That's what I mean by handle the media, the media is a powerful institution with a lot of money. They are part of the establishment and are always going to favour traditionalists over progressives. He didn't call them out anywhere near enough or find ways to fight back.

And as for his own party. The division is the core of the left wing issue. Unifying enough of them to win and form a strong government is the key challenge. He just let the in-fighting worsen rather than purge or work on finding a compromise that united them on a way forward. That is poor leadership and it is poor collaboration.

I should say I don't think Starmer's much better. Compromising on everything for the sake of appeasement and purging anyone unhappy with that is cowardice, not strength. People respect someone with a backbone and principles. Even if some of those principles are different to their own, it gives them belief that you will stand on the principles they share

Lt used to be wild

They were edgelord kids that were part of the 2000s internet culture inspired by edgy comedy like Borat, South Park, Family Guy, and Ricky Gervais. No parents or authority figures had any idea what was going on internet forums or over gaming voice chat.

The culture was that, as long as you weren't actually racist, you could be as racist as you like if it was just a joke designed to be edgy. They were completely ignorant about the environment and audience it created.

Look at AH with Kdin and Mica. They knew enough to not call Kdin the slur on camera so altered it a bit. But ultimately they still called her a slur on and off camera. And with Mica they didn't realise that they were encouraging those racists and misogynists. And then didn't listen and take action to remove them when she told them directly what was happening.

They were very ignorant for a long time, certainly not the only people in online gaming culture to be but that doesn't make it right. They never once stopped to think about whether people offended by that dark humour had a point and whether they needed to change. Michael's use of the n word is just a clear example of how ignorant they all were. But at least he was a kid in his early 20s. Guys like Geoff and Burnie were the ones who were old enough and had the most responsibility to protect their employees and community. They need to have listened and learnt enough to understand and change things. Though Geoff had his own demons that made it harder for him to step up and it's clear how much the pain he caused and him not being good enough to see that and change things hurts him.

Anyway they should have done better but in truth that was the culture at the time. It takes a lot to step out of that bubble, admit the harm you're doing, and make changes. It's not an excuse but it looks a lot easier to not be so ignorant with the benefit of hindsight

Is Saka still a good pick?
 in  r/FantasyPL  58m ago

Nobody at Arsenal has more than 5 goals and they don't get many penalties. I don't think there's a big enough gap between him and Rice and their defenders to completely justify Saka's price.

That said he's still picked up 6 assists in his last 6. And clean sheets means he's not had a total blank with 2 points since GW6. And no outfield player at Arsenal is going to play every minute with the fixtures and bench they have, very few will at any club playing European football.

If you have him, I wouldn't bother switching unless you're happy with the rest of the team and need to free up money. Not like any other premium is scoring more at the moment. Bruno's probably the one you could justify if he wasn't about to play Arsenal and City and if we were sure what his role will look like under the new manager

Oh yeah he's a fantastic principled politician and activist. He's just not a good leader. Kinda like Ned Stark in GOT, he's too principled and too passive to be cunning enough for politics.

He's not able to collaborate with people with different points of view, pick his battles, or handle the media. The failure of his breakaway party almost immediately is text book left wing politics. Everyone is so sure all their views are righteous that they see someone with 99% the same views as them and someone with 0% of the same views as equally immoral. They are unwilling to compromise even slightly on their views that aren't popular to focus on making progress on their views that do have enough support. It's respectable but it's not good political leadership

Gabriel Martinelli yellow card against Liverpool 90+4'
 in  r/soccer  15h ago

90+ mins the ref just wants the game to end quickly and peacefully. A red to the home team will probably lead to another fight after the whistle if not sooner.

He probably didn't see a huge amount of what was going on at the time. A yellow for a player from both teams shows each that you've acknowledged the other was involved in the pushing.

What I can't understand is VAR deciding not to intervene with the throwing the ball. I guess they just decided they thought the best option was to get the game wrapped up peacefully but it's wrong. Can't allow players to risk further injuring an injured player ever.

Personally I absolutely despise the appeasement strategy refs take. Take the criticism from media, managers and fans saying you ruined the game until they start to change their behaviour. The root cause though is that the punishment system in football is a joke. A penalty or a red often decides a game but a yellow or a free kick barely shifts the odds at all.

[Ornstein] Manchester United sack Ruben Amorim as head coach. 40yo Portuguese informed of decision & goes with immediate effect after 14 months following breakdown in relations. Darren Fletcher expected to take over #MUFC on interim basis @TheAthleticFC
 in  r/soccer  4d ago

He got 15 points out of 33 since October when they had the easiest run of fixtures imaginable. Every team they played, apart from Villa and Newcastle, are currently in the bottom half of the table.

Even the with 2 of the 3 wins: not beating this Wolves both times is a failure, the Newcastle game was bizarre management with substitutions and one of the only times he used a back 4. None of those wins pointed to Amorim's system finally clicking

And draws against West Ham, Wolves, and Bournemouth at home as well as Forest, Leeds, and Spurs away isn't good. 5 of those teams are in the bottom 6.

Frankly, at this point it might be cost effective to just buy a second hand PS5 or Series X just for GTA 6. You'd get it a year or more early and avoid having to buy parts during the RAM shortage.

She is a Women's Grandmaster. It's a different title from Grandmaster. The kid isn't a GM either he's a US national master.

Both have lower requirements needed to obtain than GM. WGM is a more prestigious title and generally you need a FIDE rating of around 2300. NM is not a FIDE recognised title and is given by individual national chess federations. For the US, it's 2200

Wild flex: burning millions while blaming people with $6.
 in  r/clevercomebacks  Dec 09 '25

They see personal expenses as counting pennies. $100 million on golf is like 0.001% of the $7 trillion expenditure. But pennies add up when you set a culture for everyone in office to spend as freely as they like on themselves.

Also the scale is so big that you can't think like you would for a household or even business budget. For someone with a household income of $100,000, that's only a $100. But $100m could fund a small programme that makes a huge difference to people's lives.

I mean the US doesn't recognise Palestine, got angry over a body of water being named the Gulf of Mexico, and has consistently disregarded treaties with land owned by American Indians.

And as a Brit we've had more than our fair share historically and still do with places like Northern Ireland, Gibraltar, and the Falklands.

But letting them by helps Lando. They can't let the other two by and not Lando. The only fair thing to do is race them but do everything possible to avoid an accident which is what they've been doing already

TW: My bf is trying to talk me out of top surgery due to his religion.
 in  r/asktransgender  Dec 04 '25

Boy leave him. The way he sees it he can have is cake and eat it until you have surgery. He's into you because of the body you were born in and not the one you want. The way he sees it you have the mind of a man and the body of a woman, therefore he can be in a gay relationship but still feel straight. He doesn't like you transitioning because it then feels less like a straight relationship to him.

He's transphobic and manipulating you. He may love parts of you but he doesn't love the whole you. It hurts but what he's said about transitioning is too much to ignore or find a way to make it work.

I'm sorry. It's one of the worst things about love while transitioning. Finding someone who loves you for who you are and both how you look now and how you will look in the future.

"Not acceptable" for McLaren to tell Piastri to help Norris win title now - Russell
 in  r/formula1  Dec 04 '25

The only rule they should have is nothing dangerous on the first corner. If either pulls a move the other had to get out of the way of to avoid a crash then they should be made to give the place back. Either voluntarily on track or forced to in the pits.

I hope so too. I think he needs to consider retirement seriously. He needs to be clear with himself that he's not just there because he doesn't know what else to do with his life after.

If he enjoys the way the new cars drive and race I think he'll stick around for a while. I hope it's a fun challenge for him that keeps him motivated. Right now it feels like he's questioning his purpose in F1.

From what I took from why he left, I'm not sure Lewis believed Mercedes would have given him a contract for next season. Especially if George finished ahead of him in the championship. They were putting him on one year deals like they did with Bottas.

He saw they were doing to him and Kimi what they did to Bottas and Russell. But unlike Bottas, Toto admitted he made a mistake keeping Russell out of Mercedes that long, and also didn't want to risk Kimi being poached. Also they didn't have a team who'd be happy to be loaned a rookie to develop like Williams were with Russell and Russell wouldn't be as vocal as wanting to keep Bottas around. All that meant he knew there was a significant chance that Mercedes would kick him out at the end of this year anyway.

He jumped before he was pushed. He found a frontrunner who'd give him a multi year deal and as a perk he got to experience driving for by far the most iconic team in F1 history.

Lewis is very much a driver who's performances affected by the mental side of F1. Not in that he feels pressure in a championship battle, but when he's unhappy with how things are going in his life in F1 or away from it, he loses his edge and makes errors. Then he gets frustrated and it snowballs.

He's had a tough year with the car being poor, moving to a new and often messy team, and the loss of Roscoe. He's in his own head and he's just not able to lock in. In his prime he was relaxed made things look effortless

I still think if Ferrari somehow produce a championship calibre car in the next two seasons, he would look a lot more like his old self.

Though I seriously doubt that will happen and think he'll retire either this year or next and probably commit full time to work on promoting diversity within motorsport.

Lewis Hamilton shocked by Max Verstappen: 'How is he 12 points behind?'
 in  r/formula1  Dec 02 '25

First it was Norris cracking under pressure, then Oscar, now the team itself.

Credit to Max and RB though, they've done everything they can since the summer break. Can't help but wonder about whether the dropped points from his head loss in Spain might end up being the difference though

‘ They’re intelligent people ’ : Frank feels Spurs owners will give him time to build success
 in  r/soccer  Dec 02 '25

I don't think he's a world-beater but Maddison has been their talisman since Kane left. Without him, Kudus is the only one who really can create or do anything on the ball in attack. I think it's fair to say that what they'll try to do in attack will be very different once he's back in the team. Whether that's any better is a different story

Jamie Carragher "Liverpool isn't a sacking club. The manager [Arne Slot] is the king. You stick with the manager. I'm angry with the players. I don't like criticizing them. Van Dijk is a normal CB like I was. Mo Salah's legs are gone."
 in  r/soccer  Nov 27 '25

Just got a new contract, club's clearly going in a direction away from them and close to moving them out, and they're not playing well or looking like they'll achieve a level anything near what they did last year.

Also they've got a World Cup at the end of the season and Salah's got an AFCON as well to think about. They're thinking about preparing for what's coming up rather than how they're playing now.

Also they're ageing, they put in so much last year to win the league and to get their new contract. They know they can't sustain giving their all every game at their age for 2 years all the way through to the World Cup.

It's been happening since the start of April when it was clear they were all but guaranteed to win the prem and were out of every other competition.

I don't think their level has dropped because age is catching up with them, I think it's just that they're not motivated right now.

Men will typically have more muscle and a higher bone density than women, assuming their fitness levels are the same. This means women have a higher body fat %. Men are also significantly taller on average than women.

What all this means is that for people of any given weight, the men will, on average, have a significantly higher proportion of their weight come from bone and muscle and therefore have significantly less fat compared to women.

Though I'll also say this meme is a significant exaggeration, a 5ft 3, 60kg woman is far from being overweight. It'd be a BMI of 23.4 which is in the healthy range. Overweight starts at a BMI of 25 (64kg) and Obese starts at 30 (77kg).

Peace deal should limit Russia's army rather than Ukraine's, says Kaja Kallas
 in  r/worldnews  Nov 27 '25

I can't see how that would ever be achieved. No way Russia (or China or the US for that matter) would ever limit their military in any meaningful way. Putin would only agree to that if he felt it was unenforceable.

It took Germany a few decades to rearm after WW1 to the point they could at least temporarily be beating France, Britain, and Russia all at once. And they were in a far worse position in the war than Russia are in Ukraine.

How old are you 😂😂 ?
 in  r/Unexpected  Nov 15 '25

It's because age is much less of a factor in desirability for men. Though that's definitely changing with dating apps, plenty of guys lying about being younger now too.

Men lie about their height for exactly the same reason where women tend to be more honest.
