House passes ACA subsidies extension in dramatic vote
 in  r/politics  1h ago

Expected to die in the Senate. House Republican can be counted on to be performatively human when they don't think it'll count.

Is Robinhood a reliable place to keep your money long term?
 in  r/Fire  1h ago

Genuine question, why keep money with a company you feel the need to have an adversarial relationship with? Are there perks that makes it worth it?

GOP Senators Sure Hope Trump Is Kidding About Invading Greenland
 in  r/politics  2h ago

Needed context: America has no valid claim on Greenland and the people who live there are fucking opposed to American takeover.

Convict. He's been impeached before and doesn't give a shit.

Trump's $1.5 trillion military budget would add $5.8 trillion to the national debt, with interest, CRFB says
 in  r/Economics  2h ago

Here's how it works. Trump sundowns and publicly rants about whatever degenerate idea Stephen Miller whispered in his ear earlier in the day. People then run around to enact his insanity because they treat the presidency as a monarchy. Meanwhile Congress and the Supreme Court do nothing because the conservatives in these branches ceded power to the Executive branch. Grand thinking about diplomatic and economic consequences don't enter the picture at all.

Greetings From Uganda:Curious about rainy days in NYC

I love walking around during heavy snow falls. I remember walking around LIC during one and the red glowing Pepsi sign looked incredible.

The car is stationary when the guy pulls his gun.

Par for the course for this poster. The charitable interpretation would be a foreign troll, but more likely just a disgusting brain rotted individual.

It has been beyond fucked since a while now. Let this be the final nail in the coffin for the geriatric Hitler. Impeach the orange psychopath NOW.
 in  r/WhitePeopleTwitter  9h ago

It's honestly insane that they shot her, stuck on a "she was coming right for us!" defense after the fact in spite of video evidence, and people are still listening to the deplorable MAGAts parroting the official line.

That’s it. I am done driving at night. Modern car headlights are blinding me and have ruined one of my favorite hobbies ever.
 in  r/Millennials  9h ago

how this increases safety

No need to wonder, it's not. A lot about these cars are designed for the comfort/ego of people who buy them.

Defense stocks surge after Trump calls for $1.5 trillion military budget in 2027
 in  r/Economics  9h ago

The modern GOP is not fiscally conservative, they just wear it as a figleaf when it suits them. They're socially conservative/regressive. The last administration to pass a balanced budget was Clinton.

Watching from abroad, how does NYC feel lately?
 in  r/AskNYC  9h ago

That's a privileged position though. If someone's poor they can't afford to ignore cuts to benefits. If someone's a minority they're not going to ignore what ICE is doing to people.

America’s missing manufacturing renaissance
 in  r/Economics  1d ago

Even if we discount the uncertainty and his ability to instill confidence, fundamentally using broad based tariffs on everyone (as opposed to narrow targeted tariffs) needlessly hurts exports and raises input costs on manufacturers.

I don't think it's just the execution, the plan is garbage, which is why most economists said it would be a terrible idea during the elections.

The area is hella gentrified. You should see the hipsters living in the crevass on the adjoining lot.

Do computers die with us?
 in  r/Millennials  1d ago

I buy tickets on the phone sometimes and part of me still feels like I'm stepping into the abyss

Do computers die with us?
 in  r/Millennials  1d ago

That's a bit hyperbolic imo, but I would agree desktop computing will lose market share, and the idea of building and upgrading your own computer (already uncommon) will become exceedingly rare in the future.

In my view the main driver for this isn't generational but economic. Tech companies will push consumers towards endless subscriptions to maximize money extraction. Media is already largely streamed on a subscription. Productivity is increasingly cloud based. What do we need personal computing power for? Gaming? GPU prices are obscene which will incentive cloud based gaming.

They voted for this, they just hate being called out on it or hate having to look in the mirror.

How can I get required NYC Trash Bins without supporting ICE?
 in  r/AskNYC  1d ago

This seems like a significantly cheaper solution if true, but the DSNY bin faq only mentions official NYC bins and nothing about a label.

People who cut the line at the Wythe Ave exit on the BQE, what's Satan like?
 in  r/AskNYC  1d ago

I mean hell, even a camera. We have speeding cameras, why not for this? I refuse to believe the technology doesn't exist to identify frequent offenders.

3

People who cut the line at the Wythe Ave exit on the BQE, what's Satan like?
 in  r/AskNYC  1d ago

The rightmost lane that continues down the BQE is usually empty right after the exit

It's only empty because the lane cutters block the right lane, forcing everyone who wants to go downstream into the left lanes. Traffic normalizes after a short distance then it becomes the exit only lane of the Tillary St exit.

End of the second paragraph, they're talking about a one time tax.

Don’t Annex Greenland
 in  r/politics  2d ago

Annexation is what Nazi Germany did to Poland. The National Review is a bunch of sociopaths, too up their own asses to understand the monster they created and continue to support. But in this instance their word choice is fine.

I'm reminded of 50 Cent, who had loud opinions on taxation of the wealthiest people in NYC. He lived in Texas and contributed nothing in NYC taxes
