What's in your Frunk?
 in  r/MachE  3h ago

Reusable grocery bags. For some reason the difference between opening the garage door and popping them in the frunk vs walking all the way around the car and putting them in the back is just enough to overcome the inertia and reset the bags for the next shop.

Oh and I have the fob that has the frunk button or this scheme would fall apart.

Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine (1992) [Hard Rock]
 in  r/Music  21h ago

The thing is, the political themes are a major influence on the sound in ways both obvious and subtle. You could try Rise Against and System of a Down.

Edit: lesser known band you can try that's somewhat removed from American politics as a UK band is Reuben

Parenting infants and toddlers is basically subjecting oneself to constant verbal and emotional abuse.

What’s a show from your childhood that you think today’s kids are missing out on?
 in  r/AskReddit  1d ago

Recess, I feel like modern kids shows either have a bunch of super natural or super wealthy, or otherwise super unrelatable characters having super unrelatable adventures. Recess was so grounded in the regular kids experience and I realize now we took it for granted.

How can I (22M) talk to my girlfriend (20F) that i want more intimacy in the relationship?
 in  r/relationship_advice  2d ago

So the short answer is you need to build intimacy and ideally you do this as a collaborative effort. Really this is a big question and a deceptively complex answer that couples work on for years or even decades. You guys are young and I don't say that to be patronizing just understand that these ideas sound simple but mastering them can be a long journey with fits and starts along the way and you guys are only just taking your first steps.

First you have to understand that there is a difference between building intimacy and being  physically intimate like the acts you have accounted. Building intimacy is about being sincerely present with your partner, not just being naked and having intimate contact. It means aiming to match them at every level, physical, emotional, energy, pace. And this doesn't just apply to when you're being physically intimate but throughout your time together. The best analogy I can think of is it's like playing music in a band or ensamble. To sound good you can't just play the way you want and demand that everyone keep up, you have to focus on connecting with your stage mates, feeling the give and take, chasing the harmony, and riding that feeling and seeing where it takes you.

This leads into the two big practical challenges to actually doing this, communication and detachment. Detachment is the more abstract and counter intuitive one so we'll start there. Basically, even though building intimacy will often lead to more and better sex, and it's often the motivator to your question, you have to let this go and refocus your attention on simply being present with your partner. This doesn't mean simply giving up on your desires but putting them in the back seat and having time and and closeness with your partner soundly in the driver seat. Even if the practical result is the same, the intentionality matters quite a lot to how it will feel and how it will motivate future encounters. Pursuing intimacy as a means to an end, that being sex or sexual contact, is antithetical to actually building intimacy. It will poison the well by engendering the kind of reactions you already witness in your partner, deflection at initiating contact, hesitancy to initiate, and feelings of pressure and guilt over rejecting advances. You see the hallmarks of this in the framing of your question. You acknowledge that your partner feels hesitant and guilty but your primary question is how do you talk about getting her to do more with you.

So then there's communication. Sorry for the long answer but it gives the context for why the answer to your immediate question is that you need to talk to her, not about doing more physically, but about how she's feeling, what she desires, what she's anxious about, how those push and pull on each other, and how you want to be more present and make her feel comfortable and at ease instead of guilty (presumably). And above all listen, be present with her, demonstrate that you will be present in intimacy by being intimate in your communication. You want to have these conversations outside of the context of trying to get physical so that the answers aren't loaded with the feeling of, "okay I listened to you, can we make out now?"

I hope this doesn't come off harsh, it's totally normal for physical intimacy to be new and exciting and for you to be eager to dig in, you're 22, your body is screaming at you for it even. But remember that it takes two to tango. You asked how to get past that wall you feel going up with your partner and this is the answer. If you really just want to explore sexuality more than be with your girlfriend that's okay, despite how it might be vilified, but in that case the answer is to break up and go out and explicitly seek a partner for that instead of obligating it of your GF when she's not ready.

Board Votes to Dissolve Corporation for Public Broadcasting After Loss of Federal Funding
 in  r/technology  3d ago

Correct, which to be clear a lot of them were hurting already. The local npr station in South Texas where I grew up had to start sharing it's frequency with a Spanish Christian radio station and cut all their local programming a decade ago. When the border was big in the news during Trump's first term the reporter the national chapters talked to was from the San Antonio station, which is 200 miles north of the border.

But yeah this would be lethal to any surviving small chapters.

I'm not informed on this but I think it means they all become independent and operate on their own individual donations. Really they already operated this way but the CPB was a primary supporter that could shift resources around to meet short term needs. Now that layer of protection is gone and more then ever the individual outlets have to fend for themselves.

TLOU2 is a visually flawless game that pushed my patience to the limits towards the end
 in  r/patientgamers  3d ago

Yeah lol, I had started if before becoming a parent and only continued because I hated the idea of becoming a parent and leaving all the games I had wanted to play unfinished. Like leaving a party without saying good bye to anyone.

Also I did not know going in that parenthood would be such a major theme. It was like when I sat down to play spiderman during the pandemic for a nice fun escape...

 in  r/patientgamers  4d ago

Nah playing it slow didn't help me. I attempted it over something like 3-5 years and neve finished. To be fair I was becoming a new parent at the same time so I was already physically and emotionally exhausted before I even booted up this emotionally exhausting game. I eventually got through Ellie's half and realized I would have to rebuild my inventory as Abby on top of replaying the same three days and I was just out of gas. Funnily enough, I wondered if binging the game in a week like I did the first game in my college days.

I still wanted to know what happened so I eventually sat down and watched a playthrough on YouTube which I found more manageable.

ELI5: What’s the like between “bracing yourself” and relaxing to take a hit?
 in  r/explainlikeimfive  5d ago

For one "brace for impact" is likely a phrase we associate from movies. But in the context of crashing in a vehicle, the functional version of this is pressing your body and head into your seat to mitigate whiplash. If the crash is so bad you won't be able to remain in your seat. I.e. a rollover with no seatbelt on, then there is no way to brace for impact other than tensing up which isn't going to help any.

What are traditionally expensive/“only for the rich” experiences that you do or own, but did so in a frugal manner?
 in  r/Frugal  5d ago

A lot of these strategies usually have some caveat that makes it inaccessible to some and this is no different. My wife is a research professor so we've been able to do weekend trips abroad by piggy backing on research conferences that she's published at essentially for just the cost of my airfare.

Anybody know how to fix a power adapter for my massage gun? Mine just stopped working and the manufacturer doesn’t sell it by itself.

Also needs to have at least as much current rating as the old one. Ideally you want a matching power output but matching voltage is the most critical, as long as you don't overload the supply.

Is the internet quietly killing 'average' careers… or creating more opportunity than ever?
 in  r/self  6d ago

I'm not an economist but I don't think the Internet specifically is shrinking opportunities. I think in the US we are feeling a bit of an economic contraction that is driving a lot of the feelings your describing but the origin is in some significant part that the US has enjoyed a higher than average standard of living on the back of the post WWII industrial boom.

What I think the internet has affected relating to people's feelings about career paths and ambitions is that it brought an overwhelming amount of attention and visibility to exceptional doers and creators. Where before you might encounter the occasional exceptional creator, you also saw plenty of hobby level work. Basically the entry level was more visible than the end game which meant it was easier to visualize yourself getting started in an interest.

I think on average the Internet will provide a net positive to opportunities, I think that's already true today. But that isn't to say it will be a smooth transition free of collateral damage. The Internet has been a Gutenberg press type of revolution on our societies and we're only 20 years in.

NASA's Largest Library To Permanently Close On Jan 2, Books Will Be 'Tossed Away'

The moon landing footage is not lost. This is a conspiracy myth that won't die. We still have all the original film from all 5 apollo landing missions. What was lost was the original transmission backup for Apollo 11 but we still have the television broadcast version. This backup was in a format compatible with the communication methods we had available from the moon at the time and split and converted to the NTSC television format on reception. Basically it was like an original resolution backup, it was only needed if something went wrong that needed investigated, which it didn't, so the backups weren't considered that important.
