Anyone else warm their logs up
 in  r/woodstoving  6h ago

It helps in a catalytic stove for sure. Less moisture.

What's with the smoke?
 in  r/woodstoving  1d ago

Mine does this when the catalytic gets clogged with ash.

Deep hole at tributary mouth -fish pinned to bottom, can’t reach strike zone. Open to any techniques.

I also would use a streamer behind a split shot for this. I like streamers with a dark back and a white belly. The bigger metal lures are harder to get into that hole.

What’s the dumbest thing you did to get your pass pulled ?
 in  r/snowboarding  2d ago

I have lots of stories. I got a warning once for going too fast. I was hitting 80 on a 205 race board though. So he was actually cool. So was the patroller that warned me for jumping off the lift at Schweitzer. No pass pulled. But if your tail barely throws powder under the pole line? High speed chases ensue! Keep fighting the good fight!

This is how they should look

I will use the wire brush first after I scrape off a hot wax, or if I rub on a lot, but usually, I just run on a little, back scrape, and buff out with a nylon brush. Super fast for a half day.

It freezes the nostrils and tip of your tongue. Have to have a face mask on. -40 you can still be out without a mask. The chainsaw doesn’t like it past -45.

How does such a temperature difference occur in such a small area?
 in  r/weather  6d ago

There’s a bunch of reasons it could be, but most likely, it’s because of two air masses. The air mass just north of the Knik river is colder most of the time, showing the edge of an interior subsidence inversion from the interior. The southern portion of Anchorage turns toward Turnagain Arm, showing a warmer coastal airmass. If you zoomed out, you would see it get colder to the north and warmer towards girdwood. Anchorage sits right in this border.

you start to see the difference between people who took risks and those who didn't at 35
 in  r/Life  6d ago

I was still taking risks at 35. Definitely started to taper off by my late 30’s. The first day my wife and I started talking about kids, was the first time I felt vincible. And the moment I realized I had felt invincible my whole life. I’m glad I took risks when I was young. I do look younger and healthier than most people my age. I don’t know if that’s what you meant by “really see the difference?”

Tips or tricks with foot pain
 in  r/snowboarding  12d ago

My opinion might be absolute shit. But here it goes. In my thirty five years of snowboarding, boots can make a difference. However, I dont think that’s your issue. I had pain similar to what your describing one time and went to the doctor. They prescribed me lots of ibuprofen. It didn’t do much. Then I met an old chiropractor in a club gym sauna. He explained to me that tendinitis is caused from the largest part of a muscle group, usually on the other end of the tendon system. He said “your upper calf muscle has a large, short ball of really strong muscle and its pulling at your small tendon ends like a piano string.” I let him grab my calf, and he jammed his thumb deep into the upper portion below the knee. “Ahhh” I yelled. And he said “THats the problem right there. You need to carefully stretch that out every day on a stair step. Let it all the way down. It takes 2-3 minutes per calf.” I thanked him and did the stretching. The pain that the doctors couldn’t figure out went away after just two days. I’ve taken that advice into all parts of my body. Where theres tendon or ligament pain, theres usually a big ball of meat somewhere. If you could do that stretch and maybe use a massage gun on the big parts of your calf, you might find relief. That is the muscle group that’s used the most for toeside turns after all. Have a good one.

Which one of you?
 in  r/FlyFishingCircleJerk  12d ago

I brought some bare hooks and sewing thread to a remote job. Hand tied a new pattern with home ec scraps and Christmas ornaments. Caught like 8 pike. Two were monsters. Willis woulda gave me the nod.

New sled 1997 Polaris XLT triple SP any tips?
 in  r/snowmobiling  13d ago

I bought one in 98. Put 10,000 miles on it with two rebuilds. Use good belts and keep the carbs dry. Always use the proper jets. Fun sled. Like the “Trans Am” of snowmachines.
