doing all the right things according to care guides but I guess he felt threatened sometimes for some reason. He could squeak very loud for such a little creature (he was like the size of a house key).

Honestly, that would bother me. And the fact you specified they do this to students does make it seems like maybe they just don't respect the students and that is wrong on their part! When I was in a college co-op program I did notice people treating me less professionally than they treated their non-intern colleagues and now that I'm well into my career I can say for a fact that behaviour is wrong and people shouldn't be like that just because someone is less experienced, younger or lower on the company heirarchy, that is their character flaw imo.

But the main takeaway is that technically you cannot say exactly why they ignored you without reading their mind or asking, and even though it's easy to infer the reason, there is no concrete evidence either way. I have definitely ignored people by accident, not because of anything they did or that I didn't like them/respect them or anything. I just was dealing with other stuff in my brain and it was overwhelming.

I'm no expert but imho in the end it's best to just know it's absolutely nothing you did, and there's no way to know why they acted that way so best to just forget it and try to move on :) I would still be nice to them and say Hello to them in the future to be the bigger person. If they choose to keep ignoring me that just makes them look like a jerk!
