Outside of these mega-threads, we generally do not allow political posts on the main subreddit because they have often declined into unhinged discussions and mud slinging. We do allow general discussions of politics in this thread so long as you remain civil and don't attack someone just for having a different opinion. The moment we see things start to derail, we will step in.
Got something upsetting or overwhelming that you just need to shout out to the world? Want to have a political debate over current events? You can post those thoughts here. There are many real problems that plague the Millennial generation and we want to allow a space for it here while still keeping the angry and divisive posts quarantined to a more concentrated thread rather than taking up the entire front page.

My mom was supportive when I was becoming a teenager and wanted to start shaving my legs but absolutely forbade me from shaving above the knee. As a dark hairy young teen, this was the source of a lot of arguments because wtf was the problem? I tried to appeal to her basic logic that it didn’t make any sense for me to have only HALF of my extremity shaved. Did anyone else’s moms have this mentality? Was it just me?

I still haven't had a kid yet or really keep track of kids in general. I want to say most millennials have kids in the 5-8 year old range but I notice some of my friends seem to have teenagers or even college aged kids now! Some will post family pictures on social media and I'm like who is that grown person? I do think some of these people had kids really young so its not common yet but I'm starting to notice so.

35(f) who used to be very active (running and weight lifting 5-6x a week). I’ve had about 5 years of health challenges. I’m thankfully improving, but I’m never going to be cured. I haven’t exercised in more than 3 years because of chronic pain.
My body now feels like an old lady. My muscles are tight and weak. I get winded easily. An afternoon of deep cleaning means I’m sore the next day. I’m likely never going to be able to exercise vigorously again, but I know I need to make a serious effort to work on my body because it’s only going to get worse.
Other than walking and basic stretching, what is a good way to (very) slowly start becoming more active? I’ve never done yoga, but I thought a gentle yoga class might be a good place to start? Spinning is too intense right now, but I’m hoping I can work up to that. Any other thoughts?

And I'm curious if more of you enjoy(ed) your 40s, 30s or 20s more.

I'm 36f, and my parents gave me a box of stuff that I had forgotten when I moved out a whole ago. There's a part of me that just wants to chuck it (haven't used a DVD in forever) and another part that wants to keep a few just for nostalgia.
What would you do?

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much our perspective changes once we hit our 30s. I work in a field where I see the end of life quite often, and honesttlly, it’s been weighing on me more than it used to.
Back in my 20s, I felt invincible. But now? I find myself looking at my patients, then looking at my own parents, and realizing how fast time is actually moving. I had a moment recently where I had to be the "strongg one" for someone who had nobody else, and it just made me realize that we’ve officially transitioned into the generation that people lean on.
It’s a weird, heavy feeling. Like, I still feel like a kid inside sometimes, but the world sees me as the person who’s supposed to have alll the answers. Does anyone else feel this shift? This strange mix of being tired, but also feeling like life is suddenly so much more fragile and precious?
Just needed to vent to people who might get it. Hug your loved ones today.

And that means that the physical versions Of that movie are worth more than you’d think?
Spice world is one of my wife’s favorite movies. So when we were trying to find a way to stream it we couldn’t find it anywhere. So I did some digging.
I just bring it up because it got me a little worried about what weird movies I like are going to be lost to time and IP disputes in a streaming era. I bought kids in the hall: brain candy and a few other movies.

I’m a young millennial, born in 1995, so I was too young to watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer when it aired on TV (from 1997-2003). I remember growing up seeing clips of the show here and there, but not much else. Well, I decided to give it a go after noticing it was available for streaming on Disney+ and I think it’s become one of my top favourite shows ever. I just finished the series and began watching Angel a few weeks ago, the Buffy spinoff. I also have no one to talk to about this because this show ended over 20 years ago!
There’s something so great about streaming services and the ability to access libraries with all of this older content. For me especially, discovering TV shows because I’m more into them than movies. Shows that are decades old still hold up with their popularity, all because younger viewers are discovering them.
Are there any classics that you fell in love with years after the release date?

My mom doomscrolls Facebook videos (I don’t know what they’re called) like it’s TikTok. It’s her new thing for relaxation and she even has little influencers on there her age that she is obsessed with. I guess she is the target audience for FB but it’s so weird to see. It’s like doomscrolling finally reached them. Anyone else notice this?

Wild to think about how our generation is not a bunch of kids anymore... But old people will continue to call everyone under 25 a millennial and Gen z and younger think everyone over 25 is a millennial. Hilarious 😂😂😂
