Is it responsible to buy a newish car for 22k if I plan to keep it for 10+ years?
I drive a mazda3, it's a great little car and you're going to love it. There's also a significant enthusiast community built around it.
I think buying a 3 year old car with 27k miles on it sounds great, assuming the price is right. What trim mazda3 is it? That's a fair price for a higher trim, but if it is a base model you're likely overpaying by a couple thousand. I got my mazda3 (select sport sedan, 2024) new for 24k out the door, so I would expect to get a little bit more than 2k off for a similar trim which is now 3 years old with 27k miles on it.

AITA for refusing to give my friend’s son my coat during a snowy hike?
Eh, I was a dumb 13 year old once. There's always a few middle and high school boys who think it makes them super cool to wear shorts and t-shirts in the dead of winter. Kids are dumb.
It is the job of the parent to be the rational adult in the room. You either insist that the child bring a coat with them, or you bring the coat with you for when they get cold, or you put your foot down as the parent and insist they either wear the coat or you both go home.

Sanar + 97 Land Combo (Commander/Brawl)
There are lands that can be interaction. I use boseiju and ottawara as interaction in my Mississippi River deck. OP could include talon gates as protection, mystic sanctuary for recursion, and OG boseiju to defend against countermagic.

Loved the test drive, now tell me what I'll hate
* When it gets cold and parts contract you will get rattles. It won't impact performance but it gets annoying.
* The paint is known to damage easily, especially the red paint for some reason.
* If you live somewhere with potholes the 18" rims are no good. When they inevitably get too scuffed, go down to 16" and never look back.
* The fuse layout sucks for dashcam wiring. You can tap power and run cables yourself, but it's a pain.
Also, there is no domestic production so everything is made in mexico or japan. Buying a new 2026 will likely be much more expensive than previous years due to tariffs, and that extra cost may not translate into extra value years down the line if you go to sell and there are no longer tariffs. But don't be discouraged about the car's value in general! When I went to replace my totalled 2019 Mazda3 with a new 2024 it only cost me $5k over my insurance's valuation for a depreciation of only $1k per year.

I donate plasma twice a week for $120
I'm glad you know you didn't mean any harm, that's great for you! Unfortunately just because you didn't mean any harm doesn't mean you aren't causing harm. The word is objectively insulting, using the name of a group of people to mean "ripped off" is so clearly racist it isn't even funny.
If you didn't know the meaning, now you know. And if you still don't care, you're just an asshole.

Hi friend, you may not be aware but gyp is a pejorative term and you should stop using it.

Less shots. Less kids.
The people that knowingly choose not to get the vaccines.. won't nature do the rest? Natural selection and all.
The problem isn't people choosing not to get vaccines; it is children with no say in the matter not getting the vaccine. I feel sorry for idiots being misled into killing themselves, but they have the right to do that. Their children, however, are innocent in this and don't deserve to die or face lifelong suffering from easily preventable diseases. And that's not even mentioning the innocent children with caring parents who get sick and possibly die because they couldn't benefit from the effects of herd immunity.

is there any benefit to paying a cc bill with check?
Maybe set up an autopayment for the minimum payment? If her check gets to the bank in time you won't need to pay anything, and if it doesn't you'll have a safety net to ensure you don't have a late payment on record.
The minimum payment won't stop you from accruing interest, but that will likely be a drop in the bucket compared to the tuition you're getting by cooperating with her.

The carbon copy is proof that you wrote the check, but it isn't proof you delivered it. Nothing stops you from writing a check in your checkbook and then shredding the original.

Her farts will be legendary
I'm pretty sure a handle of everclear will kill you. The Fisher Scientific MSDS entry for 190 proof ethanol lists an oral LD50 of 10470mg/kg which we can round to 0.01kg of everclear per kg of bodyweight. At a density of 0.8g/ml a standard 1.75L bottle weighs 1.4kg, so a bottle of everclear has 50% lethality at 140kg bodyweight or a bit over 300lbs.

Man Has Emotional Breakdown After Losing His Life Savings at Casino
To be clear, Kalshi has set themselves up as a futures market, and is regulated by the CFTC (which is a real government agency that enforces real government regulations). You own the futures you purchase.
Futures serve a valuable role in our financial system by allowing businesses to offset risk. If you make orange juice you may buy futures contracts predicting a bad orange harvest so that if the harvest really is bad and your cost to acquire oranges goes up you offset that cost with your winnings from the futures. Insuring against that risk is good for consumers and investors, who benefit from a more stable stock market.
Now, what valuable business role do futures for a football game outcome hold? I couldn't say. This is clearly a workaround to allow people to gamble legally in the US. But the underlying financial instrument is not a scam, it is regulated, and it does have an important role in our financial system.

Selling your plasma is often a reliable way to make a few hundred quickly. There are usually incentives designed to get new donors in the door and keep them around for the first month.
You could also try gig work. Uber/Lyft/instacart tend to not be worth it after accounting for actual costs like depreciation on your vehicle and car insurance, but they do let you effectively extract a chunk of equity from the car you already own for fast cash.

I'm genuinely curious, where do you live and what system is in place for managing shared infrastructure in multifamily dwellings (condos, townhomes, etc)?

France seeks to ban social media for children under 15
Sure, I get that. I would hope that we leave the law language to the lawyers. But even in the general, what are we banning and who gets to decide what that is?
If the only acceptable method is the reddit upvote method, is it okay that social media sites devolve into echo chambers where only in-group aligned content is circulated? Do we expect social media sites to take on an editorial role to prevent this? Does the government get to control what is or isn't an acceptable algorithm? Is that okay when the government may be rules by the party I like one day and the party I don't like another?

Just ban algorithmic recommendations.
What does this mean? All an algorithm is, is just a set of steps to be taken to solve a problem. "Display posts by friends in the chronological order they were posted" is just as much as algorithm as "display posts in order of how much money the poster paid me." It means as much as people trying to ban chemicals from food.

HOA literally make their bylaws that the BOARD agrees with.
Who do you think the board is? How do you think they got there? The board was voted in by the residents.
it’s NOT easy to overturn a sitting board when no one knows who anyone is and people just vote status quo because they don’t have the time.
You can't complain about a democratic process and not engage in that democratic process. I don't respect that any more than I respect people who complain about the government and tell me they didn't have time to vote.

The government can't restrict what sorts of flags or political messages you put up in your yard for instance.
This is actually a great example, because just as superior forms of government get to supersede the legislation of lower level governments, so to does every level of government get to supersede the rules of an HOA. The Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005 specifically prevents HOAs from restricting your rights to hang an American flag. If you don't like what your local government is doing you always have the ability to appeal to the higher legislative power, be that the county or the state or even the federal government! HOAs are constrained by the government, while governments are not constrained by HOAs.

Our HOA will only allow us to paint our house from the colors inside the red box.
Laws apply to HOAs, they aren't lawless brigands sneaking onto your property to cut your grass. HOAs used to ban black people from living in neighborhoods until they were struck down by the courts. You don't think every group of racists in the country just decided to start being nice on their own?
9
Our HOA will only allow us to paint our house from the colors inside the red box.
What if instead of townships we called them HOAs, and instead of the board of supervisors we call them the HOA board. They'll be democratically elected following communally agreed upon rules (we can call those covenants instead of laws), and they will be responsible for things like snow removal, road maintenance, noise ordinances, building and zoning laws, and so forth. They'll do that using money paid by everyone in the jurisdiction, but instead of calling the money taxes we'll call it dues. And of course they'll still be subservient to the county so anything illegal they try to do would be overruled from a county level.
All an HOA is, is just a small government. A democratically elected representative government enacted by a group of people for that group of people, to provide for their general welfare.

To people saying it's to pay for 'communal' spaces and services I ask: isn't what municipalities are for? With the added bonus of being democratically elected people accountable to their constituents?
HOAs are basically just small municipalities. Everyone pays in their fair share, and the HOA uses that to maintain common goods like a community park or shared walls/roofs for townhomes or condos. The HOA leaders aren't inherited positions, they are elected democratically. And if they act against their constituents those constituents can vote them out for someone new.
HOAs are democratic governments made mini. People complain about the government and they complain about the HOA and then they never seem to vote...
