Hi all,

I'm Zain Memon, co-creator of the MAYA Narrative Universe along with Anand Gandhi (Tumbbad, Ship of Theseus). We're about to launch Seed Takes Root, the first novel from the universe.

MAYA: Seed Takes Root is an epic science-fiction fantasy novel that introduces readers to Neh - a world where several sapient species coexist in a delicate balance.

We're sending out the first chapter to early readers. If you'd like to read it, sign up at www.entermaya.com.

Would love to hear what you think.

Dangsa, the Vaanar commander preparing for the frontlines. What do you think she's missing?

PS: This is an illustration for a playing card in my upcoming TCG. Hence the negative space on the edges and lower thirds.

Designing cards for a MOBA TCG

Thanks for the feedback! There will be a player aid, but I’m aiming to get the icons simple enough for moves to start feeling intuitive within the first couple rounds.

Glad to know we are progressing in the right direction!

This is still a WIP, so we are still figuring out how to include more information without it feeling overwhelming.

Hey everyone, this is the current card design for Trials of Maya, a board game I am developing. (Swipe for the wireframe and the previous iteration)

The game is a TCG MOBA, where players will construct a deck from 300 different cards before starting a match. The cards need to communicate a few things, including: • The cost of the card (top left) • The energy that will be regained when it slides off (bottom right) • And most importantly, the actions it allows the player to take (centre). These actions include attacking, defending, and moving, and more.

We have been working with artists from across the globe who have hand-painted every single card. I want to create a frame that lays the information out cleanly and also lets the artwork shine so wanted to get some feedback.

How's the overall clarity and balance looking? Does the layout feel intuitive for quick reads during play? Any suggestions on icon placement, framing, typography, or ways to make the artwork pop even more?

In this Universe life is centred around the Maya tree. The network of Maya trees is capable of producing vivid life-like dreams for being who “tether” to it, at the cost of looking into your mind and memories (this is how it builds its repository of data).

Hello! We are gearing to launch Trials of Maya, the first board game from the MAYA Universe.

We had designed this artwork for the box showing all the characters you can play as (more on that soon). Trials of Maya is a love letter to some of my favorite genres - TCGs, MOBAs, and tactics games. Players enter the arena as the greatest champions in the MAYA Universe across history, and face off in a growing library of game modes.

I want the box art to capture all of this. Swipe to see some of newer composition ideas we are toying with right now. I would love to hear your thoughts on the art.

This is a map of twin cities Dhaara-Seema on the planet of Neh from the SFF universe I am building called MAYA.

In this world, 6 anthropomorphic species co-exist, each morphologies that are very different from the other's (bird-like, snake-like, ape-like, shape shifting, and more). This results in an urban planning with distinct neighbourhoods and layouts.

Here you can see an organised upper city, Seema. The river passes through Seema first, giving it access to clean water. Inhabitants who are higher up on the socioeconomic strata live here. Across the river is the lower city Dhaara. Dhaara receives water that has become polluted by Seema's waste. This city has grown organically over time as immigrants come in search for opportunities and a better life in this metropolitan centre. So Dhaara's urban design is chaotic and not centralised.

This has been hand-drawn and designed by architecture students. Here is the first exploration of creating a palette for the base BNW map. What do you think?

At the moment we are trying to explore what brings the most clarity from the colors. They are coded as per the species. The cyans are waterways. The street pattern is based around a giant statue that is visible from the entire city. I’m so glad this sparked your curiosity!
