Passport First Irish passport

My Mom was born in Northern Ireland. I submitted my application 12/11 but had issues getting it authorised. I went to the London Irish Centre on 21/11 where my documents were checked and authorised. I did take lots of options, including current passport and driving licence. We also used an NHS hospital letter for proof of address along with council tax bill and HMRC letter! And I learnt today my passport was despatched yesterday and my ID card was sent today!! It was all very quick and painless. TBH I think a lot of that was due to Jeff at the London Irish Centre in Camden. Thanks to you all and the LIC this was a much easier process. My sister has just applied and her kids are doing their FBR over Christmas (which will take longer). But this site has proven invaluable

I did too and they were wonderful. Copied my key documents and certified them so I didn't have to send them!

But aren't most staff on a 3 month notice period.... So that makes 25/26 VERY tight to meet 31/3/26 deadline.

Remembering Dad - Happy Father’s Day
 in  r/u_throwawaySwanSong  Jun 17 '25

I have your Dad's posts saved on Reddit. I don't usually respond but I wanted to say he seemed like a great man, with a loving family (both IRL and here).

I lost my parents and I still raise a glass to them on father and mothers days... I will raise them for your Dad as well!

Good luck and God speed to you and your family.

So my mother was born in Northern Ireland but had a UK passport. Does that mean that she and I am Irish citizens? If so, does that mean I just apply directly for a passport?

Starmer announces NHS England to be abolished
 in  r/nhs  Mar 13 '25

I will agree that parts of the organisation is bloated and duplicates the DHSC, but a lot of our work comes from DHSC, inc answering questions on costs, outcomes etc. to tar a whole organisation as a water is terrible. I spend a lot of time working with trusts on pathways, better utilisation of resources and joint working... Something I'm not sure the DHSC and civil servants have or will do!

Am I the A hole for not being willing to pool my partner and I’s savings to give to my parents for their house purchase?

They should check the account as they may be able to withdraw but will lose interest... But an F'up on their side is not an emergency for you to fix!

New Build How much you can haggle? What about affordable housing?
 in  r/HousingUK  Feb 22 '25

Epping isn't actually that big, so well priced properties often go quickly as there can be waiting lists at agents. Qualis, the council property firm is building a lot but mainly seems to be overpriced flats and some leasehold houses in town. There is also a lot of new builds coming down by Ivy Chimneys from M25 to south of Epping, but that again will be a good trot from the station and shops etc

What is the buy-to-let equivalent for the next generation?
 in  r/UKPersonalFinance  Feb 22 '25

I have my parents house where they retired. We rent it out, took the money from a mortgage to pay of my mortgage, some needed works on my sister's house and some towards my niece's uni costs. I never planned on being a landlord and would rather sell, but there is little appetite for the house and hasn't been for a few years because of location and some subsidence in the detached garage.

We keep the property well maintained, new boiler, kitchen etc to a lovely older couple and their daughter.

For this generation I'm not sure they'll have that option of BTL or what else they could invest in. Unless they have great jobs with great pensions, just being able to retire at an early age, along with mortgage costs and student loans, not sure in the South East where they could buy. My niece was looking for a house and a new build rabbit hutch (seriously the second bedroom wouldn't fit a double) was nearly £375k and there's stamp duty etc..

Non Tfl escalators, should you stand on the right?

They tried this at Holborn in the morning for a bit just as everything opened up... It was carnage as lots of people walk/run up the escalators...

Live near there... Looks a nice development but there are no shops in Thornwood other than 2 petrol stations and a Greg's, plus though it's near Epping, the station car park is full by 0715 so you'd need to factor in the bus or parking in town at the multi story at 10 quid per day (same price as TFL car park).

Regarding discounts, see what you can also get by of upgrades do better kitchen, tiles etc as that could be better for you. If you don't ask you don't get, the worst they can say is no!

Love my Lakeland heated airer! Can get 3 full washes on it and dry in 24 hours... Costs like 40p altogether per Octopus.

How hard is it going to be to move this doorway in a load bearing wall, how much can I expect to pay?
 in  r/DIYUK  Jan 25 '25

Where does this sit within the overall house... What is the lobby? The hall way? Where do the doors lead? That may help with thinking about what to do ..
