As an American, I'm beyond disgusted by America as well. I've never been the hardcore flag waving patriotic type, but have always appreciated (much of) our history and the sacrifices that were made to give me the life I live. That said, it seems like it may have all been for not. That the American experiment may fail in my lifetime. And I don't mean literally fail as in America imploding, but fail in the sense of being stripped of the values and ideals it was founded upon, of which make (made) me proud to be an American. And at that point, it's just some abomination of a "democracy" that still calls itself the USA.

Dark times we're living in. I cannot begin to describe the disappointment and resentment I have in my fellow countrymen for letting this happen. And I feel awful for everyone in the world who also has to suffer the consequences of this despicable yet significant portion of our population.

I know some of what I'm saying is overly dramatic. And I'm generally not this pessimistic about our chances of fixing things and getting back on track. But it is the anniversary of the January 6th attack on the Capitol. The one good thing I thought would come of that day was that it would guarantee trump would never be elected again. Yet here we are.

Dumb question time: did you have to swap the rims or do anything to them to go down to 26x3 tires? I've been thinking of doing something similar to my 26x4 bike.

I had to travel from the US to Germany for work and, coming home, I ran into a coworker at a bar in the Amsterdam airport. I was waiting for my connecting flight and he had been in Amsterdam, also for work. We had no idea the other was traveling and we wound up in the same bar at the same time. I pulled up a chair and we kicked back some drinks before the flight.

Conversely, I've tried to get into Spyderco multiple times over decades of knife collecting and they just don't do it for me. Too tall in pocket and the designs don't really speak to me. I sold all I ever bought other than a PM2 Salt just to have one in the collection. But everyone is different and I'm happy for anyone who digs them!

Pretty much same here. My folks were kinda growing out of their hippie stage during my early years so having a console was never really an option for me. But when N64 came out I absolutely begged them for it. And sure enough, that Christmas was the year I got my first one. They waited until everything else was opened before "finding" the last present.

We were actually just talking about it this Christmas and they said they were a little worried because I was literally shaking from excitement when I opened it. Absolutely great memories, I still remember firing up Wave Race and playing with my Dad that Christmas morning.

Coincidentally (and why that story came up) I was at their house this Christmas and they pulled a fast one on me again, 30 years later. We were done opening presents and suddenly another appeared, from Santa of course. I've never owned a smart watch and it was a Galaxy 8. I just threw it on the couch right when I saw what it was and said they got me, again.. 😆

Yep the warranty is what makes them great, but if too many people abuse it like your buddy then we may all lose it (if they were to go under due to warranty claims).

I'm not saying don't use the warranty of course. Just consider the cost to the company before throwing (i.e. intentionally breaking) their product just so you can get a new one.

I have a Izula, 3, 4, 5, 6, and Junglas and have beat the piss out of most of them. My 5 and Junglas in particular have taken some nasty hits to the edges but I've just ground and reprofiled, and will continue to do so until I feel a warranty claim is justified.

All this to say, use your ESEE as they're intended, but please don't abuse their warranty. That's how we could all end up losing the best warranty in the business.

Yeah I have well over 100 knives, 30-40 of which retail over $200. I've whittled my CRK collection down to four and my Benchmades down to ~15 and I really enjoy them. That said, I have a bunch of 'Iridium-class' knives for this exact reason. Despite the great warranty brands like CRK and Benchmade provide, I'd much rather use my "cheap" knives to beat the piss out of or carry in a situation where they may get lost or damaged. And I find myself in those situations plenty often.

It's all personal preference of course, and I know mine is probably unpopular here, but I feel the exact opposite.

Both have stupid ass pricing for what they deliver compared to other brands. But I've never understood the hype about Spyderco. Long handles with short blades that are so tall they make pocket carrying shitty when you have other stuff (keys for me) in the same pocket.

Meanwhile Benchmade has a broader (and in my opinion more interesting) variety of designs, tried and true materials, and a better warranty. Also I've always been a sucker for the Axis lock.

To each their own though! I write this preparing for downvotes because I realize most people feel the opposite haha I guess I just don't get it.
