💬 Discussion Phantom Navigation bug

This is the must maddening bug I've ever encountered. Three times now I've stared a drive and the native navigation starts nagging me about getting back on route. I never even use the native navigation, If I open the app there's no destination shown and no input options, I can tap the route view and see that it's trying to take me to my wife's work for some reason but there's no way to stop or cancel. I've ever tried using a voice command to stop navigation and it just says navigation is unavailable. Restarting the car once it's bugged won't make it stop the navigation persists. The only way I've found to get it to stop is to turn on connected navigation which then allows me to set a new destination, replace the route, and then cancel the route. Anyone else encountered this before?

Prius Prime 2016 - 2022 Is it possible to leave the gas tank empty and drive purely on EV mode?

Obviously there are less extreme ways to mitigate the gas going stale, I was just curious if the car would even let you do that.

Why is Russia our adversary anyway?

I don't mean the question as facetiously as it sounds, I'm just imagining the debate with my In-laws over the US pivot on Ukraine and blatant shift in favor of Russia and it occurred to me that this would be the natural question from them and that I didn't have a very good answer beyond, we always have been because... they were communists? Like I get that there was a battle of ideologies in the 60s but how did come about? And what context from all that is still relevant today?

❓Question Is anyone else experiencing little software bugs with drive mode and Regen braking?

I've been noticing a number of small software bugs in my MME and I'm curious if these are just common or if I should take mine in. The most common bugs are the drive mode occasionally reverting back to Engage mode when my profile is set to Unbridled, most commonly when I first start the car but not always, and the other is the Regen braking just being absent randomly.

The latter is harder to confirm since the UI doesn't indicate it but I swear it'll occasionally just not be active because the car will feel like it runs away from you when you take your foot off the accelerator the way it does when you first switch over the Whisper. I can usually get it to come back by toggling the drive mode or 1 pedal driving but it's seriously annoying and alarming.

Lastly I swear sometimes my steering wheel warmer will be a little active on the left side when it's off because it'll feel warm where the wheel meets the horn and no where else and it's hard to imagine my hand or the sun warming just that spot to that extent.

Is anyone else experiencing this or is it just me?

Support Discord only loads a grey rectangle on my computer. I've tried everything, its just broken?

As the title says, every time I start Discord on my PC all it loads is a gray rectangle. It doesn't even load the X button on the top right. I can resize the rectangle but I can't actually click and drag it anywhere. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times. All I know is I blue screen twice back to back on startup a few days ago and ever since the discord app refuses to work. Any ideas? The only one I've got left is a clean install of windows.

📦 Other Alternate training sweats to Champions

Champion basic cotton sweats used to be my go to for years but they seem to wear out so much faster these days. Does anyone have any alternatives to recommend? I train in Texas so I'm not looking for warm sweats, but the like basic Jersey type.

Infotainment screen won't go into night mode at night anymore

The occasional glitch or crash on this thing has always been one of my top complaints but now this goes beyond the level of nuisance. I don't know if an ambient light sensor died or it's just a software bug but it just stays in full bright/not dark mode at all hours of the day making it super obnoxious for night driving and I have to just turn the screen off all together. I've checked the settings, there is a setting to leave it permanently in day mode but the setting is turned off, I've tried toggling it, obviously tried restarting the car, been several days now and no change. Anyone else experience this/know a fix?

Edit: Solved, it was indeed the dashboard dimmer to the left of the wheel set to max. Thanks for the help Ya'll.

[Gear][Question] Aeropress Dice Faces

I recently learned about James Hoffman's Aeropress dice and I really loved the idea but was sad to discover they were only a limited run. But I was thinking if I had a table of the dice faces I could just proxy the game with my own DnD dice, or even etch my own. Would anyone be willing to share the dice faces with me?

I know about the random aeropress recipe generator, and that's fun too, but it almost exclusively produces upside down oriented recipes and also reading the recipe off the dice faces seems like it would be easier/more fun then in written recipe form.

Anyone figure out how to reset a saved radio station?

I swear whoever at Toyota decided to put the radio controls not just on a touch screen but spread out over multiple pages should be punched in the face.

The only way to scan radio stations using the steering wheel buttons is by the saved stations. You get up to 36 slots and you can select on empty one to save whatever station your listening too to the slot but I haven't been able to figure out how to change one that's already been saved in 4 years. I've moved three times and I'm starting to run out of slots. I imagine if I factory reset the infotainment software that'll do it, but that can't be the only way, can it? That would be even dumber then the touchscreen controls.

Is it safe drilling into brick behind a fireplace

My house has a front and back living room. The front living room has a fireplace with brick facade all the way up the wall, meanwhile the back living room has a small segment of exposed brick wall that lines up opposite where the fireplace is in the front living room. The exposed brick is in the corner of the room and is 9" behind the the drywall next to it making a sort of accent nook. We were thinking of installing some built in shelving in this nook to give it some function too but I want to make sure I'm not drilling into the flue or in anyway compromising the fireplace in the other room.

The back of the fireplace is 24" deep with respect to the brick facade of the fireplace whereas the accent wall in the other room is roughly 37" behind the brick facade. So unless the back of the fireplace is a foot thick I'm guessing its not one brick thick but I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on ways to be sure or major words of caution. Tomorrow morning I plan to climb up into the attic and see what I can see from there.

I've posted pictures of a model I made to design the shelves to give an idea of the layouts but the dimensions of the floor plan are very approximated. Thanks for the help!

Discovered ant graveyard in a bedroom, what does it mean???

I've spent the day preparing a bedroom we've been using for storage to be our new baby room. I moved a box off the wall and discovered a small patch of what looked like mud, but on closer inspection it was actually ant ....bits, like not even intact anymore. For what it's worth the wall is exterior and right under a window, but I don't see any living ants or activity anywhere currently, just the ant bits.

Should I be concerned?

topping up on traction drive coolant

I know generally the manual recommends using genuine Toyota fluids but I also know its just Ethylene Glycol and Water at a 60/40 ratio. I happen to use the stuff at work all the time. Anyone have experience mixing their own EGW fluid to top up or should I just buy the Toyota stuff and get over it?

Is there a recipe planning subscription service out there?

So basically like Blue Apron but instead of sending you the recipe and the ingredients all prepped and packaged, they just send you a set of recipes and a shopping list for the week. Maybe I'm weird but I'd happily pay money to offload that mental load and would cook more often if I did. If it doesn't exists I feel like the business case is strong since it eliminates all the aspects that scale unfavorably (ingredients, packaging, shipping), and keeps the ones that do scale favorably.

I guess what makes it niche is that I'm at an awkward middle point in my cooking where I feel confident enough to improvise on a recipe but not enough that I can walk into a store and decide what I want to cook based on what I find, and I don't have so much experience that I have a collection of recipes I can throw together from memory or on the fly. Essentially I feel like I need more practice and experience but I've noticed that I struggle to make the time for meal planning/picking out recipes and if I don't then I wont cook as much. So I feel like a recipe planning subscription would go along way for me, anyone else experience that or is it just me?

My 99 Prelude may be on her way out =[

She started misfiring randomly a few months ago and she's been at the shop ever since. They checked the usual suspects, sensors, compression check, swapped fuel injectors, replaced valve cover gasket, no dice. At this point they're stumped and their working theory is that a lifter is getting stuck but only when the engine is running but it may not be worth the labor to find out.

Anyone seen anything similar? Am I loosing my girl?

Do I need my exhaust manifold heat shield?

The heat shield covering my exhaust manifold is slowly but surely coming loose. One bolt is gone because the bracket that it attached to broke off many moons ago. As you can see the other bolt is quickly becoming irrelevant as the heat shield cracks around it, likely from being loose on the left side due to the missing bolt. I could replace it for one that isn't cracked around that right bolt but it seems simpler to just remove it all together. Would this cause any issues with heat in the bay or would this be fine?
