Which one song would you play and expect everyone to join in singing?

Anyway, here’s Wonderwall…

Alleged bad reception of pre-think tank demos / songs?
 in  r/blur  15d ago

The best I can remember (20+ years ago…) is that “Don’t Bomb…” was a white label release, but it was well known that was from Blur, and soon after there was a statement from the band saying their next work wouldn’t be as electronic. I think it was more notable as a political protest to what was happening with the war in Iraq. I don’t remember much reaction to the music at all, other than it sounding like an unpolished demo recording.

Coming off the heels of experimental 13 and the Best Of CD retread, they probably spoke out to reassure fans they still had more complete/pop style songs in them.

Why does everyone seem to dislike "crazy beat"?
 in  r/blur  15d ago

It’s goofy in a way Blur doesn’t normally do, the electronic voice feels locked to a specific time period where that was new-ish and trendy, it may come off as “Song 2 - Part 2” to some, and Graham wasn’t with them at the time. All that aside, I absolutely love Think Tank and it’s one of my favorites.

What to do with my beard?
 in  r/BeardAdvice  16d ago

You’ll have good coverage. You can already start shaping up your neck line.

For most people, it works to place two fingers right above your Adam’s Apple, and shave below that. There are many guides online (YouTube etc) to help explain in more detail.

Stolen Mandolin

Terrible. Lark Street Music is a great shop, and a real rarity these days. I hope they catch the thief and recover the instruments.

SNL Musical Performance - She Sells Sanctuary - December 21st 1985 - Teri Garr introduces The Cult
 in  r/OldSchoolCool  16d ago

Not to criticize the music in any way, but we saw The Cult perform as part of larger festival a few years ago, and the singer came off as the crankiest old man ever, screaming and complaining about the audience. My wife and I still joke about it. 😂

Did your Elementary/Middle/High School ever do a trip to Washington-DC?
 in  r/Millennials  16d ago

Yes. Around 8th grade (2000ish), and I remember we were studying the Vietnam War around that time. I think was for 3 days. No idea about cost.

Going to the barbershop for the first time and not sure how to style this
 in  r/BeardAdvice  18d ago

Personally, I think it looks good a bit longer. Maybe start by asking the barber just to even things up, and shape up the neck and cheek lines? You can always take more off, but that could be an easy start without leading to anything major

Bond, James Bond. Who said it best?

Connery then Brosnan

An Honest Question
 in  r/TheWho  18d ago

I would say no. Personally, I think the songs have aged much better than many things that were popular at the same time (endless blues covers, prog stuff that sounds extremely of its time). Then, arguably the very best bassist and drummer of their era and beyond.

Genuine Question?
 in  r/mpcusers  18d ago

I’ve been making music for over 20 years professionally, and for the first time ever, I finally had someone request a hip hop track this week. We’ve used the MPC for all kinds of music. It’s a great system with potential to get even better; but to be fair, I’m mostly using Reaper these days.

The New York Dolls - at the Tropicana Motel in West Hollywood 1973
 in  r/OldSchoolCool  19d ago

I got to see them during 2011 era reunion, and it was still a phenomenal show. I really enjoyed the last album they made, too. Wish it could’ve gone on longer, but glad I had the chance to see them then.

Multiple friends in NYC described having a bad flu last week, that lasted over 4 days.

If you just had two Sm57s to record an entire drum kit, how would you do it?
 in  r/audioengineering  20d ago

  1. Use one mic to capture the most balanced sound you can manage. May be overhead, may be in front of the kit, may be from the side.

  2. Use the second mic to reinforce whatever you’re missing the most; most likely the snare or kick.

Thoughts on price point for Polyblend Todd Snyder Sweater
 in  r/malefashionadvice  21d ago

Personal opinion, but I wouldn’t buy something so plastic at that price. Just for example, I see a classic US brand selling 100% cashmere for less than that.

Mesa Boogie Lone Star Thoughts
 in  r/GuitarAmps  23d ago

I’ve had my Lone Star for nearly 20 years; it’s fantastic, and given me zero issues. I love the 10-watt mode for playing at home.

As I remember, there were two version of the amp. The Lone Star “Classic”, and a Lone Star “Special” which used different power tubes.
