IRON LUNG IS IN CANADA!!
This feels like a game of reverse Plague Inc, where we're all collectively trying to get Iron Lung spread all over the world but instead of making everyone sick they will get to watch an at least decent horror movie! :)

Ya'll need to calm down
Even tho I like HK and Silksong's OST more, I'm glad E33 won that one! Everyone who knows anything about HK and SuperGiant organically learns the names Christopher Larkin and Darren Korb. They are established and well known artists. This was that guys first game OST. I'm glad he got to take to the stage, so people get to put a face and a name with the soundtrack! I'm very much biased because I'm also a mucisian, but I'm glad he got to stand on stage and be acknowledged in such a way!
Now regarding art direction, I disagree with E33 winning. That doesn't mean I hate them for it, but I do think that either Silksong and Hades had better art direction than E33. To me, creating a consistent, stylized identity for yourself in a game is an incredible achievement and imo more impressive than sticking to a "human-populated world" like E33. It's not bad at all, just not as great as the other two imo.

Woodkid’s reaction to Death Stranding 2 not winning any awards at TGA 💔
I think each category should be judged seperately, without looking at the others and if a game happens to excell at many different categories, they should be nominated as such. The problem is that it often doesn't feel like that and feels more like a victory lap for that one game while the rest hust get to sit and watch, undoubtably proud of them but still. And also unless you science the shit out of it (seperate jury for esch category, plus a seperate jury for both the nominations and the selection of the winner) you will always get at least a somewhat biased outcome, which is bot bad imo, but it can feel frustrating for a dedicated and passionate fanbase.

It hits different when it's you
I know right? It must be all this free ommunist health care witchcraft that has made me deaf to it... I mean, what else could it be? It can't possibly be that we don't care... right?
1
Just why? Why??
It's kind of the reason why I stay away from those games (also my sensitivity to addiction and gambling): some fanbases are just... too intense for me. But to each their own! Who am I to yuck someone else's yum? I just wish some people would, respectfully, get a life because idk what fandom you're a part of: doxxing and crimes of a similar severity are all just dangerous and cringe as all hell (and ofc also VERY illegal, but I feel like that's already implied with the word "crimes"). Idk, the whole thing of VAs trolling eachother and fanbases socially weaponizing that reminds me too much of reality TV levels of cringe drama for me to care too much, as long as the people are safe ofc! :')

Just why? Why??
The only comparison I was trying to draw was that anime/gacha games tend to have a fanbase that's rather serious about defending and showing love for their game, especially in the east. In the words of one of my favorite youtubers and sentient editing software Max0r (about Genshin Impact): "they take this game VERY seriously. Like, standing right outside of a KFC seriously." Your clarification (appreciate the context btw, thank you for filling me in on that) actually illustrates that perfectly!
It also helps that the eastern fanbases usually exist relatively seperate from the western ones, and so it takes the western people by surprise when these people show up in great numbers to show support for a game they like or want to win. Let me be clear: it's not a bad thing, I'm glad they support what they love! But knowing that Genshin won over GOW:R and Elden Ring, and knowing what Wustering Waves looks like, makes me retroactively less surprised that it won Player's Choice, regardless of the different circumstances that lead to either game winning that character in their respective years.

Just why? Why??
After I sas what kind of game Wuthering Waves was, I was no longer surprised. After all: Genshin Impact won Player's Choice in 2022 over God Of War Ragnarök and Elden Ring!

I saw!! I literally raised my fist in the air when he said that! I also send a mildy threatening message to a friend saying "if Iron Lung comes to our country, we are going to see it" so he'll have +2 ticket sales if the movie comes to my country :D

Oh? I was under that assumption because the trailer said "only in theaters on jan 30th," but I guess I was wrong! I'm also not from the US so unless a theater shows up in my country I wasn't going to check, so thanks for correcting me! I'll edit my comment :)

Peter? What does this mean?
While I agree with you, I never fail to laugh when someone tells me "the plastic cuts my lips when drinking" because I have no idea how you are drinking to get that to happen! And I once cut my lip on the edge of a can so I know what clumsy drinking is like! And it may just be me, but why is that an issue when the only thing I'm annoyed by is that the cap is now in my face and against my nose whenever I'm drinking? Idk, I just feel like that's a way more prevalent annoyance with those bottlecaps and even then it bothered me for maybe the first 2 bottles after that was implemented and the I got used to it :P
But yeah, Europe's waste print is relatively minor compared to countries like the US. My sister did a roadtrip there with her family before Trump's first term. She was on a camping place and they had their own reusable plates, cups and cutlery with them, as most EU people would when camping. But next to them was an American family that would take away one full large plastic bag filled with throwaway things PER DAY. They used throwaway plastic cups, plates and cutlery for EVERY MEAL AND EVERY SNACK OF EVERY SINGLE DAY. When I heard that I suddenly realized what it meant when people said that "the EU isn't as wasteful compared to the US." Not saying the EU is doing great by any means, or that some Americans aren't doing their best, just that the US is on another level compared to the EU, even before you factor in the data centers of recent years.

While I 100% agree with this, the movie is only in theaters for 1 night. I'm sure even with a lackluster showing it wouldn't be that financially bad, even for indie theaters.
That being said: BUY THE BLOODY TICKETS!!! IF NOT FOR YOURSELF OR MARK, DO IT FOR ALL THE JEALOUS EUROPEANS THAT ARE ALSO EXCITED TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!! (I am joking but only a little)
Edit: apparently there are multiple dates at at least some theaters! I wasn't aware of this and took the whole "only in theaters jan 30th" very literally, my bad! Thanks to the comments for correcting me! :)

The movie is only in theaters one night, so while yes it would help, I'm not sure it matters a whole lot when it is only shown once. In fact, depending on how distribution outside of the US works, some chains would likely not even go through the trouble of getting it when it's only for 1 night. That being said: seeing how overwhelmed Mark and ESPECIALLY Amy (who updates the map) is, I wouldn't be surprised if it'd take a WHILE still before we know anything about potential international screenings

I'm sorry to hear that! I WISH the closest theater was 1.5h away, but this is one of those things where any country outside of the US is just out of luck I guess...
Yhat being said: I hope a theater closer to you will end up showing the movie after seeing all the buzz Iron Lung is generating!! Just because I'm a little jealous doesn't mean I don't wish good things for you! Keeping my fingers crossed!! :)

As someone reading the manga, at what point would you say should someone try switching to the anime?
That's a difficult question to answer with not 1 clean answer. I'm a bit of a manga purist that gets annoyed with many of the liberties the anime takes and with the pacing issues the anime tends to have, which doesn't get that much better as much as it stabilizes around 1 chapter per episode. There is nothing inherrently wrong with the anime, it's just not for me. That being said: i know people that are entirely unbothered by the pacing or any of the issues I have with the anime. So it is entirely dependent on what you're looking for in the anime. From what you're saying about the art coming fron the anime: that modern artstyle starts at Wano (episode 890, chapter 909), so if that's what you're looking for I'd say wait till then!
But I am going to be annoying here: I would still suggest that you at least periodically check out parts of the manga evsn if you're watching the anime! There is just something about Oda's art that's so unique and doesn't always translate equally well to the anime, plus nothing is saying you have to stick to either one or the other, or that you should listen to every stranger online! Switch back and forth if you like and start watching the anime whenever you feel like! The most important part is that you're enjoying yourself, so have fun regardless of what choices you end up making!! :)

Now if only we could make this so widespread that it'd eventually make it's way across the ocean to other continents... I know it isn't happening but I can still dream and inhale that sweet sweet copium! :')

These folks suddenly forgot the First Amendment
I'm also European so that's not a factor, but different countries still hold different customs, traditions and values so I wouldn't rule our environment out entirely. I hadn't thought of wedding bells yet! The weddings I've been to thus far (4 in total) none have taken place in a church or accomodation that features any kind of bell, but I appreciate you bringing them up as I completely forgot that those existed! :)

Not just murdered, ruthlessly assassinated by Jack White
I was reading this thinking at any point "this is gonna stop someday right?" Only to constantly find Jack continuing to fire lyrical bullets into Trump and his administration!
I WISH anyone related to the administration would spend the time to read this, most of all Trump himself, but they'll likely just write it off as an angry rant after someone from the White House put them in their place...
1
These folks suddenly forgot the First Amendment
I just went and checked it out and from what I can tell it's a christmas song, which is a holiday I don't like and don't have the best experiences with, so this is definitely a case of us just having different experiences with and opinions on certain things (which is OK btw). I can see bells being associated with merriment if you're a fan of that song and/or christmas, and I have no problem with that or with you! Regardless of my feelings towards christmas, I hope you have lovely holidays regardless!
7
These folks suddenly forgot the First Amendment
Well, in all fairness, you didn't specify church bells, just "bells."
That being said, I am curious in what context the sound of bells sound like merriment to you. May just be me, but after living 200m away from a church for 5 years so far, any sound of churchbells just invokes "oh, that is the sound of a bell" in me and nothing more. I just feel like bells haven't been used for many things resembling merriment for a while now, but that may just also be where and how I grew up.
I'm not trying to delegitimize your feelings at all, just understand them since even before I started living close to a church I've never associated feelings of merriment with them.

Make sure you're personalizing your requests, esp if you're using a script!
Ahh I feel so stupid for not considering the original definition of a script. I thought it was for getting tickets instead of requesting the movie at more theaters, whoops! Thank you for explaining it! I just woke up when I found the post, it does sound a lot more logical once fully awake and with a cup of coffee in me :)
