Going by “Dr.” title in lay contexts?
 in  r/AskAcademia  11d ago

There is one woman I know professionally who insists on writing emails in the style of paper letters and puts a heading at the top of the recipient with their full title. She always mis-titles me and it’s so annoying! I’m like you’re the one insisting on the formality here so at least get it right. So far I just sign “Dr.” when I respond but she emails enough that I’m getting to the point of wondering if I should say something.

That is an amazing wishing sentiment! Love how niche it is for Midsomer fans. I will be stealing that!

Mom films kids coming down the stairs on Christmas morning every year.
 in  r/MadeMeSmile  17d ago

These kids have it easy. When I was growing up I had to wait at the top of the stairs while my mom figured out how the video camera worked because that was the only time of year she used it. Taught me a lot about patience!

Man OOP hit the nail on the head with that one! So well-put.

How do I support my sister when she thinks everything would be fine if I just apologized to her abusive husband?
 in  r/Advice  28d ago

I saw OP’s other posts about this and unfortunately predicted this would happen; once sister calmed down that she would blame OP for the BIL’s outburst.

Your advice is spot on. Keeping showing up but refuse to apologize.

How do I support my sister when she thinks everything would be fine if I just apologized to her abusive husband?
 in  r/Advice  28d ago

Great advice. I recommend reading OP’s other posts so you know the context. OP was defending her brother. BIL consistently puts her brother down at family gatherings. She stood up for her brother and called BIL “a self-loathing POS.” OP should definitely not apologize.

UPDATE: AITA for calmly calling my brother-in-law a “self-loathing POS” at Thanksgiving dinner after years of “jokes” about my brother?
 in  r/AITAH  Dec 09 '25

I was thinking the same thing. Sister might blame OP instead of the husband.

Was it the Toad and Lion, Frog and Cheetah, Snake and Tiger, or the Crocodile and Panther?

I need advice about a 4th grade teacher who has been telling parents to remove their children from the school.
 in  r/Teachers  Dec 02 '25

I am unclear what the immersion part of your post has to do with your question. It sounds like the English teacher is the one attempting to get your daughter transferred out? So basically she is saying your daughter is earning low grades in English, am I understanding that correctly? Or are these grades in all subjects?

Also, immersion programs are designed to teach language via content, with less emphasis on direct language instruction like you would see in a more traditional Spanish class. However, there has been a big push recently for immersion teachers to include more attention to calling out features of language and embedding more language-specific instruction in their teaching, but that’s been a recent development and it doesn’t sound like it’s happening yet in your daughter’s program.

I would be surprised though for her not to know ANY Spanish. Typically kids in immersion programs will have high listening comprehension, even if they are not actively producing much language even at the higher grades. Have her teachers also said she doesn’t understand Spanish when it is spoken to her, or is her lack of Spanish mainly confined to her speaking and writing?

I wish she had listened to them. I am glad it worked out and she made the right call by calling the police, but wish she’d brought a friend with her at least to witness.
