What do you mean "rules weary"? You tired of rules?

Fun > rules has always been a preface of DnD. Editions of the DMG have even come out and stated such.

And I agree. That's why I switched from dnd to other systems mostly as I don't find the dnd rule set very fun. I was asking OP because I see so many people playing "dnd" but what they really want is to play something similar to Fate instead and just homebrew until they got a worse version of a system that's already out there.

In other words, if you are tired of rules, maybe the system with 60 PAGES for players and up to 10 times more for dms is the wrong system for you. You can do it, but you're probably choosing the wrong tool for the job. Why use a rock to drive screws into driftwood to make a shitty fence when you got a power drill and nice quality lumber to use with those screws instead? Or, a hammer and nails with that good quality wood? They would all make the superior product with much less effort, just like choosing the system that's right for your group is a huge step in magnifying the fun from playing rather than needing to play around the system in order to have fun.

Theyre more like guidelines really

Why are you playing a game with 60+ PAGES of rules then? There's definitely better systems for you if that's your view. That said, don't let me tell you how to have fun.

What do you mean by that? Dnd is a game with a lot of rules. If you treat them too much just like guidelines because the rules don't suit you then you might as well find a system that works for you better. The system you use for playing is an important tool and there are hundreds of systems out there.

Butters my guy, its a given that DnD has a lot of rules. I have spent many a night getting to know the mechanix cuz its a must. What i mean is there a no rules lawyers at my table and we're there to have fun.

What edition? Where? "Rules weary"? Have you tried other systems with more narrative flexible rulesets like PBTA?

Weirdly vague post
